Playschool presenter Alister Smart dies aged 90

Australian actor and beloved Play School presenter Alister Smart has died aged 90 at his home in East Gippsland, Victoria.
Mr Smart died on September 9, but the news of his death has only recently become public.
Born in Adelaide on November 30, 1935, and raised in part around Nowra, Mr Smart left school and joined his family's piano restoration business.
He soon developed an interest in pianos which prompted him to study at Sydney's Conservatorium of Music.

Pioneering Australian presenter and director Alister Smart, an original Play School presenter, recently passed away, aged 90.
He died on September 9th having resided in East Gippsland, Victoria.
Smart started his career in theatre in the early 1950s, and also appeared in television productions in Australia and the UK from the 1950s until the mid-1990s.
He was best known for his role as an original presenter on Play School. He made his first appearance in the debut episode in 1966, and continued in this role for 27 years until he retired in 1993. During his tenure, he co-hosted alongside Lorraine Bayly, Anne Haddy, Donald Mcdonald, Kerry Francis, Don Spencer, Benita Collings, John Hamblin, Noni Hazlehurst, John Waters, Philip Quast and during the first year, Diane Dorgan.
