Caitlin Foord ends her 150th match with a win and a goal as the hosts deliver a much improved performance against an attacking Mexico

Carpenter, who notched up her 100th appearance in green and gold in the first game, says she is sorry for blocking Kennedy’s shot in the second half. Kennedy (and Kerr for that matter) could not keep a straight face as Carpenter writhed in pain on the grass.

double quotation markWe had a lot to work on from the last game. Obviously had to work out how to beat their press … I think we dealt with that tonight most of the time, still some shaky moments there but that’s what friendlies are for.

Matildas v Mexico LIVE updates: Australia take on Mexico at CommBank Stadium in friendly

Allegedly. For now. Once the ads are over I should be able to bring you some post-match reaction.

Here we go … Foord is being interviewed and says “it’s very special” to top off her 150th international appearance with a goal. “I just picked the far corner,” she continues. “It could have been a pen as well, but I stayed on my feet and put it in the far corner.”

The worldwide web informs me that the final whistle has blown and the score is still 3-1. I hope I didn’t miss much.

The broadcast camera cuts to Australia’s bench, where everyone except Kerr has a blanket covering their legs. Kerr don’t feel the cold. I’m about to type something about Mexico still feeling the heat when my stream drops out. The wheel of death is my demise. What is happening out there?

Welcome to Sportstar’s live coverage of India Women’s first warm-up fixture ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup against West Indies. This is Lavanya Lakshmi Narayanan and I will keep you company through the game today.

Richa Ghosh has been brought in, Yastika has been retired out. Fletcher with her third over. GONE! That move hasn’t worked in India’s favour as Richa gets the top edge and holes out to fine leg fielder.

Radha Yadav, who didn’t get a game in the England series, comes in. GONE! Radha too walks back! Fletcher really doing wonders with the ball here! Radha not happy with that dismissal.

India Begin Final World Cup Preparations in Cardiff as Richa Ghosh, Deepti Sharma and Bowlers Impress in Intense Training Session

India’s final stretch of preparation for the Women’s World Cup is officially underway.

Just two days after concluding the T20I series against England, the Indian squad returned to work in Cardiff on Thursday for what was their first full training session before the tournament starts. With practice scheduled over the next few days and warm-up matches to follow on 8 and 10 June, the team has entered the crucial final phase of its World Cup build-up.

The session was characterised by intensity and involvement across the entire squad. Every player spent time either batting, bowling or fielding as the coaching staff sought to maximise preparation before the team shifts base to Birmingham after the second warm-up fixture.

West Indies Women vs India Women Playing 11: India Women will play West Indies Women in a warm-up match for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup. The game is scheduled for June 8 in Cardiff. Both teams aim to finalize strategies and player form. India boasts a strong batting lineup, while West Indies relies on experienced players. Weather conditions may impact the match.

India's opening pair of Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana remains one of the most aggressive combinations in women's cricket.

Yastika Bhatia is expected to provide stability in the top order, while Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues strengthen the middle order. Deepti Sharma's all-round skills and the pace options led by Arundhati Reddy and Kranti Gaud could be key factors.

After some dips in form, Iga Swiatek is feeling confident again as she is playing sensational tennis at a tournament she has had plenty of success at. That has been evident having only dropped a combined total of six games to Naomi Osaka and Jessica Pegula in her last two rounds and now chases more Italian triumphs in her bid to reach the final. Standing in her way is another player who has had previous success in Rome in the form of Elina Svitolina who saved 16 break points to defeat Elena Rybakina to set up an Indian Wells rematch with the Pole.

U of Washington women's soccer team played a high school boys squad, and you'll never guess who won | OutKick

Former division one athlete Adriana McLamb discusses the fight for fairness in women's sports.

The argument that men belong in women's sports took another shocking blow last week when the University of Washington's women's soccer team had a match against a men's team.

Well, not a men's team, per se. It was an under-14 boys soccer team.

Surely, the Division I power-conference team full of grown college women was able to easily dispatch a team filled with barely pubescent boys who don't even have their learners' permits, right?

University Of Washington Women's Soccer Team Loses Preseason Scrimmage To A Group Of 14-Year-Old Boys

Washington finished as the sixth-ranked team in women’s college soccer last season after an impressive run to the Elite Eight. The Huskies lost to a group of 14-year-old boys in their most recent scrimmage.

