Breaking: ABC's Justin Stevens resigns as director of news
Justin Stevens, the ABC's director of news, has announced his resignation after 19 years with the organisation.
Mr Stevens said "for reasons both professional and personal" he believed it was "the right time" to move on from his role.
Donna Field, the ABC's current head of Regional, Rural and Metro News, will become acting news director.

Stevens said in a statement released today that his four years as director of news "have been incredibly tough but immensely rewarding".
"Having said that, for reasons both professional and personal, now is the right time for me to move on and for someone else to take over the helm of the best news team in the country," he said.

Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke said federal police would continue investigating the women with links to Islamic State who have returned to Australia.
“Of the two cohorts that have arrived in recent weeks, there are three [women] currently behind bars,” Burke said.

The ABC’s most senior news executive, Justin Stevens, has resigned after four years in the job, and the search for his replacement is already close to completion.
Stevens, the former executive producer of flagship current affairs program 7.30 and since 2022 director of news and current affairs, leaves the ABC on Wednesday after overseeing a period of vast change in Australia’s largest newsroom.
With just under 2000 staff in the news division, the role is the most scrutinised in the broadcaster outside of managing director Hugh Marks’ own position, overseeing news content published across the public broadcaster’s television, radio and digital platforms.
