Cricket boundaries, Mexican waves and first-time fans: Why Eden Park fails the Warriors

In more than 15 years of covering the Warriors at Mt Smart Stadium, I’ve never seen a Mexican wave in the crowd during a match.

Yet just after halftime on Sunday at Eden Park, with the game against the Knights delicately poised at 6-6, many of the 48,000 fans in
attendance were on their feet to create the ripple effect. That was an instant – and telling difference – when assessing the experience last weekend, as the Warriors returned to the Auckland venue for the first time since 2014.

‘They really tried to take us out’: Ballarat mum targeted after exposing crime

When Ballarat mother Tanika started a Facebook page exposing crime in her hometown, she never expected her family to become a target.

A car in her yard was torched in a suspected arson attack, with gas canisters and makeshift wicks found at the scene.

Tanika and her partner Scott are fighting back against crime in Ballarat. A Current Affair

“They really tried to take us out,” Tanika told A Current Affair.

“I had kids screaming for approximately an hour after it. I’ve got a 10-year-old very concerned that the house is gonna go up in flames next.“

Despite the attack, Tanika and her partner Scott have no plans to stop running their community Facebook page, where they post CCTV of alleged offenders and help people track down allegedly stolen property.

What really drove Charles Manson's murders? New doc uncovers 'accurate story'

The 1969 murders of actress Sharon Tate and six others, orchestrated by the wild-eyed cult leader Charles Manson, marked the end of the flower child era of the '60s and ushered in a dark, disturbing reality in the Hollywood Hills.

The brutal killings carried out across two nights in the swanky Los Angeles neighborhoods fed media outlets’ appetites for seven months and have since become easy fodder for true crime retellings, from Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” to the newly released documentary “Conversations with a Killer: The Charles Manson Tapes,” directed by Joe Berlinger.

“It’s a horrifying story about a mastermind manipulating other people to do their evil bidding, where these people at the time of the crime, because of drug use and his influence, were remorseless,” Berlinger tells USA TODAY. “It was Hollywood's worst nightmare.”

Sharon Tate’s Last Words Were Tragically Maternal

The Summer of Love was two years in the past, but by August 1969, Sharon Tate was enjoying her sweetest season yet. Newly married to director Roman Polanski and just two weeks away from welcoming her first child, the rising Hollywood star was living out a love story of her own.

But instead of getting her happy ending, Tate's life was cut short in a crime that shocked the country to its core. On August 8, the actress's final act was defined not by her fame or even fear, but by pure maternal instinct.

Tate may have met her end in La La Land, but her journey started somewhere much less dreamy: Dallas. The eldest daughter of Army officer Paul James Tate and his wife Doris, Tate bounced around the globe growing up, living everywhere from Texas to Italy. But no matter where she went, Tate’s star power shined bright, earning her pageant titles, magazine covers, and early work as a movie extra. A move to Los Angeles at age 19 was the natural next step. She built momentum with television appearances on shows like The Beverly Hillbillies before landing her breakout film roles in 1967’s Valley of the Dolls and The Fearless Vampire Killers.

WASHINGTON — When Naomi Osaka won the 2018 BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, she felt nothing could top it.

'Time to really crack the whip' in Belgium – Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari have steadily closed the gap to Mercedes and Kimi Antonelli over the last few rounds.

Lewis Hamilton believes "it's time to really crack the whip", as the Ferrari driver looks to further close the gap to Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli at the Belgian Grand Prix.

The seven-time World Champion enters this weekend just 32 points behind Antonelli in the Drivers' standings, and seven adrift of George Russell in P2, while Mercedes only lead Ferrari by 78 points in the Teams' Championship.

Hamilton and Ferrari have been able to close the gap over the last few weekends, which have yielded four podiums from the last five races, including Hamilton's first Grand Prix victory for the Scuderia in Barcelona.

Lewis Hamilton: Ferrari driver says Mercedes duo Kimi Antonelli and George Russell 'should be a lot further ahead' in title battle

Lewis Hamilton is just 32 points behind championship leader Kimi Antonelli; the seven-time champion has stayed in striking distance despite Ferrari rarely matching Mercedes' pace; watch Friday's practice sessions for the Belgian GP at 12.30pm and 4pm, live on Sky Sports F1

Lewis Hamilton says Mercedes pair Kimi Antonelli and George Russell "should be a lot further ahead" of him than they are in the Drivers' Championship.

Antonelli leads Russell by 25 points at the top of the standings with Ferrari's Hamilton just seven points further back than his former team-mate.

Mercedes have clearly had the fastest car for much of the season but have been hit by reliability issues, which along with a few other factors have allowed Hamilton to remain in striking distance as the season approaches its halfway stage.

Lewis Hamilton's attention is not on the F1 title – just yet.

Lewis Hamilton has declared that he is "not thinking" about winning the F1 championship as he praised Ferrari's "tight-knit" approach.

Hamilton is currently third in the drivers' standings after the British GP, and is 32 points behind Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes, and seven behind the sister W17 of George Russell, with five podiums in nine races, including a win in Barcelona.

