The powerful heads of the Australian Council of Trade Unions, Sally McManus and Michele O'Neil, have announced their resignations.
Both women have held their roles in the peak body for the better part of a decade.
Their replacements are yet to be decided on, according to a statement from the ACTU.

Australia’s two top unionists will step down within months of each other, ending their tenure having won major labour-friendly changes to industrial law, witnessed declining union membership, and dealt with criminality in the CFMEU that led Sally McManus to temporarily leave her home state.
On Monday, the Australian Council of Trade Unions revealed its secretary, McManus, and president Michele O’Neil would exit before year’s end to “make way for a new generation of union leaders” and to “bring renewal” to the peak labour organisation.
The duo, who are the ACTU’s second-longest leadership team, will stagger their departures to manage the leadership transition, with McManus, 54, leaving at the end of August and O’Neil, 64, staying on until later this year.

Sally McManus arrived at the ACTU promising to shake things up. Nearly a decade later, she leaves having done exactly that – even if the movement remains smaller and confronting the same existential questions.
Her tenure will divide opinion because it contains two contradictory truths.
She was arguably the most politically effective ACTU secretary since Bill Kelty, overseeing a period in which organised labour enjoyed unfettered access to a federal government.
Yet she was unable to reverse the decades-long decline in union membership challenging the movement’s relevance.
McManus announced herself with a line that horrified conservatives and gave Labor heartburn. Asked in her first major television interview in 2017 whether workers should obey laws governing industrial action, she replied that she had no problem with breaking laws that were bad.
