    ‘He would wind her up’: Democratic anger at Haley Stevens’ fiancé boils over after her endorsement reversal

    Late last fall, Haley Stevens decided to get off social media.

    The Michigan congresswoman told staffers working on her Democratic Senate campaign to send her important news — but she didn’t need to be distracted by mean-spirited comments about her appearance or mannerisms.

    But Jason Turkish, a lawyer and donor who staffers at the time thought was an overly involved friend, didn’t get the message.

    According to three people who worked on her campaign, Turkish — who became Stevens’ fiancé this spring — frequently sent Stevens comments about her that he’d found on social media. Posts mocking her looks, her speaking cadence, her positions on issues, including her support for Israel — all of it ended up in Stevens’ text messages, those people said.

    GOP touts Stevens' endorsement of Republican rival while El-Sayed's campaign reports a record haul

    Dems say Stevens' "betrayal" marks the end of her career in the party.

    As Republicans touted Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens' 11th-hour endorsement of GOP Michigan U.S. Senate candidate Mike Rogers, Democrats downplayed its impact and pointed to the fundraising surge it generated for Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed.

    President Donald Trump called it an "act of bravery" and that it showed "great loyalty to Michigan." GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson said, "I think Haley did a heroic and important thing for the country."

    But El-Sayed's campaign said it brought in $2.4 million in the hours after Stevens' endorsement, its best-ever fundraising day.

    The Bureau of Meteorology says "severe thunderstorms" have brought heavy rains and damaging winds to Alice Springs.

    The Hilton DoubleTree is among the properties damaged, with parts of its roof collapsing in during the storm.

    The weather bureau says more storms are possible through the week and emergency services are urging locals to remain vigilant.

    Thousands of homes are without power after a surprise storm brought wind speeds of almost 100km/h to Central Australia, pulling down trees and damaging properties.

    NT Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Large Hail, Damaging Winds

    For people in parts of Simpson and Lasseter districts.

    Severe storms with damaging winds and large hail have developed
    over the southern NT.

    Weather Situation: A surface trough coincides with a warm and
    unstable airmass in southern parts of the Territory, which has
    resulted in the development of severe thunderstorms. Severe storms
    are moving to the east and southeast and are likely to persist
    throughout the afternoon.

    Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and
    large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours.
    Locations which may be affected include Hermannsburg, Santa Teresa
    and Titjikala.

    The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people
    should:
    * secure loose outside objects
    * ensure pets and animals are safe
    * avoid remaining in the open when storms threaten
    * pull over if it is raining heavily and you cannot see, park with
    your hazard lights on until the rain clears
    * avoid driving into water of unknown depth and current
    * for emergency help in floods, storms and cyclones, contact the

    Weather Situation: Northerly winds bring an influx of moisture to
    the central NT, which combined with instability to the east of a
    weak surface trough will promote the development of isolated severe
    thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.

    Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the
    warning area about the southeast Tanami over the next several
    hours.

    The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people
    should:

    The RFS has confirmed up to four homes have been lost to the Bulahdelah fire on the New South Wales Mid North Coast.

    NSW is experiencing a dangerous bushfire day with total fire bans and severe heatwave warnings across the state.

    The Bureau of Meteorology says gusty winds and intense heat with possible thunderstorms are forecast.

    The RFS has confirmed up to four homes have been lost in the Bulahdelah fire on the New South Wales Mid North Coast.

    Major Fire Update Details

    A bush fire is burning south of Booral Road and on both sides of the Pacific Highway. The fire is over 2685 hectares and is not yet controlled.

    Smoke drifted across the Lower Hunter, Central Coast and south to Sydney overnight, this smoke is expected to clear as the winds increase through the morning.

    The next update on this fire will be issued by 06/12/2025 16:00 or if the situation changes.
