Today’s Connections was very easy for me, but that’s because two of the groups were directly related to my nerdy interests. That may not be true of you.

Connections is the second-most popular NYT Games puzzle game outside of the main crossword itself, and an extremely fun, free offering that will get your brain moving every day. Play it right here.

The goal is to take a group of 16 words and find links between four pairs of four of them. They could be specific categories of terms, or they could be little world puzzles where words may come before or after them you need to figure out. And they get more complicated from there.

Today’s NYT Connections puzzle has a couple of straightforward categories hiding among some much messier wordplay. Compared to yesterday’s puzzle, today’s Connections feels less deceptive early on, although the purple category is still likely to divide players. There’s also a strong red herring running through the grid that can easily send you down the wrong path early on.

The purple category is likely to split opinion too. It’s one of those Connections groups that relies more on hearing the phrases out loud than interpreting the words directly, which means it either clicks immediately or feels completely absurd.

The completed board ran through four themed groups, giving regular players a full answer set to compare against their own streaks.

The toughest category was the movie set: Groundhog, Independence, The Longest and Training. Those four names sat alongside stove knob settings, potency and music theory concepts, making the purple group the most specific of the day’s answers and the easiest one to miss if you did not catch the pattern early.

CNET published hints and answers for NYT Connections puzzle No. 1,065 on Monday, May 11, giving players a full look at the day’s four-answer groupings before and after they played. The coverage broke down the puzzle’s categories, including a purple set that asked solvers to hunt inside other words for hidden body parts.
