Ticket applications open as 500-day countdown begins to Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027

With 500 days to go until Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 kicks off in Australia, the ticket Application Phase opens today, following extraordinary Presale demand that saw more than 750,000 tickets purchased by fans coming from 135 countries.

With 500 days to go until Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 kicks off in Australia, the ticket Application Phase opens today, following extraordinary Presale demand that saw more than 750,000 tickets purchased by fans coming from 135 countries.

To mark the milestone, Rugby World Cup winner and former New Zealand international Brad Thorn, former Australian Captain James Horwill and current Wallaby Tom Lynagh joined hundreds of school students from Brisbane to create a large-scale human mosaic spelling ‘RWC27’, alongside the Webb Ellis Cup which returned to the city for the first time in 23 years.

$2000 for a seat at the footy? Rugby World Cup tickets hit new heights

At almost $2000, it is comfortably the most expensive single ticket in Australian footy history.

But the head of the 2027 World Cup says the hefty price for a category one seat at the final at Accor Stadium next year – $1950 – is a fair cost for a premium event, and helps unlock more affordable tickets at other World Cup games, too.

The next stage of ticket sales for the 2027 World Cup begins on Tuesday, with the opening of the “Application Phase”. It follows the sale of the first 750,000 tickets in a controversial pre-sales stage in February.

The chaotic pre-sale prompted a backlash from angry fans, who had suffered 10-hour waits and system crashes on the overwhelmed World Cup ticketing website

Rugby World Cup director defends crazy $1,950 category one ticket cost for final

Next year's Rugby World Cup final will officially be the most expensive to attend in the game's history, with top-tier tickets to the prized event priced at almost $2,000 a pop – or a return flight to Europe.

In fact, it will be the most expensive in Australian footy history.

After an incredible 750,000 tickets were sold during World Rugby's controversial pre-sales stage in February, the next stage of ticket sales for the 2027 showpiece event on Australian soil – the first time the country has hosted the tournament since 2003 – will open on Tuesday.

Qantas discounts millions of fares to bolster weakening sentiment

Qantas is cutting airfares on local flights despite skyrocketing aviation fuel prices as it bolsters bookings amid a broader slump in consumer sentiment.

The move to discount 2 million seats will put pressure on Virgin Australia to follow with its own fare reduction. Shares in both airlines have been sold off as investors fret about the higher cost of aviation fuel – despite Virgin having hedged most of its refining margins at the time it listed on the ASX.

Fiji Airways said last week it would pause some services to Australia and the US because of high fuel prices and market uncertainty.

AirAsia has cut flights from Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne and swapped out narrow-body planes for wide-body aircraft on its Perth-Kuala Lumpur route.

The Malaysia-based airline began reducing Australian services from last Thursday by trimming weekly flights out of Sydney and Melbourne from nine to eight, with more adjustments to start in May.

“I’m happy with the serve, it really worked today,” the No.5 seed said. Rybakina won 83 per cent of first-serve points during the match, eclipsing her WTA Tour-leading 74.9 per cent record at the four majors in 2025.

Tennis, WTA – Australian Open 2026: Rybakina takes out Juvan

Elena Rybakina extended her flawless opening-round record at the Australian Open on Tuesday, moving to 7-0 in Melbourne starters with a clinical 6-4, 6-3 victory over Kaja Juvan. The world number 5, who reached the final here in 2023, required just over an hour to secure her place in the second round, signaling a continuation of the devastating form that defined her late-season surge in 2025.

The victory serves as a confident opening statement for Rybakina’s title hunt. While Juvan offered resistance in the early stages of the first set, she was ultimately unable to cope with the relentless pace and depth of the Kazakh’s groundstrokes. Rybakina’s serve, widely considered the most effective weapon in women’s tennis, remained impenetrable during the critical moments of the second set, where she struck five aces and won over 75 percent of her first-serve points.