This is not the first time we have seen this kind of lopsided age gap victory in women’s soccer, nor will it be the last. That doesn’t make the result any less eye-opening.

The University of Washington announced the addition of women’s soccer in December, 1990. It played its first full season that next fall in 1991. Since then, the Huskies have made the NCAA Tournament 18 times. They made six Round of 16 appearances over the last 34 years with three runs to quarterfinals. They also won one regular season conference championship and one conference tournament title.

The University of Washington women’s soccer team recently dropped a preseason scrimmage to a group of 14-year-old boys, a result that stands out given the program just completed the best season in its history. The Huskies reached the Elite Eight last year after upsetting the No. 1 seed Virginia in the Sweet 16.

Manchester City 1-0 Liverpool: Women’s Super League – as it happened

Rebecca Knaak scored a late winner against Liverpool to fire Manchester City to edge them closer to the WSL title

That’s all from me today. I’ll leave you with the match report…

In the other match, Tottenham earned a 2-1 win over London City Lionesses. Signe Gaupset and Olivia Holdt both scored in the first half to give Spurs a fairly comfortable lead before Alanna Kennedy netted a late consolation.

Manchester City winger Lauren Hemp tells Sky Sports: “Liverpool were very good, they caused us a lot of problems, especially at the start.

“We were pushing in the second half, we took the level up massively, we were creating so many chances and in the end, we deserved it.

Man City 1-0 Liverpool: Rebecca Knaak's late goal puts hosts on verge of WSL title

Match report and free match highlights as Rebecca Knaak's late header puts Manchester City on the verge of their first Women's Super League title in 10 years; they are six points clear of Chelsea in second and 11 of Arsenal, but the Gunners have three games in hand

Rebecca Knaak's late strike saw Manchester City beat Liverpool 1-0 and take a step closer to the WSL title.

Andree Jeglertz's side needed to bounce back after defeat to Brighton last weekend, and made hard work of their victory.

Liverpool goalkeeper Jennifer Falk had made a string of wonderful saves – particularly in the second half – but could not keep out Knaak's stooped header in added time.

Man City women's player ratings vs Liverpool: Rebecca Knaak, you hero! Late header secures huge win in WSL title race for nervous table-toppers

Manchester City's Women's Super League destiny remains in their hands after Rebecca Knaak delivered a priceless late winner to defeat Liverpool 1-0 on Sunday. It looked like the Cityzens were going to slip up again, thus taking the title out of their hands and opening the door for Arsenal to take advantage. But after chances were wasted by star names like Khadija Shaw and Kerolin, up came Knaak, from centre-back, in stoppage time to head home a goal that puts her side on the brink of a first league title in 10 years.

No team has ever boasted a larger lead at the top of the WSL than when City went 11 points clear in February, while no team has ever blown a seven-point advantage in the title race, but that has been chipped away at in recent weeks, with Andree Jeglertz's side having slipped up against Arsenal, Aston Villa and Brighton in a collapse that had the potential to be unlike any the competition has seen before.

A group of Australian families left the Al Roj camp in Syria last week. (ABC News: Baderkhan Ahmad)

Four Australian women, their children and grandchildren are stuck in limbo in Syria after leaving a refugee camp housing family members of suspected Islamic State fighters.

Last week the group left the Al Roj camp in north-east Syria with the goal of heading to the capital, Damascus, and flying home to Australia.

But after Syrian authorities said they prevented the group from reaching the airport because of strong rhetoric from the Australian government, it is unclear what their next moves will be.

Albanese says Australia has nothing to do with Syrian moves to turn back ISIS families from airport

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has denied reports Australia blocked the return of ISIS-linked families from Syria, even though they had acquired passports and plane tickets, saying his government had no contact at all “with these people” and were not working with the Syrian government.

“My government is not engaged. We are not participants with the Syrian Government. These are people who are Australian citizens,” he told SBS News. “They are reports not through the Australian Government because we are not in contact with these people.”

Addressing a press conference alongside the prime minister earlier on Thursday, Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke said some in the cohort would be “weighing up” their decision to return, over fears they would be arrested upon landing in Australia.
