Two PlayTime members suspended from the Dota 2 Esports World Cup amid integrity investigation

The Dota 2 Esports World Cup (EWC) 2026 Survival Stage has been thrown into limbo after two members of South American team PlayTime were provisionally suspended amid an ongoing integrity investigation. The individuals involved are the team's sporting director, Juan “Vintage” David Angulo Nicho, and mid laner Gonzalo “DarkMago” Herrera.

PlayTime were scheduled to face Vici Gaming in a Survival Stage series last night, but the match was indefinitely postponed after tournament organisers announced that an "integrity issue was identified and referred for review".

Hours later, the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC), the integrity partner for EWC 2026, confirmed that it had launched an investigation into "suspected breaches of the ESIC Anti-Corruption Code and Player Code of Conduct", specifically naming Vintage and DarkMago.

Markéta Vondroušová suspended for 4 years after refusing doping test

2023 Wimbledon champion Markéta Vondroušová has been suspended for four years after refusing a doping test in early December 2025.

An independent tribunal gave Vondroušová, who is an Olympic silver medalist and has a career-high ranking of world No. 6, the maximum penalty for the offence. The 26-year-old Czech did not submit a sample when notified by a Doping Control Officer (DCO) during an out-of-competition test attempt at her home at around 8 p.m. on December 3, 2025.

Vondroušová was charged by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), which oversees anti-doping in tennis, in February. Vondroušová issued a statement on Instagram in April, detailing how the random visit from a doping control official, outside of her one-hour whereabouts slot for testing, caused an “acute stress reaction” which, she said, prevented her from thinking clearly.

The NBA suspended Sacramento Kings guard Dennis Schroder three games Saturday for confronting and attempting to strike Luka Doncic after the Kings' loss to the Lakers in Los Angeles on Dec. 28.

Doncic and Schroder jawed at each other during various points of the Kings' 125-101 loss. During a timeout, Doncic taunted Schroder, telling him he "should've signed that contract" in reference to the four-year, $82 million extension Schroder declined from the Lakers a few years ago.

Things appeared to cool off as the game ended. But Schroder left the visitors locker room at Crypto.com Arena, spotted Doncic and tempers flared again inside the tunnel across from the home bench.

The incident occurred approximately 40 minutes following the Kings’ 125-101 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Dec. 28 at Crypto.com Arena, when Schröder sought out the player in an arena hallway and initiated the confrontation.

Schröder will begin serving his suspension tomorrow when the Kings host the Houston Rockets at Golden 1 Center.
