Olivia Rodrigo sings about heartbreak but she's already chosen her wedding song

We're supposed to be filming an interview in Hampstead Heath – one of her favourite places – but the heavens have burst. It's not just raining cats and dogs, but otters, dolphins and multiple other water-dwelling mammals.

As the monsoon monsoons, our lights and cameras are hastily scooped up and moved into the beautiful Victorian kitchen of nearby Kenwood House.

It's a scramble, but everything's in place (just) when Rodrigo arrives – not a hair out of place, after a short but windy walk from her car to the set.

Although it's an early start, the 23-year-old has already been working. On the journey over, she made final tweaks to a new song called Maggots For Brains, just 10 days before its release.

Album Review: you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love by Olivia Rodrigo

In a bar that closes at eleven, Olivia Rodrigo is praying the stranger across from her will never finish his beer. She’s stalked him online, convinced herself she has intuition, imagined the two of them pressed together in a bathroom line, and decided he looks like an angel frescoed on the walls of Versailles. Then comes the punchline, which is that this close together is the most alive she’s ever been, and will probably kill her too. It does not reach for the soft, grateful register that pop usually wants for songs about love. Rodrigo spent two albums (SOUR, GUTS) translating the body’s worst sensations into hooks and now uses the same machinery for happiness: “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love she’s turning that machinery to happiness.” Her crushes bring nausea, a pulse too fast and the suspicion that she invented the boy standing in front of her.

Olivia Rodrigo: ‘A breakup can be an opportunity to redirect your life’

This story is taken from the summer 2026 issue of Dazed, which is on sale internationally from June 5. Pre-order a copy of the magazine here.

Olivia Rodrigo is growing up. While she’s still the same young woman with big feelings and a penchant for babydoll dresses, the 23-year-old appears much more self-assured than the anxious adolescent of SOUR and GUTS when we meet to discuss her new album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love. (Ironically, she seems happier too.) She’s speaking to me from her native Los Angeles, her cherubic face beaming as she tells me about her morning: mainly interviews and signing vinyls ahead of the much-anticipated release. The record is about her first “adult relationship” – likely her romance with English actor Louis Partridge, rumoured to have ended in late 2025. She tells me she finished making the record in March. “I’m still so close to it,” she says, adding that she’s ready to put it out into the world now. “I’m excited for it to not be ‘mine’ any more.”

In a nod to “Pitch Perfect,” the Eagles tackle joined fellow NFL players and one of the stars of the film for a pop-up performance as the Treblemakers.

If you’ve seen Pitch Perfect 2, you likely remember the iconic “riff-off” scene featuring Green Bay Packers players Clay Matthews, David Bakhtiari, T.J Lang, Josh Sitton, and Don Barclay as a competitive a cappella group performing Destiny’s Child “Bootylicious.”

The moment sounds like something that could only come straight out of a movie — until now. On Wednesday, Jordan Mailata, George Kittle, and Bijan Robinson went Pitch Perfect at San Francisco’s Ferry Building ahead of Super Bowl LX weekend.

Adam Devine teams with NFL stars for surprise 'Pitch Perfect' moment

Actor Adam Devine returned to his "Pitch Perfect" roots on Feb. 4 outside the Ferry Building in San Francisco. The new Treblemaker-in-training crew was made up of three NFL heavyweights: Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson, San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle and Philadelphia Eagles tackle Jordan Mailata.

Hundreds of fans and passersby crowded around as the four members performed "Eye of the Tiger." Devine said their surprise a cappella troupe is dubbed "The Golden Keys."

"It felt just like going home," Devine told USA TODAY about singing a cappella. "It's like a warm blanket that is keeping me warm on these cold San Francisco nights. When Marriott told me about this idea, I was like, 'I'm all in.'"
