Mike Preston, known for playing settler leader Pappagallo in “Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior” and Detective Bob Delaney in the Australian series “Homicide,” died June 8 in Florida. He was 93.

Preston, who was born Jack Davis, was an early U.K. chart-topping singer in the late ’50s with three Top 40 hits. He then relocated to Australia and began working as a nightclub singer and performer.
He found success hosting “In Melbourne Tonight,” before going on to appear in 42 episodes of the Australian series “Homicide.” He had a recurring role in the soap opera “Bellbird” and also appeared in “Dixon of Dock Green,” “Tandarra,” “Chopper Squad” and “Cop Shop.”

UK-born Preston had an eclectic career, as a boxer, cartoon cameraman, singer and, in Australia TV host and actor.
“Mr. Blue” peaked at No. 12 but he achieved three other Top 40 hits in the UK, including “Marry Me,” which reached No. 14 in 1961.
He relocated to Australia and began working as a nightclub singer and performer in the 1960s.
He was a regular host on In Melbourne Tonight, before 42 episodes of Homicide as Sen. Det. Bob Delaney from 1972 – 73.
