Waalitj Marawar pushed ladder-leading Collingwood all the way when the sides last met at Marvel Stadium, taking an eight-point lead into half-time on the back of strong pressure and work rate. Led by Liam Baker, Brady Hough and co-captain Liam Duggan, the Eagles challenged the Pies throughout but were unable to halt their surge around stoppages as the experience and class of Collingwood saw the game slip away in the second half, resulting in a 29-point defeat.

VFL report card: How every AFL Blue performed in VFL Round 7

Damian Truslove speaks on the performances of every AFL-listed Blue in VFL Round 7.

VFL Senior Coach Damian Truslove analyses the performances of the 17 AFL-listed Blues who featured for the Carlton Reserves in Round 7 VFL action.

‘Fog’ started the game with a bit of time inside as well as at half-forward, before he predominantly played forward in the second half. He had really good defensive patterns and he finished off his work with his skill execution in the front half.

Another really strong performance from Blake. He spent the majority of the game on the wing, before late in the last quarter playing a little bit of time across half-back. He found plenty of the ball and used it well, while his patterns to support our team defence were outstanding.

VFL Round 7 | Blues hand Casey a tough loss

The Casey Demons have suffered a 122-point loss to a firing Blues side.

The Dees started the game with intensity, but their inability to capitalise on early opportunities quickly proved costly. Casey created chances to put scoreboard pressure on the Blues in the opening term, however inaccurate finishing allowed Carlton to stay in control before eventually taking over the contest.

From there, the game began to slip away from the Dees as the Blues dominated territory and controlled play across the final three quarters. Casey struggled to slow Carlton’s ball movement and found it difficult to generate any sustained momentum, with repeated turnovers and missed opportunities halting any chance of a fightback.

    REVIEW: Smithy's VFL Round 7

Round 7 produced several statement-making performances, a major upset and the season’s first draw

Round 7 produced several statement-making performances, a major upset and the season’s first draw.

Carlton produced a statement performance to jump into the top four for the first time this season, thrashing the Casey Demons by 122 points at Casey Fields. Leading by just five points at quarter time, the Blues piled on 21 goals to one across the final three quarters. It was the first time since Round 12, 2025 that Carlton had kicked more than 100 points in a VFL game and the highest score produced by the club since Round 11, 2015 when they were the Northern Blues. The result was also in great contract to the club’s last trip to Casey Fields, when they were thrashed by 108 points in Round 17 last year. Carlton’s dominant display came from a wide range of contributors, led by Blake Acres who amassed 31 disposals at 87% efficiency as well as eight marks, seven intercepts and two goals. Darcy Hogg was also terrific with 28 touches, six inside 50s and three goals, while Wade Derksen led the way up forward with a season-high five majors. Lewis Young stood tall in defence and had 16 marks, three of those contested. Trent Rivers (29 disposals, nine intercepts) and Tom McDonald (22 disposals, eight intercepts) were among the home side’s better players on a tough day.

VFL Match report: Fast-finishing Footscray fall short against Hawks

Bulldogs leave it too late as Box Hill get the better of pre-season clash

A fast-finishing Footscray have fallen frustratingly short of Box Hill in their second practice match ahead of the 2026 VFL Season.

On a humid afternoon at Mission Whitten Oval, the Dogs would feel the sting of early missed opportunities falling two-points short of the Hawks.

It was a strong display from the Dogs AFL-listed talent of Harvey Gallagher, Laith Vandermeer and Jed Busslinger while Dan Orgill and Cooper Craig-Peters were standouts in the midfield.

A slow start from Footscray as Box Hill dominated much of the play and made the most of their opportunities in front of goal.
