Doctors' union concerned by nurses' behaviour at SA health service

The doctors' union, SASMOA, has raised concerns about the behaviour of some staff at Gawler Health Service. (ABC News)

South Australia's doctors' union says it is concerned "patient care is being jeopardised" because of alleged behavioural problems at the Gawler Health Service.

The nurses' union says it has has not identified any evidence "indicating systemic bullying by nursing staff".

The Barossa Hills Fleurieu Local Health Network, which covers the Gawler Health Service, says it is investing in steps to support employees and strengthen workplace culture.

A patient's clinical care plan was allegedly blocked by a health service manager against the advice of specialists at a facility north of Adelaide, a report by the South Australian doctors' union claims.

Doctors’ union flags conduct concerns at Gawler Health Service

According to ABC News, South Australia’s doctors’ union has raised concerns that alleged behavioural problems at Gawler Health Service could jeopardise patient care. The SA Salaried Medical Officers Association (SASMOA) submitted a report to SafeWork SA detailing concerns about workplace culture, including allegations of bullying, harassment and disrespectful behaviour by some nursing staff.

The report stressed that not all nursing staff were accused of the conduct. It said doctors had been left anxious and distressed, with concerns about professional liability and patient care. Among the incidents described was an allegation that a nurse snatched a mobile computer station from a doctor during a patient admission. The report also said the possible demotion of a senior doctor was openly discussed with colleagues without that doctor’s knowledge or consent.

The union is no longer acting for us teachers. I’m part of the 58 per cent who voted No

This morning, the Australian Education Union’s leadership was blindsided by the rejection of the in-principle agreement they struck with the Allan government. As a teacher in a public secondary school, with a daughter in a public primary school, the strength of the No vote was not a surprise at all.

The offer simply does not address the low pay and crushing workload that are driving teachers out of the profession and undermining the high-quality education Victorian students need and deserve.

We were told the pay rise would make us the best-paid teachers in Australia – despite leaving us well behind our colleagues in Western Australia. Even the more limited claim that we would catch up to NSW was fudged; all but two classifications would remain thousands of dollars behind, year after year. In real terms, the offer would barely bring us back to our 2021 salaries by 2030.

Union won't rule out more strikes as Victorian teachers reject pay offer

Negotiations will resume after teachers have rejected the Victorian government's pay rise offer of up to 32 per cent. (ABC News: Danielle Bonica)

Victorian state school teachers have voted to reject a 28 to 32 per cent pay rise, despite their union reaching an in-principle agreement with the state government.

The Australian Education Union last month said it had secured a four-year agreement that included more student-free days, but teachers had been seeking a three-year agreement.

The union says it will likely have to return to the negotiating table with the government, and will not rule out the possibility of further strike action.

Victorian teachers reject 28pc wage deal in shock vote

Victorian teachers have rejected the Allan government’s 28 per cent pay rise offer in a shock decision that opens the door to strikes and school shutdowns in the lead-up to the state election in five months’ time.

Up to 60,000 Australian Education Union members voted 57.7 per cent against the proposed agreement, which Premier Jacinta Allan had trumpeted as making Victorian teachers the best paid in the country. Just 42.3 per cent voted in favour of the deal.

    Matchday in focus: Union Berlin

We shine the spotlight on the club from the capital, who are in mid-table both in terms of the league standings as well as goals scored and conceded.

Steffen Baumgart tends to employ a 3-4-2-1 formation, with the Union head coach claiming of his team that “the boys thrive on putting in the hard yards and always wanting more”.

Former Eintracht goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow is Union’s No.1 between the posts and has played in all 20 of the side’s Bundesliga matches so far this term, conceding 33 goals. Baumgart will have to reshuffle his three-man backline though, owing to an injury to Diogo Leite.

Union slams ANZ over job cuts

Finance Sector Union (FSU) condemned ANZ’s decision to axe 66 jobs across multiple Suncorp bank divisions, including business banking and home lending.

ANZ confirmed that 197 roles at Suncorp Bank will be impacted by its changes, with 66 workers expecting to lose their jobs, with the majority of these roles being based in Brisbane.

In September statement last year, ANZ said that approximately 3,500 employees would “depart” the group by September 2026.

ANZ had made a number of commitments to the Queensland and federal governments – this included no net job losses in Australia as a direct result of the acquisition for a three-year period – concluding mid-2027.

Commonwealth Bank has been accused of “essentially calling it quits” on its West Australian subsidiary, following the revelation new workers would no longer be employed under the Bankwest entity.

The Financial Sector Union has also flagged CBA’s plans to combine the Bankwest enterprise agreement with the agreement covering the national workforce, which it warned would put the working conditions of 1400 staff at risk.
