Tbirds teach Fever ‘absolute lesson’ as star’s ‘pity party’ spray fails to ignite

The Adelaide Thunderbirds have cemented themselves in Super Netball’s top two with an historic 20-goal demolition of third-placed West Coast Fever in Perth on Friday night.

Accused of having a “pity party” by Fever leader Fran Williams, the home side were totally outclassed from the opening whistle as Adelaide celebrated star Shamera Sterling-Humphrey’s 100th game in style.

The 65-45 loss is the Fever’s worst defeat at home since 2019 and their worst-ever loss to the Adelaide Thunderbirds in Super Netball.

The Adelaide Thunderbirds have made a powerful statement to their Super Netball rivals with a crushing 65-45 away win over West Coast Fever in Perth.

The result moved Adelaide to the top of the ladder on percentage above the unbeaten Melbourne Vixens, who play the Queensland Firebirds on Sunday.

Both the Vixens and Thunderbirds are two wins ahead of third-placed Fever, whose three losses this season have been against those two teams.

Super Netball 2026: West Coast Fever at full strength for Adelaide Thunderbirds challenge

West Coast Fever’s hopes of causing an upset against Adelaide under the Friday night lights of RAC Arena have been boosted by the return of star midcourter Alice Teague-Neeld.

Teague-Neeld has not played the past three games because of a back injury, but will return to the 10-player squad as Fever coach Dan Ryan gets his entire contracted list on the court for the first time this season.

Injuries to Teague-Neeld, Olivia Wilkinson, Ruth Aryang, and Zoe Cransberg throughout the season have forced last year’s grand finalists to rely heavily on the depth of their squad, which they’ve done successfully, sitting two wins clear in third with a 6-2 record.

I can teach Pimblett some lessons – Gaethje

Paddy Pimblett has had seven fights in the UFC, while Justin Gaethje has had eight years competing in the MMA promotion

Justin Gaethje is confident he can "teach" Paddy Pimblett "some lessons" when the pair meet in the octagon on Saturday at UFC 324.

The lightweights will contest the interim title in Las Vegas, with the experienced 37-year-old Gaethje admitting he is the underdog.

Pimblett, 31, said he expects to finish Gaethje within three rounds and described the American as a "boxer with leg kicks".

"I hope he's overconfident in himself, just like I was when I was 30 years old, so I can teach him some lessons," Gaethje told BBC Sport.

MMA fans are familiar with the two sides of Paddy Pimblett.

There is the jovial, funny, quirky Paddy who gives up his spare time to attend charity boxing matches and has become an advocate for his community and mental health awareness.

He is as much a fan of the sport as he is an elite fighter; always ready to chat with fans and take pictures.

Then there's the no-nonsense, abrasive Paddy, who we have seen clash on multiple occasions with, among others, lightweight champion Ilia Topuria. But it doesn't matter who you are, Pimblett (23-3) won't take a backwards step if you offer him a challenge.
