‘Tiger King’ star Joe Maldanado calls on Governor Polis to consider prisoner swap with Tina Peters
DENVER (KKTV) – A convicted felon who once appeared in a popular Netflix documentary said he has a proposal for Governor Polis.
Joe Maldanado, also known as ‘Joe Exotic,’ is serving federal prison time. He is urging the Colorado governor to consider a prison swap, as President Trump has said he wants former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters freed. Maldanado told our sister station he also wants clemency.
Maldanado is serving time in Texas, after a federal jury found him guilty of what the U.S. Attorney’s Office said was a murder-for-hire plot. His attorney has already called on the president to free him.

MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) – A letter penned by a well-known reality show star suggested an unlikely solution to the Tina Peters clemency saga.
“Tiger King” star Joe Exotic, real name Joseph Maldonado, sent a letter to Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, asking for “something that has never been done in American History.” He suggested in the letter, a copy of which was sent to WesternSlopeNow, that the governor and the Trump Administration work together to swap prisons for him and former Mesa County Clerk and Recorder Tina Peters.
Maldonado, who admitted the idea is crazy, said this would somehow allow Polis and the Trump administrator to switch clemencies between him and Peters.
