2025/26 Paddy Power World Darts Championship – Day 16 latest

Luke Littler withstood a stirring fightback from Rob Cross to continue his bid for back-to-back Paddy Power World Darts Championship titles at Alexandra Palace on Monday.

Littler averaged almost 107 and crashed in a staggering seventeen 180s to triumph in a battle of the World Champions, as Littler and Ryan Searle became the first two players to reach the quarter-finals.

Reigning champion Littler took centre stage on Day 16, defying a late onslaught from 2017/18 World Champion Cross to maintain his title tilt.

Littler conceded his first set of the tournament as Cross levelled proceedings at one apiece, but the world number one produced an emphatic response, averaging 125 in set three to regain the lead.

Superstar's hopes for T20 World Cup still alive

Coach indicates squad for tournament could be announced in the coming days ahead of February's opener

Pat Cummins will be named in Australia's T20 World Cup squad next month with a scan in January to reveal whether or not he will be able to play as he continues to manage his back injury.

Cummins missed the first two Tests of the NRMA Insurance Ashes series with "bone stress" in his back before returning to help seal the urn with six wickets in Adelaide.

He was subsequently put on ice for the remaining two Tests with the series result decided and will now begin preparation for the 20-over tournament which is being jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February and March.

Tim David ruled out of the BBL season with hamstring injury but on track for T20 World Cup

Tim David has been ruled out of the BBL season but is still likely to be available for the T20 World Cup after injuring his hamstring on Boxing Day.

The big-hitting batter was on 42 from 28 deliveries as the Hobart Hurricanes looked to chase down the total of 150 set by the Perth Scorchers last Friday.

Just as he was getting into his groove, David pulled up lame after running a quick single and moments later, signalled for the Hurricanes physio to come out on the field.

Superstar ruled out of Big Bash as Cummins gamble revealed ahead of World Cup quest

Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins is set to undergo scans in four weeks to determine his availability for the upcoming T20 World Cup campaign in the subcontinent, head coach Andrew McDonald has confirmed.

Test captain Cummins has battled a back issue since returning from the West Indies tour in July, subsequently missing the first two matches of this summer’s Ashes series.

The 32-year-old returned for the third Test against England, taking six wickets at Adelaide Oval to help Australia retain the coveted Ashes urn, but he has since been wrapped in cotton wool, sidelined for the final two matches in Melbourne and Sydney.

An Island and a City Split in Two Since 1974: What Really Lies Behind Cyprus's Mysterious "Green Line"?

A war-scarred no man’s land in Cyprus has quietly transformed into a lush wildlife refuge—guarded by UN troops and off-limits to nearly everyone. Forgotten villages, silent airports, and minefields now shelter rare species in a place frozen in time.

In the eastern Mediterranean, where geopolitical flashpoints often burn hot, a narrow strip of land has remained suspended in time. The green line, a 180-kilometer buffer zone bisecting Cyprus, was forged in 1974 during the island’s violent division. Today, it’s emerging as something no one predicted: a biodiversity haven.

What began as a ceasefire corridor now teems with life. Once-abandoned villages are overrun with native plants, and animals rarely seen elsewhere on the island have reappeared. Amid the razor wire and rusting watchtowers, Cyprus mouflons—wild sheep with striking curved horns—roam freely. Rare birds nest in the skeletons of war-era buildings. What was meant to divide is now doing something far more unexpected: it’s connecting.

What World Cup qualifiers are today? UEFA schedule, times, how to watch

A dozen World Cup 2026 spots will be secured in the coming days as nine berths in UEFA and three in Concacaf will be decided in the next three days.

Only three spots in Europe have been secured, as Croatia, England and France have won their respective groups.

Both Africa and Asia are in playoffs for potential World Cup spots. In Africa, Nigeria plays DR Congo on Nov. 16 for a spot in a six-team intercontinental playoff. In Asia, Iraq and the United Arab Emirates are facing off in a two-legged tie on Nov. 13 (a 1-1 tie) and Nov. 18 for a spot in the intercontinental playoff. The intercontinental playoff will take place in March 2026.

Sunday's World Cup Qualifier Tips: Back 6/1 Haaland in Milan & 5/1 Bruno to boost Portugal

World Cup qualifier best bets – Betfair expert Paul Higham has his top tips for Sunday's matches

Ireland's surprise win over Portugal means second place is up for grabs now as they head to Hungary as 10/3 outsiders but just a point behind the hosts. Technically, top spot is up for grabs for both sides if Cristiano Ronaldo-less Portugal somehow come unstuck at home against Armenia.

That's more the case for 17/20 home favourites Hungary who only need a draw, priced at 12/5, to claim second but if news comes through of a stalemate in Lisbon would then realise a win by a few goals could book their first World Cup appearance since 1986 – so this has potential to be a nervy ending.
