Multiple people were killed when a plane crashed at the Statesville Regional Airport in rural North Carolina on Thursday morning, erupting into a large fire on the runway, according to the Associated Press.

The plane was a Cessna C550 owned by GB Aviation Leasing. The address listed on the FAA registry for the plane matches an address for NASCAR star Greg Biffle in Mooresville, N.C., Yahoo Sports has confirmed.

Biffle is a licensed pilot who used his helicopter skills to help people in remote areas of the state who were affected by the severe flooding caused by Hurricane Helene last year.
