Tom Cruise punched Jack Nicholson on set of most famous film, co-star claims

Actor Kevin Pollak has revealed Tom Cruise landed a blow on Jack Nicholson while filming their most tense – and iconic – scene for A Few Good Men, but it’s not what it sounds like.

Recalling his time on the set of the 1992 legal drama on Steve Kmetko’s Still Here Hollywood podcast, Pollak said watching his A-list co-stars act out the famous “You can’t handle the truth!” courtroom scene was incredibly charged.

“When Tom’s character, Kaffee, comes in for the kill – ‘I want the truth’ – well, while he’s coming in and the camera is next to Jack’s face, shooting Jack’s POV of Tom and Jack has to put his face as close as he can to [the] lens,” Pollak said.

The Truth Behind Tom Cruise Punching Jack Nicholson: How a Climactic Showdown on the Set of A Few Good Men Dissolved Into Unscripted Chaos

Tom Cruise did strike Jack Nicholson during the production of A Few Good Men, but the confrontation ended in mutual laughter rather than hostility after Nicholson spent an entire dramatic take pulling grotesque clown faces just out of frame. The physical blow was a sharp, playful punch to the shoulder, delivered the moment director Rob Reiner called cut on one of cinema’s most legendary legal confrontations.

The candid backstage revelation surfaced through co-star Kevin Pollak during his appearance on the Still Here Hollywood podcast. Pollak, who portrayed defence lawyer Lt. Sam Weinberg in the 1992 military drama, watched the entire encounter unfold from mere feet away.

Duke coach Jon Scheyer details the chaotic aftermath during a court storm after a loss to North Carolina. (0:28)

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Duke coach Jon Scheyer said he had staff members "that got punched in the face" as North Carolina fans stormed the court to celebrate a late winning shot in the famed rivalry Saturday night, prompting UNC athletic director Bubba Cunningham to publicly apologize.

The 14th-ranked Tar Heels stunned the fourth-ranked Blue Devils 71-68 on Seth Trimble's 3-pointer with 0.4 left, a shot that originally appeared to come as time expired and had jubilant fans rush the court in a chaotic celebration. Officials reviewed the play and determined time was left, so fans had to be cleared for Duke to get one final play before storming the court again when the clock officially hit zero.

UNC's Caleb Wilson takes a page from Michael Jordan in stellar freshman season: 'It became personal'

Wilson is fueled by matchups against fellow Class of 2025 standouts, slights in recruiting, USA Basketball

North Carolina freshman forward Caleb Wilson has a list of about 30 names, including college freshmen he believes got the nod over him in high school and coaches who slighted him in recruiting or with USA Basketball.

It’s likely that Duke’s men’s basketball coach Jon Scheyer and heralded freshman twins, Cameron and Cayden Boozer, respectfully, are on that list.

Wilson chose North Carolina after considering scholarship offers from Kentucky and Ohio State. As for storied Duke, Wilson said that during his recruitment they “stopped talking to me.”
