TATENDA CHIBIKA, REPORTER: From the handing back of traditional lands, to speeches recognising past injustices.

PAUL KEATING, FORMER PRIME MINISTER: We took the traditional lands and smashed the traditional way of life.

KEVIN RUDD, FORMER PRIME MINISTER: On behalf of the Government of Australia, I am sorry.

PERSON: I'm sure we can walk that road towards true reconciliation.

…and small gatherings too. These are just some of the moments in our country's history where First Nations and non-Indigenous people have come together and tried to right the wrongs of the past. This is what Reconciliation Week is all about. It's a chance for Australians to learn, share, celebrate, acknowledge the past and look to the future.

Greyhound track approved last week may never host races

Orange's former horse trotting track has been given approval to be redeveloped into a greyhound racing facility. (ABC Central West: Xanthe Gregory)

A $15 million plan to turn Orange's disused trotting track into a greyhound course was approved by a planning panel last week, despite community and council opposition.

Greyhound Racing NSW says it may not register the new track, citing falling breeding rates, commercial viability and sustainability concerns.

Greyhound Racing New South Wales has warned that a newly approved track in the state's Central West is unlikely to receive registration due to challenges facing the sport.

The $15 million "Centre of Excellence" in Orange was approved by the state government's Western Regional Planning Panel (WRPP) on April 21.

A fresh threat has emerged that could derail the possibility of greyhound racing happening in Orange.

On April 21, the Western Region Planning Panel unanimously granted development approval for a greyhound racing track to be built at 32 Perc Griffith Way.

It was this decision which led many to believe that greyhounds would soon be racing in Orange once more.

But less than a week after that monumental decision, the CEO of Greyhound Racing NSW put out a message which could signal the project's demise.

Secret Garden to Outcome: the week in rave reviews

David Attenborough celebrates the natural magic occurring close to home, and Keanu Reeves stars in Jonah Hill’s meta comedy-drama. Here’s the pick of the week’s culture, taken from the Guardian’s best-rated reviews

Summed up in a sentence Ahead of his 100th birthday, David Attenborough presents a sparkling series about his love of wildlife in our British back gardens. What our reviewer said “Despite the animals concerned being familiar old friends, the programme tells the sort of thrilling stories of predation and survival, mating and nesting, that we’re used to when Attenborough is in Africa or Asia.” Jack Seale

'Attenborough made a documentary about my garden'

A woman whose urban garden has featured in a new documentary series by David Attenborough says seeing the variety of wildlife up close was "extraordinary".

Louise Vergette's home in Bristol featured on episode two of Secret Garden on 5 April. The BBC series is narrated by Sir David Attenborough, who turns 100 in May.

Though Vergette did not get to meet "the icon" himself, she said hearing Attenborough refer to her by name "sounded like we were mates".

What emerges in the episode is a garden functioning not simply as a refuge from city streets, but as part of a wider urban ecosystem supporting diverse species.

David Attenborough’s Wild London highlights hidden city nature before turning 100

David Attenborough’s Wild London just revealed what millions of city dwellers miss daily. At 99 years old, the legendary broadcaster brought his entire sense of wonder to his hometown, revealing 400 species living in plain sight before he turns 100 on May 8.

Sir David Attenborough spent 70 years circling the globe documenting mountain gorillas, blue whales, and Australia’s lyrebird. Now, at the threshold of his 100th birthday, he’s discovered that his greatest natural spectacles were waiting on his doorstep. Wild London transforms the mundane into the miraculous, proving that adaptation and wonder thrive where concrete meets nature.

The BBC One special captures intimate moments of Attenborough lying flat on summer grass, waiting in allotments, cradling newborn animals. His voice cracks with emotion as he holds a four-week-old peregrine falcon chick, whispering, ‘Now we can recognise you anywhere, yes, yes you.’ It’s tenderness that defines his legacy.

Image of the week: Cyclone Horacio

Cyclone Horacio is a powerful cyclone in the southern Indian Ocean with sustained winds estimated at 175 kmh (95 knots) and gusts of over 200kmh.

