Tyler Herro News: Scores 34 points in loss

Herro recorded 34 points (12-24 FG, 5-10 FG, 5-7 FT), five rebounds, four assists and a steal across 32 minutes in Friday's 132-125 loss to the Bulls.

Herro posted his best scoring mark of the season thus far, and he was the only Milwaukee player to score more than 20 points in this seven-point defeat. It's only been two games, but Herro looks comfortable operating as the Bucks' No. 1 option on offense. Through two contests, he has 58 points, seven rebounds and 13 assists combined while shooting 9-for-21 from three-point range.

Bucks news: Watch Tyler Herro's flashy 1st bucket in Milwaukee

Tyler Herro delighted the hometown crowd with his first bucket at the FiServ Forum during a matinee against Chicago.

Coach Taylor Jenkins' Milwaukee Bucks squared off with Tiago Splitter's Chicago Bulls at the Fiserv Forum as Josh Giddey's pregame injury status was revealed. Bucks guard Tyler Herro, who has a fan in Ryan Hollins, went right at Giddey and the Bulls, racking up nine points in nine minutes as he scored on a deft backdoor cut that was assisted by center Myles Turner.

Herro extended for a picture-perfect lefty layup, his first bucket in Milwaukee, as the Bucks opened a big lead on their Central Division rivals and visitors from the Windy City.

Taipans import goes from ‘filthy game’ to match-winner in stunning blitz

The Cairns Taipans have ended a two-match NBL losing streak, pulling off a brilliant comeback from nine points down in the final quarter against Melbourne United.

Cairns finished 107-95 winners at John Cain Arena in Melbourne which means United only has one win from four matches.

Taipans star Jaylon Brown was the inspiration behind a final quarter surge, scoring 14 points to make it 20 for the match after a poor start.

“I’m just trying to find my rhythm, in the first half I was missing more (shots) and I just thought I’ve got to stay confident and shoot my shots,” he said on Nine’s coverage.

After falling behind by 12 points in the third quarter at Melbourne's John Cain Arena on Saturday night, Cairns swamped United 35-14 in the fourth term.

Keanu Pinder (27 points), Reyne Smith (21), Jack McVeigh (20) and Jaylon Brown (20) all posted 20-plus for the Taipans, who climbed off the foot of the ladder with one of the franchise's finest victories.

United vs Taipans Prediction & Tips: NBL27 Round 3

Second up in the Saturday double-header for NBL27 Round 3 we have Melbourne United playing host to the Cairns Taipans. After suffering a tough loss on the road to begin the round, this stacked United roster will be desperate to bounce back with a big win in this one.

Check out our United vs Taipans preview below and head to our NBL tips page for tips for every match this season!

Melbourne United return to John Cain Arena on Saturday night seeking an immediate response after a chaotic 84-82 road loss to the Tasmania JackJumpers on Thursday. Jacob Chance's squad was dragged into an absolute war of attrition in Hobart, with the whistle dominating a stop-start contest that featured a combined 72 free throws and six players fouling out. Despite the frustrating result, United still found reliable offensive production from their frontcourt, as Josh Oduro dominated with 22 points and eight rebounds, while veteran Joe Ingles provided a steady hand with 18 points and five assists. Backing up just 48 hours after such a gruelling, physical battle will undoubtedly test their legs, but returning to their home floor provides a massive boost.

Elijah Pepper was cool in the clutch as the Perth Wildcats moved up to second position on the NBL ladder with a 92-88 victory over South East Melbourne Phoenix.

Pepper top-scored with 25 points at Perth's RAC Arena on Friday night, while Kristian Doolittle and Anthony Dell'Orso added 22 each.

With the Wildcats up by two points in the dying stages, and the Phoenix forced to play the foul game, Pepper had ice in his veins, swishing four-straight free throws inside the last 7.6 seconds.

NBL27 Round 3 Pink Game Preview | Wildcats vs Phoenix

The Round 3 clash comes just two weeks after both sides opened their NBL27 campaigns against each other at RAC Arena, where South East Melbourne claimed an 86-76 victory.

Perth has bounced back with consecutive wins over the Adelaide 36ers and New Zealand Breakers, while SEM Phoenix return to Perth following back-to-back losses to the Tasmania JackJumpers and Melbourne United.

The Wildcats will now have another opportunity against a Phoenix team that caused problems with its pressure and ability to turn mistakes into quick points in the season opener.

That first encounter was closely contested for much of the night. Kristian Doolittle led Perth with 19 points, Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. added 16 and Dylan Windler finished with 14, before South East Melbourne broke the game open late.

Match preview: Sixers hunting Hawks in Illawarra home opener

The Adelaide 36ers are back on the road, aiming to make it consecutive wins when they face Illawarra on Friday night.

But it won’t be an easy trip. The Hawks have come under immense pressure after being winless in their opening three games.

The Sixers have an impressive record against the Hawks, having won eight of their last nine against the NBL25 Champions, though they lost in their most recent in-season meeting after eight straight wins.

On that occasion, the Hawks, playing at home in Wollongong, came from nine points down at the final change to win by one point 100-99, with Sixer Bryce Cotton missing an open three-pointer, and Flynn Cameron unable to finish a put back after an offensive rebound.

