Timberwolves' rim attack faces its first major test against Heat's loaded frontcourt

The new-look Minnesota Timberwolves offense should have no issue burying teams with a barrage of 3-pointers or outrunning opponents in transition. Rim attacking could be slightly hit-or-miss depending on how the opponents' rim protection is.

Unfortunately for the Wolves, the Miami Heat had a busy offseason too, acquiring two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. Pairing him with All-Star big man Bam Adebayo creates one of the most fearsome defensive frontcourts in the league, one that will pose a challenge for the Wolves on opening day.

The Wolves weren't awesome against the Detroit Pistons' physicality during the preseason, and tonight will test whether that was just preseason or a potential issue with the roster.

The darkly funny Phony gives the doppelganger-mom genre the series-length treatment

A kid wakes up one day to discover that his mother has been replaced by a doppelganger. It’s a surprisingly common premise in horror; the Austrian film Goodnight Mommy and its 2022 American remake come to mind, though perhaps most relevant is the recent Jessica Chastain vehicle Other Mommy, itself an adaptation of the 2024 novel Incidents Around The House. And now Hulu is dropping a series-length exploration of the same basic idea with Phony.

What sets Phony apart, for one, is the age of its hero. Unlike the frightened children from the aforementioned stories, Sonny Cooke (Sam Nivola) is a teenager. He’s on his way to have sex with his girlfriend for the first time when he crashes his car into the woods. When he wakes up in the hospital, he’s greeted by friends and his adoring mother/school principal—except Ellen (Connie Britton, making for a cross-seasonal White Lotus reunion) looks ever so slightly different now. Nobody else clocks the change at first, but Sonny knows there’s something off about her, a suspicion confirmed when she fails to return one of his signature unspoken acts of affection. So he sets out to figure out what happened to his real mom, all the while leery of what this impostor wants from him.

The gothic action-horror movie focusing on a centuries-long battle between vampires and werewolves, Underworld, was released on September 19, 2003. The Kate Beckinsale film became a hit as it brought in more than $95.7 million at the worldwide box office on an estimated $22 million budget, according to IMDb. That success led to the film spawning a major franchise consisting of five movies, novels, comics, a short film, and more.

Kate Beckinsale's Underworld franchise, which catapulted her from an indie darling status to Hollywood star, celebrates its 23rd anniversary.

Before her horror movie was released in theaters on September 19, 2003, Beckinsale had never thrown a punch or picked up a fake prop gun. Hollywood had already typecast the British actress as an indie darling, thanks to her romantic comedy, The Last Days of Disco. New Today Show hosts named to replace Karl and Sarah

Channel Nine has announced presenters Sylvia Jeffreys and Tom Steinfort will step into the permanent roles of Today Show hosts as the network replaces the departed Karl Stefanovic and outgoing Sarah Abo.

Abo has been on maternity leave since mid-July, and had been steering the program alongside a series of guest co-hosts since Stefanovic was axed in June over his increasingly right-wing views and divisive podcast outside of his TV duties.

Jeffreys will take the reins from Abo when she permanently departs at the end of 2026, while Steinfort will replace Stefanovic.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be stepping in to cover Sarah’s parental leave, and then permanently with the show in 2027 and onwards,” Jeffreys beamed.

The Today show has officially farewelled Sarah Abo after announcing she will conclude her time as co-host and depart the network at the end of this year.

The beloved host, 39, who is currently on maternity leave, will leave to pursue other opportunities. She was farewelled from the program on Thursday.

Co-host Sarah Abo has confirmed she is leaving the Today show.

In a statement on Wednesday, Abo said: “Words can’t express how grateful I am to our viewers for letting me into your homes to be part of your morning routine. Without you, there is no Today show.

“Together with 60 Minutes, I’ve spent my time at Nine chasing stories, travelling and reporting from all over the world, interviewing some incredible and inspiring people from all walks of life.”

Abo, who has been on maternity leave since July, made her announcement the day before Nine’s upfronts event, at which the broadcaster – which owns this masthead – traditionally unveils its 2027 line-up. It has long been speculated that Nine would announce its new Today show line-up at the event, and rumours have swirled that either Samantha Armytage or Sylvia Jeffreys could join the program, along with Tom Steinfort.
