The US senator Sheldon Whitehouse has sent a letter to the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts detailing allegations from whistleblowers that some renovations were “rushed” and federal contracting laws “were ignored” to get the center ready for events, including for Donald Trump to receive the Fifa “peace prize” during the World Cup draw he hosted there in December.

“I have received allegations that the Kennedy Center has conducted rushed renovation and maintenance work with disregard to its commitments to Congress and the federal contracting standards the Center has long applied to its own procurements,” the Rhode Island Democrat wrote in the letter dated Thursday.

A United States senator has published a whistleblower complaint alleging that allies of President Donald Trump mismanaged renovations at the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, in order to please the president’s “aesthetic whims”.

On Saturday, Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island released a letter addressed to the Kennedy Center’s leadership, conveying the accusations.

They include claims that the Kennedy Center, under Trump, bypassed standard procedures for awarding government contracts and approved unnecessary — or faulty — projects.

“These are not isolated lapses but a single pattern that runs counter to everything the Center has told Congress it would do with the public’s money,” Whitehouse wrote.

A Democratic senator on Saturday alleged that whistleblowers have detailed several problems stemming from rushed or improper reconstruction of the Kennedy Center, adding a new layer to the travails of the arts complex as President Donald Trump tried to seize control of it and its name.

Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island said in a release on Saturday that he had received a whistleblower disclosure from the Government Accountability Project, a nonprofit whistleblower protection group, alleging that "the Center rushed a series of renovations driven by the President's aesthetic whims and his desire to star in a series of televised events in December."

Married couple rushed to hospital after dog attack

A married couple has been rushed to hospital after a dog attack on the Gold Coast.

The two were out on a walk with their own dog in Arundel about 6pm on Thursday when a mastiff started to chase them.

The pair called out for help after the dog latched onto them.

Neighbours raced to the couple’s rescue and managed to chase off the dog.

The woman in her 40s suffered wounds to her arm and hands, while the man in his 50s had a laceration and puncture wound to his arms.

Annalyse Blyton, 17, died after she was mauled by a dog while visiting her friend's house in the NSW Hunter Valley.

Her family is pushing for changes to dog ownership laws, including mandatory licensing for owners.

NSW Local Government Minister Ron Hoenig says a review of dog ownership laws is on track to be finalised this year.

Annalyse Blyton was visiting a friend's house in Singleton, in the NSW Hunter Valley, last September when disaster struck.

The 17-year-old was viciously attacked by a mixed breed dog that lived there and died of her injuries four days later.

The Dragons forward was seen on a stretcher and wearing a neck brace, being assisted by paramedics from the training ground at Wollongong's WIN Stadium.

A club statement confirmed Pasifiki Tonga had avoided major injury after undergoing precautionary scans.

"The Dragons can confirm that following scans, Loko Pasifiki Tonga has been cleared of any major neck injury concerns and returned to the Dragons training facility this afternoon," the statement read.

'Call 911': JoJo Siwa rushed to hospital hours before Mall Of America performance

JoJo Siwa has revealed she was recently rushed to hospital just hours before a big performance.

The 22-year-old singer, dancer and actress shared a video to TikTok to revealing that she found herself in "excruciating pain" on the morning of her Mall Of America performance.

She attempted to lie down to ease the pain but it became increasingly worse to the point that Siwa felt like she couldn't breathe.

"I laid down, I closed my eyes and I was like I can't breathe. This is really bad," she said in the video.

Siwa then got into a bath which she says "set [the pain] off a hundred times worse".
