Sydney Sweeney under fire for ‘sexualising women’s sport’ in sports prediction ad

âA kick in the face,â says Olympic champion swimmer Ariarne Titmus

Olympic athletes have come out in force to condemn a sports betting advert featuring actor Sydney Sweeney in various states of undress, while showcasing the real skill, strength and beauty of womenâs sport.

The campaign, for US sports prediction market company Novig, depicts Sweeney in minimal to no clothing while she pretends to play several different sports.

It has been widely criticised for sexualising womenâs sport, with retired Olympic swimmer Ariarne Titmus saying she thought this type of âbullshitâ marketing was a thing of the past.

âI canât describe how infuriated I feel when I watch this,â the four-time Olympic gold medallist wrote on Instagram.

In the advertisement, Sweeney appears mostly in the nude while mock playing a number of sports.

Swimming great Ariarne Titmus was one of a number of female athletes who called out the ad and the actress for setting back women in sport.

Dozens of athletes have taken aim at a highly sexualised advertisement for a betting company featuring actress Sydney Sweeney, accusing it of belittling women in sport.

Nigel Farage is under mounting pressure to provide evidence for his claim that a state-sponsored Russian hack was behind the disclosure of the £5m gift he received from the crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne.

Reform UK claimed over the weekend that analysis of Farage’s phone by “counter-espionage experts” suggested that “Farage’s phone, email and bank accounts were compromised by hostile actors, almost certainly linked to Moscow, using spear phishing tactics”, before the Guardian revealed details of his undeclared gift last month.

Farage told the Mail on Sunday that the alleged Russian activity was “deeply concerning” and highlighted the “threat they pose to British security”.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage failed to pay a debt of £9,400 and had a County Court judgment imposed against him in 2024.
