The Red Sox will begin the 2026 MLB regular season with a road game against the Reds.

How the Reds might line up on Opening Day vs. Boston lefty Garrett Crochet

Will the 2026 Reds fare better against southpaws than they did in 2025?

Garrett Crochet came to the Boston Red Sox from the Chicago White Sox in a move that surely made the southsiders groan and throw everything within reach as far as possible. All Crochet did once settling in Beantown was post a 6.3 bWAR season that featured and AL-best 205.1 IP and MLB-best 255 Ks, efforts that were buttressed by a sterling 2.59 ERA, 2.89 FIP, and minuscule 1.03 WHIP.

He finished 2nd in the American League Cy Young Award voting to Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers while making his second consecutive All Star Game and even inked a 6-year, $170 million extension to be Boston’s ace through 2031.

Queensland Reds have landed a major coaching coup, signing the Blues' Super Rugby Pacific-winning coach Vern Cotter as Les Kiss' replacement.

Cotter will join the Reds on a two-year deal for 2027 and 2028 Super seasons, the Kiwi following a well-worn trail of his countrymen jumping across the Tasman Sea.

The 63-year-old former Scotland and Fiji boss also tasted success with Clermont-Auvergne in France's Top 14 and will arrive at Ballymore with an impressing 25-year coaching resume.

Cotter said he was impressed with the Queensland Rugby Union's vision and excited by the level of rising talent he would have to work with in Brisbane.

Life for the Queensland Reds after Les Kiss has been confirmed, with the club drawing New Zealand coach Vern Cotter to Ballymore from 2027.

Cotter, now spearheading the Auckland Blues, has inked a two-year deal to succeed Kiss once the latter assume the Wallabies’ reins at the end of the looming Super Rugby Pacific campaign.

The premiership-winning mentor guided the Blues to the 2024 premiership and Clermont Auvergne to glory in the French Top 14, while he also holds international pedigree having led Scotland to the 2015 Rugby World Cup and Fiji from 2020 to 2023.

Blues coach leaving for Aussie Super Rugby side, ruling out ABs job

Vern Cotter’s third year as Blues head coach will be his last.

The Herald understands Cotter will finish up with the Blues at the end of the 2026 season and take over as the Queensland Reds head coach the following year.

Outgoing Reds head coach Les Kiss is set to
assume the Wallabies head coaching post from Joe Schmidt in July.

Cotter committing to the Reds rules him out of the race to replace Scott Robertson as All Blacks head coach, stripping another option from the contenders and potential coaching teams.

Schmidt has also ruled himself out of contention for the All Blacks while highly regarded assistant Tony Brown is committed to the Springboks through to the 2027 World Cup. Wayne Smith is also departing New Zealand rugby.

Tsiounis: “The mindset is about embracing the opportunity ahead”

Adelaide United Head Coach Theo Tsiounis says the Reds are focused on clarity, intensity, and connection as they prepare to face Perth Glory in Ninja A-League Round 8 on Sunday night.

After a disrupted fortnight marked by illness and a postponed fixture, Tsiounis believes the playing group is trending in the right direction. Several players have returned to training and the squad is embracing the challenge of an away trip to Western Australia as an opportunity to continue building on its identity and processes.

Tsiounis on the health of the squad and influenza update…“The health of our playing group has been the priority. We’ve had a number of players affected by influenza A over the past week, which understandably disrupted continuity. The positive is that the group is trending in the right direction and several players have returned to full training, others are reintegrating gradually, and we’re managing loads carefully. We’ll continue to assess day-by-day, but overall the squad is in a much healthier place than it was recently.”

Andrioli: “We need to be more ruthless and more desperate for points."

Adelaide United Head Coach Airton Andrioli says the Reds are determined to respond on the pitch when they travel west to face Perth Glory on Saturday night, with the focus firmly on translating performances into points.

Speaking ahead of Isuzu UTE A-League Round 9, Andrioli acknowledged recent frustrations but stressed belief remains strong within the group.

Andrioli on covering Bart Vriends’ injury“Unfortunately Bart picked up an injury in the last game, which affected the way we had to adjust our game plan. We’ve worked on that this week and have a plan ready to go. Now we just have to deal with the situation and trust the players we have available.”
