Myles Lewis-Skelly, the rise and the return – The Athletic

“It’s where he belongs,” Grant Cornock says, smiling. “I messaged him after the game and said exactly that: ‘That’s your level, this is what you’re capable of’.”

Cornock is talking about Myles Lewis-Skelly leaving Arsenal’s pitch to a standing ovation in a Champions League semi-final three weeks ago. Or, to put it another way, the holder of the Year 7 shot put record at Aldenham School, in Hertfordshire, turning it on against Atletico Madrid in central midfield before winning the Premier League title.

“Myles threw the shot 11 metres 75cm (aged 11),” adds Cornock, who is the director of sport at Aldenham and a former professional with Watford. “At sports day last year, the kids were pleased with themselves throwing 8-9 metres. So there was some serious strength there.”

Lee Dixon tells Mikel Arteta to start ‘brilliant’ Arsenal star in Champions League final – ‘it’s a big call’

Arsenal legend Lee Dixon has encouraged head coach Mikel Arteta to start Myles Lewis-Skelly in the Champions League final on Saturday.

The Gunners have already won the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years this season, and now they are looking to lift the Champions League the first time in their history.

The north London side head into Saturday evening’s final against holders Paris Saint-Germain as the underdogs, but they will feel that they have a chance of nullifying Luis Enrique’s side with their exceptional defence.

Arteta also has several big selection calls to make for the match, including whether to start Lewis-Skelly over Martin Zubimendi in midfield.

Non-league to PL rise was 'a killer' on my body and mind – Jamie Vardy

"A raw, caged animal, drinking, partying and fighting" is the opening line of a new Netflix film about the life of Jamie Vardy.

Vardy, 39 and now playing in the Italian top flight with Cremonese, uses a harsher expletive to describe himself in the documentary.

Yet, his story is also refreshing as an underdog, rags-to-riches hero, who is attempting to reflect on his life and career to a group of journalists at Netflix's HQ in London.

"I don't have time to reflect, to be honest," Vardy says, speaking after the first screening of his Untold UK film, with wife Rebekah watching on quietly but occasionally reacting to questions or her husband's responses.

‘If you asked me to go and do it all again, I wouldn’t’: Jamie Vardy on his rollercoaster career

Striker reflects on the ultimate high with Leicester and the role of the self-titled ‘Inbetweeners’ in his success

“I was just a little freak in the works.” Jamie Vardy is reflecting on his career with the usual levels of self-deprecation and pondering whether anyone could possibly board the same rollercoaster. “It’s not the common way of doing things, is it? I don’t think it will probably happen again, but it did happen for me and it was hard work. It really was tough, but all worth it.”

Humour has always been a preferred Vardy tool for removing the sting from a serious point. He is speaking to mark a new documentary about his rise, which brought him from warehouse work making walking frames and crutches to scarcely credible levels of Premier League success.

Jamie Vardy documentary debuts on Netflix as #1 film, tells underdog story

Jamie Vardy is the unlikely star of Netflix’s newest sensation. The Untold UK: Jamie Vardy documentary just hit number one globally after launching on May 12, 2026. It chronicles football’s most incredible underdog journey.

The documentary reveals the extraordinary path that transformed Jamie Vardy into one of football’s greatest stories. Starting his pro career playing semi-professional football, Vardy worked in a factory while pursuing his dream. His goal-scoring prowess at Fleetwood Town earned him a move to Leicester City in 2012 for £1 million, a record fee for a non-league player at that time.

Directors and producers included raw dressing-room footage, unseen archive material, and intimate interviews. The film lets Vardy, his wife Rebekah, former teammates, and childhood friends tell their perspectives on his remarkable ascent through the ranks.

Rate rise could be just the start, as Trump’s war turns desperate

The Reserve Bank’s expected decision to raise rates on Tuesday is likely to be just the beginning of protracted pain for Australia as petrol prices compound its domestic inflation problem.

The Reserve Bank had plenty of inflation worries well before the US and Israel decided to trigger a global economic crisis. Now the Iran war weighs even more heavily on the central bank’s unpopular role as Australia’s financial disciplinarian.

Inflation has been climbing rather than falling, with headline annual inflation at 3.8 per cent and the spike in oil prices certain to drive that higher.

Jay Manuel on the Rise and Fall of "America’s Next Top Model"

Jay Manuel appears like a Balenciaga-adorned apparition at the host stand of La Mercerie. He’s early for our interview, as am I, and I struggle to out-polite him. Charming, affable, and less catty than ever thanks to what I assume is a desire to make up for the reality TV reckoning, the America’s Next Top Model star isn’t the man I remember from my screen. Yes, his signature blond is a darker shade of silver, but as the creative director turned author tells me, my lack of recognition has more to do with the fact that us viewers never knew the real him in the first place. Parasocial relationships aside, I still have some invasive questions—like, what’s going on with Jay and Tyra? And how exactly did they come up with all those insane shoot concepts? Lucky for me, Netflix’s new three-part documentary Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, is about to begin streaming, and Mr. Jay is ready to reveal everything—snakes, coffins, and all.

Stocks rise ahead of Fed minutes as Nvidia shares gain: Live updates

Stocks moved higher on Wednesday, supported by gains in key technology stocks, as traders awaited the release of the minutes from the Federal Reserve's most recent policy meeting.

The S&P 500 climbed 0.9%, while the Nasdaq Composite added 1.4%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 272 points, or 0.6%.

Nvidia shares advanced more than 2% on the heels of Meta announcing Tuesday that it's going to use millions of Nvidia's chips in its data center buildout.

Additionally, fellow "Magnificent Seven" member Amazon moved higher by 2% after regulatory filings showed Bill Ackman's Pershing Square grew its stake in the e-commerce giant by 65% during the fourth quarter. That makes Amazon the fund's third-largest holding. The move comes after the stock snapped a nine-day losing streak.

Stock market today: Dow, S&P 500, Nasdaq futures rise as AI worries recede, with Fed minutes ahead

Gains for US stocks picked up pace on Wednesday in a sign that AI fears are waning, as investors waited for Federal Reserve minutes to give insight into interest-rate cuts.

The S&P 500 (^GSPC) added 0.5%, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) picked up 0.8%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI), which is less exposed to tech, moved up 0.4% after the major US gauges closed Tuesday with modest gains.

Technology stocks are recovering composure after a turbulent stretch that saw software names in particular take a bruising. But while the pressure is easing, investors are still weighing the long-term impact of AI on business models and corporate competition, and whether AI investments will pay off.

Down the back of Melbourne Park, tucked away behind John Cain Arena, is practice court 22.

This court and those near it are typically quiet at 10am on day one of the Australian Open, as fans rush to take their seats in the stadiums. But on Sunday court 22 was instead overflowing with Filipino fans desperate to catch a glimpse of their new “national hero” Alexandra Eala.

The 20-year-old is largely unknown to your casual tennis fan, but she has surged up the rankings in the past year and became the first Filipina to win a grand slam singles match when she won her first round clash at the 2025 US Open.
