Ach, Iâm back early with the news that Matteo Arnaldi has pulled out of his semi-final against Flavio Cobolli because of a âviral illnessâ. So yet another shock at this yearâs Roland Garros, though this one of a different nature to all the others. What an anti-climax for Arnaldi, for Italy and for the whole tournament. It would have been a first grand slam semi-final for Arnaldi and the first all-Italian menâs semi at any major.
Cobolli, sitting alongside Arnaldi, has given his reaction. âItâs tough for me to speak,â he says. âWhen he came to me [and told me] I almost cried. I didnât expect it at all. I was completely sad for him but at the same time Iâm really happy for my results this week. Matteo is a big inspiration, I wish him all the best.â

Flavio Cobolli is through to the French Open final after fellow Italian Matteo Arnaldi withdrew minutes before their semi-final with a virus.
The good friends were supposed to meet in the last four at 18:00 BST on Friday for a place in a first Grand Slam final.
However, Arnaldi's withdrawal was announced just 20 minutes before the players were due to step on Court Philippe Chatrier.
It puts world number 14 Cobolli straight through to Sunday's Roland Garros showpiece, where he will face second seed and title favourite Alexander Zverev.
