Centrelink Age Pension reminder for retiring Aussies that can make a 'big difference'

Services Australia has reminded older Australians that the 'top tip' for their Age Pension applications is to get started on their application documents sooner rather than later. While the exact paperwork required will depend on individual circumstances, submitting them to Services Australia early allows the claims process to begin as soon as possible.

So, with the ability to apply for the pension up to 13 weeks before you become eligible, now is a good time for those who are about to turn 67 to gather the necessary paperwork, Services Australia's Community Information Officer Justin Bott explained this week. But before you apply, make sure your documents are "clear, complete, and up to date", he said.

Centrelink Age Pension Warning: Simple Document Mistake Could Delay Payments for Retiring Aussies

Australians approaching retirement have been urged to prepare their Centrelink paperwork early, with Services Australia warning that missing or outdated documents could delay Age Pension payments. For people nearing their 67th birthday, getting the application right can make a significant difference to their retirement income.

The reminder comes as many older Australians prepare to leave the workforce and begin relying on government support. Eligible Australians can submit an Age Pension claim up to 13 weeks before reaching pension age, giving them an opportunity to organise their financial records and identity documents before payments are due to begin.

Services Australia Community Information Officer Justin Bott has encouraged Australians to begin gathering their documents well before submitting an Age Pension application.

Centrelink rule to get Age Pension boost in growing retirement trend

Older Australians navigating retirement have been urged to understand how to get the most out of their savings. More retirees are turning to lifetime annuities to provide a stable base for their post-work income – and those with around $1 million in assets could get a boost from doing so.

That's because buying an annuity, which involves exchanging a lump sum of money for a guaranteed, regular income stream over a set period or for the rest of your life, will reduce your assets in the view of the Australian government and allow you to be topped up by the Age Pension.

"It was unacceptable": Rillie pulls no punches

No matter the short turnaround or the absence of two key players, John Rillie refused to lean on excuses after Perth’s loss to Sydney. In his eyes, the Kings simply wanted it more.

There was also the absence of Ben Henshall with an ankle issue and Dylan Windler battling a heel injury, while David Duke Jr was just in his second game back from an elbow setback. Still, Rillie refused to hide behind personnel challenges after his side led 29 to 28 at quarter-time before fading.

"Absolutely not (make excuses) because everyone's always looking for opportunity and when your opportunity comes now it's a great test," Rillie said.
