Anthony Albanese was evacuated from his official Canberra residence on Tuesday night as police responded to a bomb threat.
The prime minister was moved from The Lodge to another location at about 6pm while an investigation was carried out. He was able to return after 9pm once a search had been completed.
An Australian federal police spokesperson said they were alerted to an alleged security incident at the property, near Parliament House.
Guardian Australia has been told it involved the threat of an explosive.
“A thorough search of a protection establishment was undertaken and nothing suspicious was located,” a statement said.

The incident at Mr Albanese's residence in Canberra sparked a significant police operation, and led to the prime minister being taken to another location for several hours.
The Australian Federal Police confirmed that at 6pm it responded to an "alleged security incident".
"A thorough search of a protection establishment was undertaken and nothing suspicious was located," the AFP said in a statement.
"There is no current threat to the community or public safety."

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was evacuated from his Canberra residence following a safety threat.
Australian Federal Police began responding to the alleged threat about 6pm on Tuesday.
Mr Albanese was sent to another location, away from his main, heavily guarded residence, for more than three hours. He returned home after 9pm.
"A thorough search of a protection establishment has commenced and is still ongoing," a statement from the AFP said earlier on Tuesday evening.