The seven-time champion has previously stated that he does not intend to retire until he wins a record-breaking eighth crown, breaking the record he jointly holds with Michael Schumacher.

'Really frightening, unbelievably quick': Witnesses describe fleeing deadly Spain wildfire

At least 12 people have died and 23 others are missing in a wildfire in southern Spain that emergency workers were battling to contain on Friday.

Officials said it appeared flames spread in the Los Gallardos area of Almería on Thursday afternoon after an electricity pole fell in woodland and sparked a blaze.

Speaking to local media, several eyewitnesses described the devastation as "like a bomb has fallen" on the municipality, while others recounted the fire's "unbelievably quick" spread.

Lucinda Curtois arrived in Spain with her partner Riyaz Cheytan and their teenage children for a holiday on Thursday.

They were in the pool in Bédar, close to where the fire took hold, at about 19:00 local time when neighbours warned them of an evacuation notice.

‘I had an incredible escape’: British woman tells of close encounter with Spanish wildfire

Jeanne Henny, 74, put her friend, a wheelchair and two dogs into the car and drove away, only to meet fire surging on to the road

The speed, scale and ferocity of the wildfire in and around the Bédar municipality of Almería took everyone by surprise.

Jeanne Henny, an English woman who has had a house in the tiny hamlet of Los Pinos for 33 years, initially took Thursday afternoon’s yellow skies as proof that a calima wind from the Sahara was showering desert dust on the area. Then she noticed the smoke and saw from a fire-alert app that a blaze had broken out.

There are few companies in Australia that seem to have done better out of COVID-19 than Bain Capital. Without the pandemic, Bain couldn't have plucked Virgin Australia out of administration in November 2020 for a mere $3.5 billion[[Only $730 million of this headline price was equity.]] and repaid itself in full within three years. Now six years and greater than $1 billion in distributed returns later, Covid has secured another windfall for the US private equity giant, this time in the form of $93 million in expired flight credits long forgotten by unlucky punters.

Warning to Aussies travelling to Bali amid rise in thefts

A travel guide has issued an urgent warning to Aussies looking to travel to Bali, amid reports of a rise in pickpocket crime plaguing the Indonesian holiday hotspot.

Samantha, an Australian travel guide and influencer who regularly shares travel information about Bali online, posted a video earlier this month warning about the worrying trend.

In the video, which has since been viewed more than 250,000 times, the content creator claims locals had noticed a rise in phone snatching and jewellery grabbing, typically by people passing on mopeds.

The influencer said it was causing tourists “a lot of problems” at the moment because it was happening in popular places like Canggu, Seminyak, Kuta and Uluwatu.

Bali Travel Guide for Australians: Everything You Need to Know Before You Go

Bali is Australia’s most visited international destination and has been for decades. For residents of Parramatta and Greater Sydney, direct flights from Sydney Kingsford Smith to Ngurah Rai International Airport take approximately six hours, making it one of the most accessible tropical escapes available. Yet despite its familiarity, Bali rewards preparation. First-timers and repeat visitors alike benefit from knowing what has changed, what to prioritise, and how to avoid the traps that catch out even experienced Australian travellers.

Australian passport holders can enter Indonesia visa-free for stays of up to 30 days. For stays up to 60 days, a Visa on Arrival is available at Ngurah Rai Airport for approximately AUD $50.

‘This has really thrown me’: The local footy team left hurt by Pride decision

A football club in Melbourne’s northern suburbs withdrew its support for a Pride celebration, leaving the club divided and the senior women’s team to hold its own unsanctioned event.

Coburg Districts Football Club, in the Essendon District Football League, refused to endorse the Pride game despite granting the women’s team permission for the celebration at the start of the season, according to three sources not prepared to be named because of the sensitive nature of the issue.

According to the sources, the reason given to the women’s team changed multiple times, before the club eventually told them that the Pride event on June 13 clashed with the official unveiling of the club’s redeveloped facilities at Cole Reserve Oval in Pascoe Vale.

Connor Storrie Is ‘Really Not Nervous’ for His Met Gala Debut

At this point, Studio 8H is basically Connor Storrie’s pied-à-terre. When the Heated Rivalry star landed in New York City on Saturday evening ahead of tonight’s Met Gala, he headed straight to the Saturday Night Live set, where he made a surprise appearance during the broadcast to introduce host/musical guest Olivia Rodrigo’s second song of the night, her new single “Begged.”

“We literally landed, dropped my bags off, instantly went to the studio,” says Storrie, speaking by phone from his hotel room on Monday. As it turns out, when he hosted SNL himself not too long ago, the actor became close with Keri Powers, the show’s longtime talent booker. So when he told Powers he’d be in town for the first Monday in May, she invited him to stop by the show beforehand. As soon as he arrived at 30 Rockefeller in Midtown, “she was like, ‘Do you want to possibly introduce Olivia’s new song?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, let’s do it.’”