Situated far to the east of Madagascar the cyclone is expected to move south and weaken (24/02/26).

The progression of the storm can be followed every ten minutes on EUMETView.

The main image was captured by the FCI instrument onboard the Meteosat-12 geostationary weather satellite on 23 February 2026.

The Meteosat weather satellites provide imagery for the early detection of fast-developing severe weather, weather forecasting and climate monitoring.

This week’s image is of Saharan dust moving west across the Atlantic Ocean.

World’s first Category 5 cyclone of 2026 forms in Indian Ocean

Tropical Cyclone Horacio intensified into the world’s first Category 5 tropical cyclone of 2026 on Monday afternoon, February 23, reaching maximum sustained winds of 160 mph (260 km/h) over the open waters of the remote South Indian Ocean.

Horacio strengthened rapidly under favorable environmental conditions, including warm sea surface temperatures of 27–28 degrees Celsius (81–82°F) and moderate wind shear. These factors supported the storm’s intensification to the highest level on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale, News.Az reports, citing foreign media.

According to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, Horacio has likely reached its peak intensity. Forecasters expect the cyclone to gradually weaken as it tracks southward over cooler waters and encounters stronger wind shear.

Popstar touches down for week of ‘unapologetic’ parties

Global pop superstar Kesha has touched down in Sydney, turning heads in a sparkly Playboy singlet as she geared up to headline the Australian-first Mighty Hoopla festival on Saturday night before launching into her Tits Out Australian tour.

The annual outdoor music festival — Europe’s largest LGBTQ+ event normally held in London — has made its way to Bondi Beach for one glitter-filled night.

Festival-goers will also be treated to performances from Becky Hill, Countess Luann, Delta Goodrem and Jessica Mauboy.

After the Hoopla, the TiK ToK singer will kick off her national tour, performing in Melbourne on Sunday, Adelaide on Tuesday, and finishing at Perth’s HPC in Mt Claremont for a sold-out show on Thursday.

Review: Kesha @ The Riverstage (Brisbane)

Occasionally as a show approaches, concertgoers can detect indications it will be one to remember.

Last night (19 February) was certainly one of those shows as Kesha returned to Australia, bringing The T!ts Out tour down under after a seven-year absence from our shores. Brisbane and Perth are sold out, while Melbourne had to be upgraded to a much larger venue to satisfy her fans.

The first thing to state upfront. The vast majority of the crowd comprised youthful females, and there were many humorous takes on the tour name (on t-shirts, sunglasses and in various other ways). Kesha clearly appeals to this group, and anyone with a teenage daughter will have been exposed to her music (like I have!).

Live Review: A liberated Kesha self-celebrates on her Tits Out Tour – Brisbane Riverstage (19.2.26)

There are pop tours that feel like victory laps – and then there are the ones that feel like reclamations. On the opening night of her Australian Tits Out Tour in Brisbane, Kesha’s return to the stage felt firmly like the latter: messy in places, minimal in production, emotionally raw – and undeniably hers.

The night began with Australian electro trio Blusher, whose brand of rave-ready, synth-soaked euphoric pop was an apt tonal warm-up for what was to come. Their set pulsed with energy, all neon rush and dancefloor build-ups, though at times the backing tracks overpowered whatever live vocals may have been there. There were even moments where the crowd noise embedded in the audio mix sounded suspiciously inflated, as if enthusiasm had been sweetened in post.

The bustle of the 2026 trade deadline is officially behind us as we look ahead to the NBA All-Star Weekend.

Expect the stars to show up in Los Angeles for a revamped format as three teams, made up of American players and international players, go head-to-head in another tournament-style competition.

A few new faces have been added to the coveted rosters, including Jamal Murray and Chet Holmgren, while other household names like Kevin Durant and LeBron James add another All-Star accolade to their résumés.

After the All-Star break, teams will look to reset, strategizing for the last three months of the regular season to figure out what it takes to clinch a spot in the postseason or guarantee a chance in the lottery.
