Slater predicts Cleary injury mystery as ‘bad word’ surfaces

Billy Slater has warned fans may not know the severity of Nathan Cleary‘s injury until the day of the Panthers’ preliminary final, as Penrith keep their lips sealed on the matter.

Cleary appeared to be in discomfort in the final 10 minutes of the side’s 19-12 qualifying final win over the Roosters on Sunday, where he injured his foot.

The superstar playmaker was seen limping around the field but refused to come off, eventually lining up to nail a field goal to put Penrith in front late in the match.

Cleary charged with dangerous contact

Panthers halfback Nathan Cleary has been charged by the NRL Match Review Committee following the Qualifying Final against the Sydney Roosters at CommBank Stadium.

Cleary was charged with a grade one offence for contact on Roosters player Hugo Savala in the 40th minute.

Cleary faces a monetary fine and remains available for selection for the Preliminary Final.

NRL hands down decision on Cleary after finals sin-binning

Nathan Cleary will not be suspended for making contact with the kicking leg of Hugo Savala in Penrith's qualifying final win over the Roosters.

The star Panthers halfback was sent to the sin-bin for dangerous contact but was only hit with a grade-one charge, meaning he can pay a fine and play the preliminary final.

Penrith will play either the Warriors or Knights in their preliminary final, while the Roosters and Sharks face off this weekend for the chance to face the Dolphins.

Nathan Cleary has avoided a ban for dangerous contact, with the Panthers star now just sweating on a foot injury ahead of Penrith's NRL preliminary final.

Billy Slater says he still doesn’t know if he’ll coach Queensland next year but admits the job “would be hard to walk away from”.

Speaking on Nine’s The Sunday Footy Show in the wake of the 30-12 loss to NSW in the State of Origin decider, the legendary fullback also heaped praise on the much-maligned Laurie Daley.

Slater is trying to come to terms with losing two deciders at Suncorp Stadium in three years.

The 43-year-old, who has won three of five series since taking over as Maroons coach in 2022, was asked by NSW icon Andrew Johns if he would go around again next year.
