WAFL team selection: Mid-season draftees to debut

The WAFL Eagles have confirmed their team for Sunday’s round eight clash with Peel Thunder

The WAFL Eagles have confirmed their team for Sunday’s round eight clash with Peel Thunder at Mineral Resources Park, with mid-season recruits Marcus Herbert and Oliver Francou set to make their first appearances in blue and gold.

All eyes will be on the exciting new additions, with Herbert (Geelong FC) and Francou (North Adelaide FC) named to debut after being selected in Tuesday’s AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft. The pair add fresh energy to the line-up and will be eager to make an immediate impact in their first outings for the club.

WAFL 2026: West Coast Eagles confirm mid-season draftees Marcus Herbert and Oliver Francou will debut

West Coast have confirmed mid-season draftees Marcus Herbert and Oliver Francou will debut in the WAFL on Sunday and revealed where they fit in to the club’s plans.

Geelong VFL recruit Herbert will slot in on the halfback line and look to replicate the success of last year’s top mid-season recruit Tom McCarthy, while South Australian Francou is set to line up alongside Elijah Hewett and Tom Gross in the engine room.

The pair were surprise selections by the Eagles at Tuesday’s draft, with many expecting the rebuilding club to opt for size to assist their undermanned defence.

Patience pays off for new Eagle after years of state-league toil

Marcus Herbert hopes to follow the same path as two former VFL teammates when he embarks on a six-month contract with West Coast

LOOKING around GMHBA Stadium, across the carpark and down the hallway inside the Geelong Football Club reminded Marcus Herbert to remain patient. Stay the course. Your time will come.

The Cats have mastered the art of mature-age recruiting better than anyone else this century. Before Tom Stewart and Tom Atkins were full-time footballers, they were in the same VFL program Herbert has spent the past six seasons.

But now the 23-year-old from Warrnambool has his chance, just on the opposite side of the country, after West Coast selected the half-back/midfielder at pick No.13 in Tuesday night's Telstra AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft.

Gilded Age season 4 gets official HBO Max release window, Carrie Coon's first look revealed

HBO Max officially confirmed ‘The Gilded Age’ season 4 will arrive in late 2026, with the period drama marking a significant evolution following season 3’s August 2025 finale. Creator Julian Fellowes returns at the helm, alongside returning cast members Carrie Coon, Christine Baranski, Morgan Spector, Louis Jacobson, and Denée Benton, while an extensive roster of fresh talent joins for what will be the eight-episode fourth installment of this Emmy-nominated series.

The Gilded Age season 3 concluded in August 2025, with the sprawling drama having captured audiences through its unflinching portrayal of 1880s New York society. The July 2025 renewal announcement came strategically before the season finale aired, signaling HBO’s confidence in the series’ continued relevance. As a period drama exclusively streaming on HBO Max from Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, the show has established itself as prestige television that examines wealth, ambition, and social climbing through meticulously crafted character arcs. This fourth season represents a watershed moment: the narrative will advance through time, introducing new historical circumstances and relationship complexities that demand fresh perspectives from both the ensemble and newcomers.

NOAA's 2026 Atlantic hurricane season forecast: What you need to know

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on Thursday issued its official outlook for the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, which begins on June 1 and lasts until Nov. 30.

Forecasters are predicting a below-normal hurricane season for the Atlantic basin, which comprises the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico.

There’s roughly a 55% chance the season will be below normal, a 35% chance of a near-normal season and a 10% chance of an above-normal season, according to the outlook.

NOAA is forecasting a range of eight to 14 total named storms. The federal weather agency assigns a name to a storm when it officially becomes a tropical storm, when its maximum sustained winds reach at least 39 mph. Out of those named storms, three to six are forecast to become hurricanes (maximum sustained winds reach 74 mph or higher), including one to three major hurricanes (considered Category 3, 4 or 5).

NOAA reveals 2026 Atlantic hurricane season activity forecast as Super El Niño looms

FOX Weather Hurricane Specialist Bryan Norcross joins us to talk about the NOAA hurricane season outlook released on Thursday. The agency predicts a below-average season in the Atlantic, with 8-14 named storms, 3-6 hurricanes and 1-3 Category 3+ hurricanes. Norcross talks about how El Niño plays into this outlook.

NOAA released its official 2026 Atlantic hurricane season forecast Thursday, predicting a below-average season with 8 to 14 named storms, 3 to 6 hurricanes, which include 1 to 3 major (Category 3+) storms this year.

This satellite image shows Hurricane Melissa south of Jamaica on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025.

In comparison, an average Atlantic hurricane season produces 14 named storms, including 7 hurricanes and 3 major hurricanes.

The next era of Atlantic hurricanes could be far more destructive

Wild year-to-year swings — from punishing hyperactive seasons to quiet years with little activity — could well become the norm for future Atlantic hurricane seasons, according to recent climate change research.

The latest science paints a complex but alarming future, as the unprecedented amount of heat that humans are supplying to the climate system disrupts the fundamental atmospheric circulation pattern in which we designed our civilization.

During the coming busy seasons, death and destruction from unprecedented hurricane catastrophes will probably grow much more commonplace, because even as risks grow, people have continued to build in risky flood-prone regions. But eventually, the coming hurricane catastrophes will pose an increasing threat to the viability of living in many coastal areas, particularly in the Caribbean.

‘Euphoria’ Season 3 Episode 6: Did Rue Survive Alamo’s Attack?