    Hawks vs 36ers Prediction & Tips: NBL27 Round 3

We have a Friday night double-header to look forward to in Round 3 of the NBL27 season, with the first matchup seeing the Illawarra Hawks battle the Adelaide 36ers. The Hawks have had a disastrous start to the season and it doesn’t get any easier with superstar Bryce Cotton coming to town.

Check out our Hawks vs 36ers preview below and head to our NBL tips page for tips for every match this season!

The Illawarra Hawks return to the WIN Entertainment Centre on Friday night in desperate need of a circuit breaker. Sitting at 0-3 after a disastrous opening stretch, Justin Tatum's squad is leaking points at an alarming rate. Following losses to New Zealand and Brisbane, the Hawks were utterly dismantled 121-100 by the Sydney Kings on Sunday. While Kelan Martin and Sam Froling battled hard to drop 21 points each against the Kings, and Kyle Adnam provided a 17-point spark off the bench, the defensive structures around them are completely falling apart. Compounding their on-court woes is a growing casualty ward, with Mason Peatling awaiting scans on a foot injury and Todd Blanchfield sidelined indefinitely with a broken finger, leaving a roster that already cut import Darius Days looking incredibly thin.

Burnie-born point guard Taran Armstrong's clutch pull-up jumper with 5.5 seconds remaining has delivered the Tasmania JackJumpers a pulsating 84-82 NBL win over Melbourne United.

After Sam Waardenburg's three-pointer with 14.2 seconds left levelled the scores at 82-82 at Hobart's MyState Bank Arena on Thursday night, the JackJumpers called a time-out before point guard Armstrong drilled the tiebreaker.

United had one last chance to pinch victory, but Malith Machar's long shot rimmed out.

JackJumpers vs United Prediction & Tips: NBL27 Round 3

Round 3 of the NBL27 season continues on Thursday night with a standalone matchup that pits the Tasmania JackJumpers against Melbourne United. The JackJumpers have been hit with a number of injuries to start their campaign and will have to be at their very best to match it with United’s star-studded roster.

Check out our JackJumpers vs United preview below and head to our NBL tips page for tips for every match this season!

The Tasmania JackJumpers return to MyState Bank Arena on Thursday night desperate to bounce back from a highly frustrating 93-87 loss to the Cairns Taipans. Dropping a game to a Cairns squad that many pundits categorise as the weakest roster in the league is a massive early-season wake-up call for Scott Roth's men. Taran Armstrong was a genuine bright spot in the defeat, putting up 20 points, seven assists, and six rebounds, while big man Will Magnay battled hard inside for 17 points and seven boards. Despite solid production from Armstrong and import David Johnson, who added 18 points and seven rebounds of his own, the JackJumpers struggled to string together consistent stops when it mattered. Leaking points to a struggling opponent is a major concern, and they now face a monumental step up in class.

Oduro, Chance, excited for first road trip

Prior to United’s first double-header of the Hungry Jack’s NBL27 season, Head Coach Jacob Chance and big-man Josh Oduro spoke on their approach to the games, specifically Thursday’s matchup against the Tasmania JackJumpers.

Chance, coming off his first win as Head Coach, is excited to leverage that momentum into a road win in Hobart.

“It's our first time jumping on a plane together and hanging out and going to dinner. Hobart's a beautiful place to visit,” Chance said.

“We're all locked in on Tassie right now on Thursday night and that's going to present its own challenges with how they play and how good they are… it'll be a good game for us.

Bird flu mass mortality points to 'significant losses' for wildlife

Testing has confirmed the first mass mortality from H5 bird flu in Australian wildlife on an island off South Australia's south-east coast.

Agriculture Minister Julie Collins says Australians can expect to see greater disease spread, with larger numbers of wildlife impacted.

The first mass mortality of Australian wildlife from the deadly H5 bird flu has been confirmed in greater crested terns found on an island off South Australia's south-east coast.

It follows testing of samples from dead and sick birds detected by aerial surveillance on an island called Baudin Rocks, about 5 kilometres south of Cape Jaffa in South Australia, on Friday.

‘Just the beginning’: First mass deaths from H5N1 bird flu confirmed

Bird flu has become established on the Australian mainland, with the federal government confirming that dozens of greater crested terns at Boudin Rocks off Cape Jaffa in South Australia have tested positive for the H5NI, which has killed more than 300 million animals around the world.

A seagull collected in Robe, South Australia, has also tested positive to the disease.

“Sadly, we do know that once the H5 bird flu is spreading in wildlife, and the natural environment, it is not possible to avoid significant losses – which is what we are starting to see now,” said Agriculture Minister Julie Collins during a press conference on Monday, adding authorities would continue to monitor the spread of the virus through Australian wildlife.

For 60 years, Brian Ahmed has farmed the same stretch of land in Melbourne's east. These days, getting past the farm's gate isn't easy — his birds need all the protection they can get.

"At the moment, because of all the concerns with Avian influenza … I'd say all farms now have increased their biosecurity levels," he told SBS News.

"The less people we have on our farms, the less chance of anything coming on.

"Our number one priority is to protect our birds, and the best way we can do that is to make sure they don't mix with anyone that they don't need to."
