Daniel Craig's Best James Bond Replacement Returns This Week

Although it will be a while before Daniel Craig’s James Bond franchise replacement is announced, the best substitute for the iconic spy series returns to the small screen this week. It is a great time to be a fan of spy stories, although you wouldn’t necessarily know this by looking at the most famous franchise in the espionage genre. There hasn’t been a new James Bond movie since 2021’s No Time to Die, which infamously made the unprecedented move of killing off Daniel Craig’s version of 007.

Since then, spy stories have flourished on the small screen. There is Prime Video’s The Terminal List franchise, an adaptation of Jack Carr’s bestselling novel of the same name, the same streaming service’s Mr and Mrs Smith, and Netflix’s The Night Agent, along with a slew of other hits. While Prime Video’s Citadel franchise wasn’t the massive mainstream success the streaming service hoped for, Paramount+’s Taylor Sheridan series Special Ops: Lioness proves everyone is getting in on the genre’s small-screen resurgence.

James Bond Favorite Surges Ahead of Competition to Play Next 007 in Reboot

It has now been a near record-breaking five years since we last saw James Bond on the big screen, and while Amazon is now well underway on their upcoming reboot, we still do not know which actor will be chosen to wield a licence to kill. While such major names as Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy, and Idris Elba continue to be favorites among fans (spoiler alert, it won’t be any of them), a certain lesser-known star has seen his odds surge.

Rumors and speculation have been running rife for what feels like forever now, but we now finally know that James Bond 26 will be helmed by Dune and Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve, with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight writing the script. While plot details remain unknown, the idea of restarting the character with a new origin story is becoming increasingly likely, in part thanks to another Bond reboot, the video game hit 007 First Light.
