Powerball drawing: Jackpot soars to $856 million, eighth largest in game history

The Powerball jackpot has continued its summer surge, reaching an estimated $856 million ahead of Saturday night's drawing.

The jackpot is now the eighth largest jackpots in game history.

It is the largest Powerball jackpot since a $1.817 billion prize won in Arkansas on Christmas Eve 2025, which remains the second-largest jackpot ever won in the game.

The Powerball jackpot was last won on May 2, 2026, by two tickets in Florida and Texas that split a $20 million jackpot.

The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are a minuscule 1 in 292.2 million. Those odds will be the same for U.S. and U.K. players, lottery officials say.

Powerball reaches $748M. Financial advisors say winners should do this

Millions of dollars, $748 million to be exact, are on the line tonight.

As lottery players await the Monday, Aug. 3 drawing and the chance that their $2 ticket could be worth nearly three-quarters of a billion dollars, financial planning for a potential jackpot win should be on their mind, especially if they're feeling lucky.

With the prize pot nearing the top 10 largest jackpots in the game's history, having a game plan in place is not only smart, but it's also necessary. Claiming that much money, according to financial experts, will likely draw taxes, grifters, friends and family members.

Therefore, the first and most important piece of financial advice is: "Don’t shout your win from the rooftop," Rob Burnette, financial and investment advisor at Outlook Financial Center in Troy, Ohio, previously told USA TODAY.

Amazon stock soars 15% as e-commerce giant's AWS cloud business booms in 'home run' quarter

What's behind the move: The e-commerce and cloud giant topped second quarter expectations as accelerating cloud growth at Amazon Web Services (AWS) helped drive strong results. Amazon also said its AI and custom chip businesses have each surpassed a $25 billion annualized revenue run rate.

AWS generated $42.2 billion in second quarter revenue, up 36.7% year over year, fueled by strength across both its core cloud business and AI services.

"We added over $4.6 billion in revenue quarter over quarter — about 80% more than our largest increase ever. Our backlog stands at $496 billion, growing triple digits year over year," Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said during the company's earnings call.

    Jeff Bezos Is World's Third-Richest Again—Overtaking Google’s Sergei Brin

Jeff Bezos on Friday became the world’s third-richest person once again, reclaiming the ranking from Google co-founder Sergey Brin as Amazon’s stock accelerated at its fastest pace in four years, following a hotter-than-expected earnings report.

Shares of Amazon surged about 14% shortly after trading opened on Friday, pacing the stock’s largest single-day gain since April 24, 2015 (14.1%).

That burst followed Amazon’s quarterly earnings on Thursday, in which the firm reported $206.6 billion in revenue boosted by a 37% year-over-year surge in cloud sales to $42.2 billion, exceeding Wall Street’s estimates of $197 billion and $40.5 billion, respectively, according to FactSet.

Amazon even raised its spending forecast this year to $220 billion, up from $200 billion, as CEO Andy Jassy said a majority of Amazon’s capital expenditures would go toward matching demand for AI, noting the firm was “unusually well-positioned for this AI inflection.”

Amazon's AWS posts fastest growth since 2021, citing AI and chip demand

Amazon's cloud segment grew faster than analysts had predicted in the second quarter, with revenue increasing almost 37%, marking the strongest expansion since 2021.

The digital commerce company said in a Thursday statement that Amazon Web Services (AWS) generated $42.23 billion in revenue during the June quarter. Analysts surveyed by StreetAccount had been looking for $40.54 billion. The growth rate accelerated from 28% in the first quarter.

AWS' artificial intelligence business and the unit's chips each brought in over $25 billion in annualized revenue, more than doubling from last year.

Amazon remains a larger force in cloud computing than any other company. Microsoft said Wednesday that revenue from Azure and other cloud services were growing 43%, compared with 40% in the March quarter. The Windows company touted over $100 billion in revenue from Azure and other cloud services over the past 12 months. The equivalent figure for Amazon is $148.40 billion.

Intel's stock soars 20% as results top estimates, with chipmaker showing signs of growth

Intel reported first-quarter earnings Thursday that blew past Wall Street's expectations, as the struggling chipmaker shows signs of a revival.

Here's how the company did, compared with estimates from analysts polled by LSEG:

Intel has been a Wall Street darling of late, with its stock up more than 80% this year as of Thursday's close, after soaring 84% in 2025. The chipmaker has been championed by the Trump administration, which turned the U.S. government into the largest shareholder last year as part of an effort to bring chip manufacturing stateside. Nvidia and SoftBank also invested billions in Intel.

But the business, which fell way behind rivals Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices during the early stages of the artificial intelligence boom, hasn't been seeing much momentum.

Intel stock soars on Q1 earnings beat, strong outlook

Intel (INTC) stock rocketed more than 16% higher in after-hours trading following a first quarter earnings report that beat analysts’ expectations on the top and bottom lines and provided better-than-anticipated Q2 guidance on strong data center sales.

Intel said it expects revenue of between $13.8 billion and $14.8 billion for the second quarter. Wall Street was anticipating $13.03 billion.

For Q1, Intel saw adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $0.29 on revenue of $13.6 billion. Wall Street was anticipating EPS of $0.01 and revenue of $12.36 billion, according to Bloomberg analyst consensus data.

The company saw EPS of $0.13 and revenue of $12.67 billion in the same quarter last year.

Stock market today: Dow surges 900 points, S&P 500 and Nasdaq soar after Iranian leader signals openness to negotiations

US stocks surged on Tuesday after the Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkian, signaled that the regime may be willing to negotiate toward an end to the war that has ravaged the global energy market.

Stocks were already in the green earlier in the session after President Trump reportedly told administration officials that he would be willing to end the war in Iran without a full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and said that the war won't last "much longer."

The S&P 500 (^GSPC) rose 2.9%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) traded up by 2.5%, or more than 1,000 points. The Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) gained a stronger 3.8% as megacap tech stocks jumped.

Two days short of his 41st birthday, LeBron James has delivered a big performance to help put the Los Angeles Lakers back on track in a 125-101 thumping of the Sacramento Kings.

Four-time NBA MVP James produced some impressive dunks amid scoring 24 points on 11-of-13 shooting from the field as he combined with fellow superstar Luka Doncic (34 points) to ensure the Lakers snapped a three-game losing streak in Sunday's home match.

LeBron James reflects on longevity before 41st birthday: 'I’m kicking [Father Time's] ass'

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James will turn 41 on Tuesday. Amid all of his records and accomplishments over his legendary 23-year NBA career, the fact that he's still producing at a high level despite joining the league in 2003 might be his most impressive feat.

James seems to believe that's the case as well. When asked about his age Sunday night, James referenced a commercial he shot in 2023, in which he defeats "Father Time," played by Jason Momoa, in various activities.

James reflected on still performing at a high level despite filming that commercial a few years ago, saying, "I'm kicking [Father Time's] ass on the back nine."
