Kevin Feige Confirms ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s Place in the MCU Timeline [Exclusive]

Peter Parker's (Tom Holland) life hasn't exactly been the easiest to live ever since he first bumped into Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) a decade ago — and it's fair to say it got increasingly complicated since the entire world has forgotten who he was. Now, in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, we see a Spider-Man who is alone, anonymous, and trying to rebuild his life while the universe changes around him and hurtles towards, well, Doom. But speaking of Doom… where exactly does this next adventure sit in the grand timeline at Marvel Studios?

Speaking with Collider’s Steve Weintraub alongside producer Amy Pascal, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set before Avengers: Doomsday. While Feige remained tight-lipped about how long before Doomsday the film is set, Pascal clarified how long it's been for Peter Parker since the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. When asked when the movie occurs in relation to Doomsday, Feige replied, “It takes place before." Pressed on whether it happens immediately beforehand, Feige clarified, “No, it’s before.” Pascal then offered the more precise timeline detail: “Four years after No Way Home.”

Tom Holland Says Hiding Spider-Man: Brand New Day Spoilers Has Been Difficult For Two Big Reasons [EXCLUSIVE]

Every new Marvel movie has fans of the MCU scouring the internet for even a scrap of new information long before it’s even been released. Even now, the desire for a full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday has given way to plenty of rumors and hearsay about not only what will happen in the movie but also how the editing of the film is coming together. A new Spider-Man always takes this hype into overdrive, though, and the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day is no different, with fans eager to find out all the secrets of the film before they get a chance to see it, even now, ten days before the movie is released.

Everything We Learned From the ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Press Conference

Spider-Man swings back into theaters later this month, five years after the whopping success of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. Tom Holland dons the iconic Spidey suit again for a fourth Marvel Cinematic Universe outing that promises to tell a more intimate, street-level story of Peter Parker.

The last time Peter (Tom Holland) featured in the MCU, his life changed forever. Following Dr. Strange’s spell at the end of No Way Home, the entire, including those he loves the most, forgot that he exists. Four years on, Peter thrives as the friendly neighborhood web-slinger, while struggling to come to terms with isolation from his girlfriend MJ (Zendaya) and best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon). But when a powerful new threat (Sadie Sink) emerges, Peter undergoes a surprising and potentially dangerous evolution in his powers.

Spider which uses spring trap to capture prey discovered in Australia

A new species of spider which weaves a catapult-like silk trap to snare a single type of ant has been discovered in the remote rainforests of northern Australia.

Researchers believe the nocturnal predator developed the unique hunting method to make meals of aggressive ants which are notoriously dangerous – and unusual – prey for arachnids.

The snare's "exceptionally high power" flings the ant into a bigger web at "15 times the most extreme g-forces experienced by jet pilots", said lead researcher Prof Ajay Narendra.

Though it is yet to be formally named, scientists have nicknamed the tiny spider "ballista", after the ancient weapon used to hurl stones in battle.

Newly discovered spider uses 'ballista' web to capture prey

A newly discovered spider uses an ingenious method to launch its prey into the air, named after an ancient Roman weapon.

The ballista spider was discovered in the rainforests of Far North Queensland.

The spider is yet to be formally named, but belongs to the genus Propostira.

A bizarre species of spider from the remote rainforests of Far North Queensland springs a nasty surprise when its prey is lured into its web.

The tiny and newly discovered ballista spider — named after an ancient Roman weapon that used a spring to launch a stone — uses an ingenious method to literally launch its prey into the air.

This tiny Australian spider uses a high-powered web catapult to trap and eat aggressive ants

There’s more than one way a spider can spin its web. Some construct large vertical orb webs, while others build horizontal sheet webs or tangled cobwebs that ensnare crawling insects.

There’s also more than one way a spider can catch its dinner. Net-casting spiders throw small silk nets over unsuspecting prey, while slingshot spiders use their conical webs like catapults, launching both themselves and the web toward nearby prey.

In the tropical rainforests of the Cape York Peninsula in Queensland, we discovered a spider with a new hunting strategy: a small nocturnal animal of the genus Propostira which we call the ballista spider.

I watched 'Spider-Noir' in black and white and color, and there's a clear winner

So, you've decided to watch Spider-Noir. Good choice, it's a fun ride! But before you press play and settle in for an episode of Nicolas Cage slinging webs and taking names, Prime Video offers you one more choice. Do you want to watch the series in "Authentic Black and White" or "True-Hue Full Color"?

Both options will give you the same story, just in a different color format. The former mimics the black-and-white look of film noir movies, which Spider-Noir references heavily throughout. The latter, on the other hand, offers up a vibrantly colored experience, but one that still feels fairly vintage.

Nicolas Cage is just one reason to watch this sleek, neo-noir gem

Multiverse fatigue once prompted Hollywood high priest Martin Scorsese to claim superhero properties lacked “revelation, mystery or genuine emotional danger”. Created by Oren Uziel, Prime Video’s eight-part series Spider-Noir is different.

Yes, in terms of story there aren’t huge revelations to be found here. These are spin-off characters from a franchise thoroughly milked of its venom. But the series is certainly great art.

Spider-Noir review – Nicolas Cage’s stylish take on the superhero as a 1940s detective is huge fun

All smoke, shady dames and black and white cinematography, Marvel’s latest Spidey offering is fast, witty and confident

As is increasingly, wearyingly, the case as the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand/bloat/chase the dollar in an ever-more unseemly and less rewarding manner – delete according to taste – Prime Video’s new series, Spider-Noir, requires you to set aside some lore while retaining other bits. Thus I should point out that the arachno-inflected human being brought to you here is played by Nicolas Cage but is not the spider character that he played in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse, although he sounds a lot alike. That one was called Peter Parker, as is traditional. This one’s called Ben Reilly. Why you would still cast one of the most divisively idiosyncratic performers in modern cinematic history – who can no more be dissociated from any of his previous parts by the average human brain than the concept of sourness can be uncoupled from a lemon, sweetness from honey, or Nigel Farage’s face from that of a melting frog’s – is beyond me, but I guess … that’s Hollywood?

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ First Look: Tom Holland’s Web-Slinger Saves a Life as New Movie Promises a ‘Rebirth’

Tom Holland is back in superhero mode in the first look at “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” in theaters July 31 from Sony Pictures. Holland announced on Instagram the comic book tentpole’s official trailer will drop on Wednesday. Ahead of the trailer launch, seconds of first-look footage will be dropping on different fan social media accounts around the world.

In the first look at “Brand New Day,” Holland’s Spider-Man is shown saving someone as he web-slings between two buildings. A voice is heard saying the word “rebirth.” The gloomy, slow-motion aesthetic to the footage has more of a Zack Snyder vibe compared to Holland’s three previous outings as Spider-Man. “Brand New Day” is the first Holland-led Spider-Man movie not to be directed by Jon Watts. “Shang-Chi” helmer Destin Daniel Cretton is in the director’s chair this time.

Tom Holland and fans tease 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' trailer

The latest Marvel trailer launch seems like more of a scavenger hunt.

Tom Holland took to Instagram on Tuesday to reveal the trailer for "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is about to debut. But there's a bit more to it. The actor said "we are doing something that has never been done before," adding that "some of our greatest fans are going to help us release pieces of" the trailer.

Holland's post tagged an Instagram account from a fan based in Peru, who shared a brief, two-second snippet taken from the trailer. The clip shows Spider-Man swinging through the air while holding a person, recreating the cover of the character's first comic book appearance in 1962.