SPOILER ALERT: This story contains spoilers for “Stand Still and See,” Season 3 Episode 6 of “Euphoria,” now streaming on HBO Max.

The great cliffhanger of last week’s “Euphoria” was what was to become of Rue (Zendaya) as Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) charged her with a polo mallet. We learn near the start of the latest episode that Alamo narrowly spares her — but that revelation comes only after we learn in a Zendaya-narrated series of flashbacks (shades of “Euphoria” Season 1!) about what Alamo’s early life was like. “The coldest female Alamo ever knew was his mama,” we’re told, and that mama (played by Danielle Deadwyler) is attempting to raise young Alamo on her own, all while taking on a series of unworthy men as some combination of lover and mark. She cycled through beaus, leaving young Alamo with trust issues toward women and a hazy-at-best idea of how a man ought to act.

‘Outlander’ Season 8, Episode 9 Release Time: Here’s When This Week’s Episode Drops On Starz

The end is nigh. Two long-running shows on my current rotation are heading toward their final two episodes. On Prime Video, The Boys will drop its penultimate episode next week. On Starz, the second-to-last episode of Outlander lands this week.

The adventures of Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) draw to a close in just over a week’s time. I’m tempted to start from the beginning once it’s all over, but I think I’ll pick up the books by Diana Gabaldon instead. As much as I’ve enjoyed this epic TV series, it’s time to go back to the source.

Outlander endgame: All the storylines we still need to see resolved

This week’s pause in the schedule has given us a rare chance to sit with everything Outlander has set in motion in season 8 and to realize just how much still needs to be resolved. With only two episodes left, the series is staring down a long list of unfinished arcs. If it wants to avoid the “season 8 curse” (yes, Game of Thrones, we’re looking at you), it has serious narrative ground to cover.

Here are the storylines we’re hoping to see play out by the series finale.

At the core, only three major book plot lines remain: the Battle of King’s Mountain, Lord John’s abduction and subsequent rescue, and William’s evolving relationship with Jamie — the latter of which finally began to shift in Episode 8. But the show has added other major changes to the story that are now begging to be resolved.

'Outlander': The Frasers Search for Lord John Grey in Penultimate Photos

The end is truly near for Outlander as the penultimate episode, “Pharos,” approaches, serving as the lead-in to Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) send-off.

As viewers will recall, in the previous episode, “In the Forest,” the final moments revealed the kidnapping of Lord John Grey (David Berry), and as the upcoming installment’s logline teases, political threats come to a head when an old friend of Claire and Jamie’s goes missing. In other words, fans need to prepare for a rescue mission if the newly released images for the hour-long story are any indication.

The all-new photos tease some major team-ups, gun-wielding, and impending doom, with William (Charles Vandervaart) collaborating with Jamie and Claire to rescue his adoptive father, as Claire gets feisty with her weaponry. And as Benjamin Cleveland (Turlough Convery) converges on Fraser’s Ridge, the impending battle of King’s Mountain puts everyone on edge. Meanwhile, William also reunites with Amaranthus (Carla Woodcock) in the latest look at what’s to come.

The off-season change that's taken Luke Jackson to new heights

Fremantle's 'unicorn' ruckman keeps getting better, and he's taking the club upwards with him

GEELONG coach Chris Scott once said that the problem with kicking goals against West Coast was the fact that powerful ruckman Nic Naitanui would be waiting for the Cats at the next centre bounce.

Coaches haven't expressed that same sentiment about Fremantle superstar Luke Jackson yet, but it is clear that the damaging Docker is quickly becoming a coaches' nightmare as a high impact ruckman in the same way that Naitanui was in his prime.

Jackson produced arguably the best centre-square performance of any big man in 2026 last Saturday night, with his ruck work against Carlton and ground-level follow-up leading to the Dockers' best scoreboard return from centre clearances since 2019.

He’s a unicorn: Freo to unleash Jackson on the Dogs

They’re one of the hottest teams in the AFL right now, and Fremantle are banking on their “unicorn” to light up Friday night footy when they take on the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium.

The Dockers (6-1) have won six games in a row to put themselves firmly in the hunt for the minor premiership, and will start as hot favourites against an injury-hit Bulldogs outfit on a three-match losing slide.

A big part of Fremantle’s success this season has been the hot form of ruckman Luke Jackson, who has been labelled a unicorn for his ability to wreak havoc in the air and at ground level.

[This story with The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke contains major spoilers for season five, episode five, “One-Shots.”]

Wednesday’s episode of The Boys contained one of the most compelling moments in the show’s history: Misty Tucker Gray, better known as Firecracker (Valorie Curry), was forced to go on her bombastic talk show and grossly vilify her pastor who she adores in order to please Homelander (Antony Starr), who has insisted on his followers on depicting him as the only true God. Bergerac's Damien Molony on the 'pressure' of following John Nettles and balancing his life as a dad-of-two

When Damien Molony said yes to playing the lead role in Bergerac, it never occurred to him that he might become a sex symbol.

The Irish actor, 42, best known for his roles in Being Human and The Split, stars as the titular detective in UKTV's reboot of the BBC's classic crime drama, which first hit screens in the Eighties.

It's a role that made John Nettles, the original Jim Bergerac, a TV heartthrob overnight, with one critic describing him as "half man, half nutmeg and all sex god" at the time.

"It never crossed my mind even remotely," Damien tells HELLO!. "Then someone gave me John Nettles's autobiography, and if you ever get a chance to have a look at the front cover, you'll totally get what they mean."
