Strange New Worlds’ Worst Season Ends With A Reminder Of How Good Star Trek Fans Used To Have It

Strange New Worlds' fourth season has been something of a slog for fans. That's because the show spent most of the season doing bizarre gimmick episodes instead of more traditional sci-fi stories. Fortunately for the fans, the Season 4 finale "Tomorrow's Enterprise" provides everything they have been clamoring for: it's a serious story that leans on several beloved Star Trek tropes while building a definitive bridge to The Original Series. There's just one problem: "Tomorrow's Enterprise" is so good that it reminds us of just how painful this season has been.

"Tomorrow's Enterprise" has a provocative plot involving Uhura communicating with a different version of herself. This isn't someone from a parallel world, though: it's actually a version of Uhura from one year in the future. When Scotty unexpectedly dies, the two Uhuras bend all of time and space to save a man that they (surprisingly enough) have major feelings for. Eventually, they manage to bring the Enterprise's resident miracle worker back to life. Along the way, the episode provides a tantalizing glimpse of everything that changes between the end of Strange New Worlds and the beginning of The Original Series.
