Day 6 Match of the day: Joao vs 'the GOAT'

Two men at opposite ends of their career face each other over the net.

Two men at opposite ends of their career face each other over the net.

Joao Fonseca is the 19-year-old rising star, the world No.30, who is through to the third round for the second year running. Novak Djokovic is the 39-year-old living legend who has lifted the Coupe des Mousquetaires three times and 21 other Grand Slam trophies besides.

This is the match that Fonseca has dreamt of. It is also the match that Djokovic knows to be wary of.

The Serb has already taken eight sets and a little over six and a half hours to get this far. Fonseca has also needed eight sets but has got through them in five hours and 41 minutes – and his legs are 20 years younger than Djokovic’s and have carried him through 1,325 fewer matches than his opponent. In the battle of youth against experience, those are not good numbers for experience.

T1 Defeats Gen.G 2-1 in 'Saturday Showdown,' Joins the 10-Win Club

T1 defeated Gen.G Esports 2-1 in the second round of the 2026 League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) regular season, held at LoL PARK in Jongno on the 16th. The match was crucial for securing a favorable position in the top-tier standings, and despite a one-sided loss in the first set, T1 quickly regrouped to complete a reverse sweep.

Early in the first set, Gen.G Esports drew first blood in a scuttle crab skirmish. While T1 secured an initial kill in the 2v2 bot lane, Gen.G held the advantage in the mid-jungle area. As the fight escalated, 'Chovy' Jung Ji-hun's Rumble successfully finished off both members of T1's bot duo. 'Kiin' Kim Gi-in's Renekton also dodged a dive well to pick up a kill. Although T1 managed to take down the mid-jungle with a 5-man mid dive, they were heavily countered in a subsequent bot lane dive, conceding four kills.

Lck showdown: Gen.G and T1 set for another tense clash

Gen.G and T1 are set to meet on the big stage again in this LCK split, and the matchup carries more than bragging rights. The winner will move into a better starting position for the upcoming play-in stage, adding pressure to a rivalry that has already swung sharply once this season.

The betting lean is for this one to go the distance. The recommendation is over 2.5 maps at 1.96 odds, with a Gen.G win by 2-1 priced at 1.53 odds at GG.BET as of 08:22 pm ET on May 14, 2026. That call reflects a matchup that looks tighter on paper than it did the last time the teams met, when Gen.G dominated T1 in this split.
