    Guy Ritchie's Best Sherlock Holmes Is Officially Coming Back

    Guy Ritchie's best Sherlock Holmes production is coming back. Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes movies, Sherlock Holmes (2009) and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011), hold a curious place in pop culture. The place they inhabit in our movie history landscape is a strange one.

    It could be argued that the Sherlock Holmes films starring Robert Downey Jr. are the most recognizable adaptations of the franchise we have. It's also likely that a whole generation of movie-goers recognize Ritchie's distinctive fast-cutting style thanks to these two films, rather than something like Snatch or Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

    Yet the films have been forgotten over the years, maybe a result of all the Sherlock Holmes adaptations that have come in its wake, including Guy Ritchie's own, Young Sherlock, on Prime Video. Young Sherlock premiered on Prime in March 2026 and ran for eight episodes, earning an 84% on Rotten Tomatoes.

    Guy Ritchie’s Returning 8-Part Crime Thriller Is The New Peaky Blinders

    Now that Peaky Blinders has run its course through six seasons and a feature-length follow-up on Netflix, fans of flat-capped period gangster dramas need to look elsewhere to get their TV fix. Luckily, Guy Ritchie has arrived right on cue with his own historical crime thriller series, which puts a fresh spin on an iconic screen detective.

    Ritchie’s Prime Video prequel show Young Sherlock has already drawn comparisons with Peaky Blinders due to the distinctive visual style and all-action pacing of its first season. Now, though, it’s about to get even more similar to Steven Knight’s flagship crime drama.

    In the Grey review – Guy Ritchie’s bizarrely buried action caper is a blast

    There’s a great deal of fun to be had in the director’s sly and surprisingly serious thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Henry Cavill and Eiza González

    While the actual quality might never threaten to float him above a three-star rating, I’ve grown an odd, outsized fondness for Guy Ritchie’s recent run of solidly enjoyable lower-tier action films. Whether deadly serious (Wrath of Man), entirely unserious (Operation Fortune) or somewhere between the two (The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare), there’s been a real snap to them, one that’s usually missing from other recent films of that ilk. Ritchie is more deeply invested in the thought-through craft of making a B-movie than many of his peers and there’s a smooth sensuousness to how he moves, each of them looking, feeling and sounding like films he genuinely cares about.

    Guy Ritchie’s ‘Young Sherlock’ Delivers a Perfect Origin Story: TV Review

    Inspired by Andrew Lane’s “Young Sherlock Holmes” novels and with Guy Ritchie as director, Prime Video’s “Young Sherlock” is sensational. The series, which was adapted by Matthew Parkhill, remixes the beloved figure to deliver all the traits fans know and love — with more than one twist. The show turns Victorian England on its head, infusing it with modern energy while offering an intricate mystery anchored by singular characters and extraordinary circumstances.

    “Young Sherlock” begins long before the legendary detective acquires his signature deerstalker cap and pipe. At 19, Sherlock (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) can’t stay out of trouble. It’s 1871, and Sherlock’s claim to fame is that he’s mastered the art of pickpocketing. Although his sticky fingers have landed him a six-month prison sentence, his esteemed older brother, Mycroft (Max Irons), comes to his aid. With their father, Silas (Joseph Fiennes, who is Fiennes Tiffin’s real-life uncle), away on business and their mother, Cordelia (Natascha McElhone), confined to a mental institution, Mycroft guides Sherlock onto the right path by offering him a new job.
