Adrian Portelli takes on Coles, Woolworths with 10 per cent price-beat

Adrian Portelli has launched his first LMCT+ supermarket at Deer Park, challenging Coles and Woolworths with a Bunnings-style 10 per cent price-beat offer.

Adrian Portelli has opened his first supermarket in Melbourne and challenged Coles and Woolworths with a Bunnings-style 10 per cent price-beat pledge.

The billionaire unveiled the new policy after the opening of his LMCT+ supermarket at Deer Park, in Melbourne’s west, on Tuesday.

Under the offer, shoppers who find an identical product cheaper at Coles or Woolworths can ask LMCT+ to beat the rival’s regular shelf price by 10 per cent.

The competing product must be in stock, available in store and not on promotion.

Adrian Portelli opens first discount supermarket he says will take on Coles and Woolworths. But there’s a catch

Controversial Melbourne entrepreneur Adrian Portelli has officially entered Australia’s retail grocery sector, opening his first supermarket in Deer Park, in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

The supermarket marks the first physical store in a planned discount grocery rollout under Portelli’s LMCT+ brand. Originally an IGA store, the businessman confirmed he had acquired the site in June 2026, having first teased his grocery store concept in May.

Similar to Costco, customers need to become a member of Portelli’s LMCT+ brand to access the savings. Those who already hold a general LMTC+ membership from Portelli’s trade promotions and rewards clubs can use their existing memberships to shop there, without needing a separate subscription.

Super-rich billionaires like Adrian Portelli aren’t the only ones racing to stash cash offshore after new federal laws – with everyday Aussie mums and dads fleeing to desert tax havens too.

A multi-billion surge in Australian property profits since John Howard introduced the world’s most generous landlord tax benefits has created a new class of property richlisters, placing neighbourhood landlords on the same playing field as offshore billionaires.

A full-blown exodus is underway headed for the Middle East, as internationally renowned global developers touch down in Australia this week to boost it along – with Australians already owning 5.7 per cent of the entire Dubai property market, the same as oil-rich neighbours like Saudi Arabia.

Dubai built its boom on expats. Now war has the city on edge

Add articles to your saved list and come back to them anytime.

As missiles streaked across the sky above the United Arab Emirates last weekend, the first images seen by the outside world largely came from hotel balconies and luxury apartments.

The city’s booming influencer community and tourists filmed air defence systems light up the night’s sky as they barricaded themselves inside hotel rooms, many pleading for help.

But in the days since, a counter narrative has emerged from the those who call the United Arab Emirates home.

Western expats have flooded social media with images of heaving cafes, crowded malls and busy beach clubs, pushing back against what they say is a distorted picture of life inside the Gulf’s expat hubs.
