Issued at 1:52 pm Monday, 12 October 2026.

Severe storms with damaging winds and large hail have developed
    over the southern NT.

Weather Situation: A surface trough coincides with a warm and
unstable airmass in southern parts of the Territory, which has
resulted in the development of severe thunderstorms. Severe storms
are moving to the east and southeast and are likely to persist
    throughout the afternoon.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and
large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours.
Locations which may be affected include Hermannsburg, Santa Teresa
    and Titjikala.

The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people
    should:
    * secure loose outside objects
    * ensure pets and animals are safe
    * avoid remaining in the open when storms threaten
    * pull over if it is raining heavily and you cannot see, park with
your hazard lights on until the rain clears
    * avoid driving into water of unknown depth and current

Severe thunderstorms about the southeast Tanami.

Weather Situation: Northerly winds bring an influx of moisture to
the central NT, which combined with instability to the east of a
weak surface trough will promote the development of isolated severe
    thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the

    hours.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has made major changes to the rain radar on its new website.

The $96.5 million dollar revamp of the BOM website sparked a major backlash.

Further updates to weather data are planned for later this year.

Almost a year since the launch of its much-maligned new website, the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has made major upgrades to rain radar information.

The BOM faced a torrent of criticism over the new-look site, which was launched in October last year during wild weather.

BOM brings back familiar rain radar features after community feedback

The Bureau of Meteorology has rolled out another major rain radar update, bringing back familiar features including range rings alongside easier local radar access and sharper rainfall imagery.

Australians who have been missing some of the familiar features of the old Bureau of Meteorology rain radar will notice a few welcome changes, with a major new website update now live.

The Bureau has rolled out new radar locations, quick links, clickable radar icons and range rings, while also improving how rainfall appears on its weather maps.

The changes went live on September 16th and were developed in response to community feedback about the radar experience, bringing several elements of the new system closer to the familiar old radar view.

Observatory says Noul has intensified and is forecast to come within 100km of Hong Kong on Sunday morning

The Hong Kong Observatory will issue the No 8 typhoon signal at 10.10pm on Saturday as Typhoon Noul barrels towards the region, with more than 380 flights cancelled and winds associated with the storm causing a scaffolding collapse.

The forecaster said that Noul had intensified and was forecast to come within 100km (62 miles) of the city on Sunday morning, with rain and strong winds associated with the storm already affecting the city.

It said it would issue the No 8 signal at 10.10pm, while a “Pre-No 8 Special Announcement” would be sent out two hours beforehand.

China evacuates 20,000 people as Typhoon Noul nears

Authorities have evacuated more than 20,000 people and suspended rail services as Typhoon Noul approaches southern China, with flight cancellations announced in the financial hub of Hong Kong.

The typhoon is forecast to make landfall in the coastal area stretching from Hong Kong to Guangdong province between Saturday evening and Sunday morning, China's National Meteorological Center said.

The Chinese weather forecaster maintained an orange typhoon alert on Saturday, the second-highest level in its four-tier system.

Parts of Guangdong and neighbouring Hunan and Jiangxi provinces are set to receive heavy rainfall from Saturday to Monday, it said.

When the typhoon makes landfall, it is forecast to have maximum sustained winds of 126-151 kilometres per hour (78-94 miles per hour).

Rain showers delay the start of the first India-Afghanistan one-day cricket match

Rain has delayed the toss and the start of the first match of a three-match one-day international series between India and Afghanistan

DHARAMSHALA, India — Rain has delayed the toss and the start of the first match of a three-match one-day international series between India and Afghanistan on Saturday.

It is the first bilateral ODI cricket series between the countries. The teams have only met at World Cups and Asia Cups in the one-day format, with India winning three of the four matches and the other ending in a tie.

India comes into the match having lost three of its past five ODIs while Afghanistan has won four in a row. Last week, India completed an innings and 300-run win over Afghanistan in a one-off test inside three days.

Gurbaz hits ton but Afghanistan 194 all out in rain-hit India ODI

Dharamsala (India) (AFP) – Skipper Shubman Gill's unbeaten 84 and inspired bowling led India to an emphatic seven-wicket win over Afghanistan in a rain-reduced 25-overs-a-side ODI contest on Saturday.

Chasing 195 for victory, India needed on Gill's 66-ball knock to achieve the target with 13 balls to spare in Dharamsala and lead the three-match series 1-0.

The bi-lateral series is the first between the two nations in the 50-over format.

Afghanistan posted 194 all out despite opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz's 102 as the rest of the batting faltered after the match started four hours and 15 minutes late due to persistent rain.

Indian debutants Gurnoor Brar, a fast bowler, and Harsh Dubey, a left-arm-spinner, took three wickets each to bowl out Afghanistan in 24.5 overs after Gurbaz's ninth ODI century.

How to live stream Afghanistan vs India: One-Day International Cricket, TV channel

Afghanistan and India are set to meet on Saturday in the first of three scheduled one-day international cricket matches in June between the two countries.

Aizaz Alvi from the Michigan Warriors Cricket Club bowls to Anik Chowdhury of the Killers Cricket Club as umpire Kiran Nettem looks on during the Michigan Cricket Association 2025 T20 grand final at the Lasky Recreation Center in Detroit on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025.

These two nations met earlier this month in a one-off test, with India prevailing by an innings and 300 runs. Now, Afghanistan will look to get revenge in these ODIs.

India comes into this match on a fairly long win streak, having won five consecutive matches, with its last loss coming in World Cup play in February, when the team lost to South Africa in the Super 8 stage before going on to win the T20 World Cup against New Zealand.
