Yemen’s Houthis report attack on Saudi oil tanker in Red Sea

Saudi shipping company Bahri confirmed its vessel was struck, all crew members safe.

The Houthis have claimed an attack on a ⁠Saudi oil tanker off the port city of Yanbu in the Red Sea.

The Yemeni armed group issued a statement on Monday detailing its strike on the “Amzan”, the latest targeting of Saudi assets by the Houthis in support of Iran, and heightening fears that the US-Israel war on Iran could escalate across the region.

A Houthi military spokesperson ⁠said the vessel belonging to Saudi national shipping company Bahri “was targeted off the coast of Yanbu in Saudi Arabia with a ballistic missile”.

Pies up for AFL Players' Awards

Multiple Magpies are in the running for a suite of AFL Players' Awards announced on Tuesday night.

Nick Daicos' bid for back-to-back AFL MVP trophies is the headline story out of the Club's nominations for the 2026 AFL Players Associations awards, set to be announced on Tuesday night's AFL Awards.

Daicos has been nominated alongside brother Josh and key defender Billy Frampton as the Pies' trio for the top gong, which recognises the best player in the league according to the current playing cohort.

Daicos took out the award in 2025 in what was his first Leigh Matthews Trophy.

His season averaging a league-high 34.9 disposals has him in strong contention, while his brother's season average of 27.2 touches and Frampton's breakout campaign have seen the pair also rewarded with recognition.

Host of Hawks in the running for AFLPA Awards

Jai Newcombe, James Sicily, Jarman Impey, Nick Watson, Jack Dalton and Josh Battle have all been nominated for various awards.

A host of Hawks have been nominated for a series of AFL Players’ Association Awards following stellar 2026 seasons.

Star defender Jarman Impey, electric forward Nick Watson and inspirational co-captain Jai Newcombe are in the mix to win the AFL Players’ Most Valuable Player Award.

Impey’s run off half-back powered the Hawks into attack throughout the year, with impressive averages of 23.6 disposals, seven marks and 4.5 rebound 50s telling the story of his success.

Watson has consistently turned heads inside 50 this season with his breakneck speed, mercurial goal sense and admirable courage, finishing with 55 majors from his 21 games in 2026.

An Australian woman who lost an arm after a shark attack at a beach in Sydneyâs eastern suburbs has recalled the moment she came face-to-face with the âmonsterâ.

Leah Stewart, a 34-year-old teacher and mother of a one-year-old daughter, was attacked by a large shark while on a morning swim at Coogee beach on 13 June.

She remained in a critical condition for more than two weeks while receiving treatment for life-threatening injuries that required the amputation of her arm.

An Australian woman bitten by a shark at a popular Sydney beach earlier this year says she has been given a "second chance at life" and will be making the most of it.

Leah Stewart, 34, was mauled by a shark during a morning swim at Coogee Beach in June, suffering multiple bites to her arms and legs, amid a spate of attacks in Australia.

The mother-of-one was placed in an induced coma and had several surgeries, including having one of her arms amputated.

In an online post on Monday, she thanked her supporters who have raised more than AU$550,000 (US$394,000; £289,000) for her, saying her recovery has been "incredibly difficult" but she is making "remarkable" progress.

There's bad news for fans of David Mitchell's BBC comedy Upstart Crow, as it looks as though there are no plans for any future series.

The programme first aired back in 2016 and starred the Ludwig actor as William Shakespeare, as the show followed the playwright's early career in London.

It also focused on his life with his family in Stratford-upon-Avon as actress Liza Tarbuck played his wife Anne Hathaway with Helen Monks, Sebastian Barker, Joe Willis and Rosanna Beacock playing his children.

While the programme was a huge hit with viewers, with it having a stage adaptation in 2020 and again in 2022, the TV series came to an end six years ago with a Christmas special.

Huge blow to David Mitchell as Ludwig star’s BBC show is axed after three series

David Mitchell has confirmed that his BAFTA-nominated BBC show has been axed after three seasons.

Upstart Crow is based on the life of William Shakespeare and sees the comedian play the famous bard as he writes and stages some of his most famous plays.

The sitcom, written by Blackadder co-writer Ben Elton, ran for three seasons and three Christmas specials.

It premiered in 2016 as part of the commemorations of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death.

However, the Peep Show star has revealed that the show, last on air in 2020, will not be returning for a fourth season, calling the decision a “shame”.

Jagga Smith has claimed the 2026 AFL Rising Star, becoming just the second Blue to win the award.

Only Collingwood’s Nick Daicos (60 votes) in 2022 has polled higher in a Rising Star count, with Smith following in Daicos’ footsteps as the second Oakleigh product to win the award.

Jagga Smith has been crowned the 2026 Telstra AFL Rising Star, receiving the Ron Evans Medal at tonight’s AFL Awards.

Smith won the award with 54 votes, ahead of teammate Harry Dean (39 votes), the West Coast Eagles’ Willem Duursma (29 votes) and North Melbourne’s Cooper Trembath (28 votes).

The 20-year-old received the Ron Evans Medal and $20,000 thanks to Telstra, after polling a maximum five votes from 10 of the 11-member All Australian panel.

Smith became only the second Carlton player to win the award, after Sam Walsh also polled 54 out of a possible 55 votes in 2019.

HAWTHORN star Nick Watson will be ready to take on Fremantle in a blockbuster qualifying final at Optus Stadium, with coach Sam Mitchell pleased that his game-breaking goalkicker was able to be managed late in Sunday's win against West Coast.
