Sydney FC Sign New Zealand U17 Captain

Sydney FC have secured the signing of one of Australia and New Zealand’s brightest young defensive prospects, with recently turned 17-year-old Academy graduate, Ethan Dyer, signing his first professional contract.

The highly-rated central defender has agreed to a three-year deal after impressing new Head Coach Patrick Kisnorbo and goes straight into the squad to face Bayswater SC in the Hahn Australia Cup 2026 tomorrow night.

Sutherlandshire born Dyer is captain of New Zealand’s Under 17’s having qualified to play for the Kiwi’s through his father.

Kisnorbo – a centre-half himself – believes Dyer can develop into a very good player.

Seventeen-year-old Sutherland Shire footballer Ethan Dyer has been signed by Sydney FC while still at school.

Dyer joined the club's academy at under-14 level from Sutherland Sharks.

The highly-rated central defender, who attends Endeavour Sports High School, has signed a three-year deal after impressing new head coach Patrick Kisnorbo.

Dyer has gone straight into the squad to face Bayswater SC in the Hahn Australia Cup 2026 tonight (Tuesday).

"This is incredible news for the 17 year old. We are so proud of you, Ethan," the school posted.

Shire-born Dyer is captain of New Zealand's Under 17s, having qualified to play for the Kiwis through his father.

Newcastle Jets snap up experienced defender after Sky Blues exit

Newcastle Jets have bolstered their defence ahead of the 2026/27 Isuzu UTE A-League season, signing experienced centre-back Alex Grant on a one-year deal following his departure from Sydney FC.

The 32-year-old arrives in Newcastle after making 31 appearances across all competitions for the Sky Blues, where he played a key role in the club’s run to the AFC Champions League Two semi-finals.

Prior to joining Sydney, Grant enjoyed spells with Perth Glory, Chinese Super League side Tianjin Jinmen Tiger and Korean outfit Pohang Steelers.

Business and First class flyers already have access to the Priority Security lane at Sydney International Airport, which allows them to skip the general queue.

Everyone plans to arrive at the airport with plenty of time to spare before a flight.

But travel has a funny way of throwing unexpected delays into the mix.

And sometimes, what was meant to be a stress-free departure quickly unravels into a mad rush.

Now, for $20, passengers can jump the queue to ensure they take off on time at Sydney Airport, a perk once reserved for business and first class passengers.

Announced this week, the new Fast Track service aims to give travellers greater "control" over their airport journey, and it can be purchased in advance.

"Fast Track is a service that gives customers priority access at the main security screening point at Sydney Airport's T1 departures," the airport states.

Members of the public called emergency services to a house on North Rocks Road in Carlingford shortly after 7am about reports of a shooting.

A man has been shot dead outside a Sydney home in what police say was a targeted attack, as detectives investigate if the brazen killing is linked to organised crime.

A member of the public found the man, believed to be aged in his 30s, suffering several gunshot wounds in a car parked outside a Carlingford home shortly after 7am on Wednesday. He died at the scene.

The man, who is known to police, is yet to be formally identified. No arrests have been made.

North Rocks Road has been closed and the public are advised to avoid the area.

As the Spanish flu pandemic raged and soldiers returned home from World War I, a plot of land in Burke Road, Camberwell, was sold off under strict conditions.

More than a century later, that covenant is at the centre of a legal fight over plans to develop the $4.5 million property in a residential part of Camberwell into a childcare centre for 78 kids.

Restrictions on 508-510 Burke Road since 1919 include that it cannot be used for quarrying, corrugated iron roofs are not permitted, and the owner must not “allow to be erected … any building other than a private dwelling”.

A forgotten lottery ticket was tucked inside an Ingleburn man’s wallet for 72 days before he cleaned it out and made the heart-stopping discovery it was worth $100,000.

The Macarthur resident held the 1st Prize winning entry in Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draw 11066, drawn Monday 30 March 2026 and scored $100,000.
