The Geelong skipper needs just four votes to move past Gary Ablett jnr as the highest-polling player the award has ever seen.
AFL.com.au's Brownlow Predictor has Dangerfield polling three votes for the season – one against Adelaide in round 13, and two against Brisbane in round 17 – which would put him on par with Ablett jnr.
But he's a proven vote getter and it would be no surprise if he snuck a few extra votes to stand alone at the top.

Patrick Dangerfield's illustrious AFL career has seen him reach yet another remarkable milestone, with Geelong's captain equalling Gary Ablett Junior for the most votes polled in Brownlow Medal history.
Receiving three votes at the AFL's night of nights on Monday, Dangerfield joined his former teammate and Cats great atop the leaderboard, taking his career tally to 262 votes which is the most of any player in the history of the award.
Geelong have plenty of representation near the top of the leaderboard for career totals at the Brownlow, with Dangerfield and Ablett Jnr occupying the top spot, while Joel Selwood is also within the top 10.

The Brownlow Medal record Geelong star could claim… but one he may lose
AFL superstar and Geelong captain Patrick Dangerfield is four Brownlow Medal votes away from eclipsing current record holder and former teammate Gary Ablett Jr.
Dangerfield is on 259 votes across his glittering career, which began in Adelaide before making the switch to the Cats ahead of the 2016 season.
It was that year the 'Danger' claimed the Brownlow Medal, and was on track to go back-to-back, albeit under suspension before Dustin Martin toppled the count.
Ablett Jnr (262 votes) won two Brownlows during his time – one at Geelong; one at Gold Coast – but arguably should've had more.
In 2007 he was surprisingly pipped by teammate Jimmy Bartel, and then again by Western Bulldogs Adam Cooney the following year.
