French Open 2026: Sinner v Cerundolo, Osaka v Vekic, and more on day five – live

🎾 Updates from the fifth day’s play at Roland Garros
🎾 Mensik: playing in Paris heat ‘insane’ | Mail Daniel

Sinner breaks Cerudolo again to lead 6-3 4-1, and he’ll soon be back in the locker room, so too Cobolli, who leads Wu 6-4 6-4 4-3. Otherwise, Tiafoe leads Hurkacz 2-1 with a break, Diaz acosta now leads Tien 5-7 6-4 5-3, Faria leads Struff 7-5 7-6 2-0 and Svajda leads Walton 6-3 6-4 5-6 on serve.

Back on Lenglen, Kouame – another it’s hard to see losing –holds for 6-5, then reaches 30-40 and set point, varying the trajectory and pace of his forehands … before exploding into a backhand winner, sent from centre to corner, inside-in! It’s a fantastic shot but more than that, a fantastic rally, totally controlled by a 17-year-old who looks terrifyingly complete. So he strikes what has already come to be his pose, right hand cupping an ear and left arm stretched across his body, hand on heart. This is amazing, affirming and inspiring to watch, a young man announcing himself to the world like it’s his; this is so overjoying I barely know what to do with myself and Kouame leads 6-3 7-5.

French Open 2026: Osaka and Gauff through; Medvedev crashes out on boiling day three – live

17-year-old Frenchman Moïse Kouamé becomes youngest male to win a grand slam singles match since 2009, as Aryna Sabalenka sails through in straight sets

Ok, that’s it for it our day three coverage of the French Open. Keep your eyes peeled out for Tumaini Carayol’s updates from Roland Garros. Earlier he saw the talented French teenager Moïse Kouamé beat Marin Cilic in front of a raptuous Court Simonne Mathieu:

After taking the second set, home favourite Diane Parry is down a break in the third against Anhelina Kalinina, it’s currently 2-0 to the Ukrainian in that decider on Chatrier. On Court 7, 14th seed Luciano Darderi was serving for the first set at 5-4 against Sebastian Ofner of Austria, but failed to see it off and has been broken back.

French Open 2026: Sabalenka and Kouame win; Medvedev in action on sweltering day three – live

17-year-old Frenchman Moïse Kouamé becomes youngest male to win a grand slam singles match since 2009, as Aryna Sabalenka sails through in straight sets

Osaka holds for 1-0 but, more generally, where is she going? When she lost a close one she should’ve won, against Swiatek in 2024, I thought she was fully back, but it’s not quite worked out that way. She does still have time, though, and if she finds her best form she can beat anyone. She leads Siegemund 1-0.

Moise Kouame, though. At 17, I was still being a moron in school – yes, and everywhere else I went. It’s probably for the best I didn’t have the talent of a top tenniser, but he very much does and I’d not be at all surprised if he goes a bit further – it’s Norrie or Vallejo next, then Tabilo, Vaucherot or Faurel after that.

After some dips in form, Iga Swiatek is feeling confident again as she is playing sensational tennis at a tournament she has had plenty of success at. That has been evident having only dropped a combined total of six games to Naomi Osaka and Jessica Pegula in her last two rounds and now chases more Italian triumphs in her bid to reach the final. Standing in her way is another player who has had previous success in Rome in the form of Elina Svitolina who saved 16 break points to defeat Elena Rybakina to set up an Indian Wells rematch with the Pole.

Jannik Sinner makes history with victory in Madrid Open against Zverev

It took just 14 minutes of the Madrid Open final for all 12,500 spectators packed inside Estadio Manolo Santana to collectively conclude that the match was already over. Down 0-3 and already desperately searching for a response to the superb play from his opponent, Alexander Zverev opened his service game with two horrific missed overhead smashes in consecutive points. He clearly did not believe he could win this match.

While Zverev flailed helplessly throughout his pitiful 56 minutes on court, the world No 1, Jannik Sinner, pieced together yet another startling exhibition of relentless, destructive shotmaking paired with unwavering focus as he continued his total domination of men’s tennis by destroying Zverev 6-1, 6-2 to capture the Madrid Open title for the first time in his career.

Jannik Sinner: Madrid Open win against Alexander Zverev sets Masters title record

Jannik Sinner completed a 23rd consecutive victory to win the Madrid Open

Jannik Sinner became the first man to win five consecutive Masters 1000 titles after beating Alexander Zverev in straight sets to win the Madrid Open.

The Italian first seed completed an impressive 6-1 6-2 victory to achieve his record-breaking feat.

Sinner, 24, has won the opening three ATP 1000 events of the season in Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo, and also triumphed five months ago in Paris.

He surpassed the mark of Novak Djokovic, who won four consecutive events on three occasions, and Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who triumphed in four straight tournaments in 2013.

With Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic out of Madrid, who can stop streaking Jannik Sinner?

The men's draw is out and the world No. 1 could face two in-form Americans—Tommy Paul and Ben Shelton—en route to the final.

The 2026 Mutua Madrid Open men’s draw is out and all eyes will be on world No. 1 Jannik Sinner and his bid to win a fifth straight Masters 1000 title—and his first at the Caja Magica.

Sinner, who will face a qualifier following a first-round bye, arrives in Madrid having reclaimed world No. 1 from Carlos Alcaraz by winning the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, and with both Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic absent from the draw due to injuries, it will take a new challenger to snap the Italian’s 17-match winning streak.

    A stunning comeback… Sinner shatters Alcaraz’s clay-court legend!

Yannick Sinner’s triumph on the Monte Carlo clay heralded a pivotal shift in his career, as the Italian ended Carlos Alcaraz’s reign to capture the title and, simultaneously, ascend to World No. 1 in the ATP rankings.

In a breath-taking 2h 15m encounter, Sinner proved his status as a true all-rounder by turning the tables on the top clay-court specialist.

The Italian clinched both sets 7-6, 6-3 in a match characterised by his control of the tempo and physical strength, crowning himself the new king of the red clay.

The win will return him to World No.1 on Monday. “Returning to the top means a lot, but what matters most is finally winning a major title on clay, which was a real challenge for me,” Sinner said.

Sentenza Sinner: Auger-Aliassime ko, ora Zverev in semifinale.
