One dead, four injured after shooting in Sydney’s south-west

One man is dead and four others are in hospital after a shooting in Sydney’s south-west.

It is believed to be the latest instance of gangland violence amid ongoing conflict between organised crime groups.

“We don’t know the motive for the attack, but we certainly believe that it was a targeted attack,” NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon told 2GB on Wednesday.

Police were called to Liverpool Hospital about 8.30pm on Tuesday after two men, aged 28 and 32, presented with multiple wounds.

Despite treatment for a gunshot wound, the younger man died a short time later. The other man remains in a serious but stable condition with a neck injury, police said.

A man has died and four others have been seriously injured following a south-west Sydney shooting, which is believed to be organised crime-related.

Two men, aged 28 and 32, presented with multiple wounds to Liverpool Hospital at about 8:30pm on Tuesday, with police called to attend.

The 28-year-old underwent treatment for a gunshot injury, but died a short time later.

The other man remains in a stable condition with a neck injury.

Shortly after 8:40pm, another two men, aged 23 and 22, attended Fairfield Hospital in a serious condition.

Last week, William Paul, the son of Kentucky senator Rand Paul, approached the Republican congressman Mike Lawler at a bar in Washington, D.C., and began berating him. The subject of Paulâs tirade was a House primary in Kentucky where Ed Gallrein, a former Navy SEAL endorsed by President Donald Trump, is attempting to take out Thomas Massie, an iconoclastic libertarian and occasional Trump apostate. Massie, Paul said, is one of only two members of Congress who actually care about America (the other being Paulâs father), and his defeat would be the fault of Lawlerâs âpeople,â by which, it turned out, he meant âyou Jews.â When Lawler pointed out that he isnât Jewish, Paul said that he was âso sorry for calling you a Jew,â then continued to spew invective, advising Lawler, among other things, to âwatch more Tucker Carlson,â before giving him the middle finger, acknowledging, âIâm just really drunk,â then knocking over his barstool and stumbling out. (The scene unspooled in front of a reporter from the news site NOTUS. Paul has since apologized and said that he has an alcohol problem.)

Plex’s 200% Lifetime Pass price hike tries forcing users to another subscription

Plex says that it has considered getting rid of Lifetime Passes.

As of July 1, at 12:01 am UTC—or June 30 at 8:01 pm ET—people seeking access to Plex’s media server features through a one-time purchase will have to pay $750. That’s three times the current price of $250.

The new price will not affect current Lifetime Plex Pass holders.

A Lifetime Plex Pass allows you to stream from your own Plex Media Server to a device connected to your own network, to stream from the server remotely, and to allow others to stream remotely from your server.

When first launched in 2012, a Lifetime Plex Pass was $75. In 2014, Plex increased the price to $150 because “at 2.5x the price of a yearly, it was priced in an unsustainable way for us,” Plex said in a blog post at the time. Eventually, lifetime passes were available for $120 for years until March 2025, when the price skyrocketed to $250. That brings us to today’s announcement.

Roosters utility Connor Watson is set to join expansion side the PNG Chiefs in 2028 via a one year stint with the rebuilding St George Illawarra Dragons.

Sydney Roosters utility Connor Watson is set to join the PNG Chiefs via the St George Illawarra Dragons.

Watson, who toured the PNG Chiefs facilities in Port Moresby over the weekend and arrived back in Australia on Monday, is understood to have a two-year deal on the table from the club.

While he is contracted at the Roosters until at least the end of 2027, the club will not hold him to the final year of his deal if he can find a better option elsewhere.

The 2025 State of Origin player has struggled to find a permanent role at the tri-colours, bouncing around positions, and it's understood he is keen to head elsewhere.

Having already signed Jarome Luai and Alex Johnston, the PNG Chiefs have their next big-name recruit in their sights.

Following their loss to the Cowboys on Saturday, Roosters’ star Connor Watson and his partner Kiana were spotted at Port Moresby Airport with the club’s CEO, Lorna McPherson.

The utility comes out of contract at the end of next season, but was granted permission by the Roosters to speak with rival clubs before November 1 after Reece Robson became the club's starting hooker.

The 29-year-old, who has played for NSW on five occasions, has also been rumoured with the St. George Illawarra Dragons, Manly Sea Eagles and the Perth Bears.

Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medallist Lisa Barbelin has been appointed as an Athlete Role Model for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, joining a group of Olympians and international athletes selected to mentor and inspire young competitors at the event.

ABC and SBS refuse to adopt antisemitism definition used by royal commission

Public broadcasts won’t use International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition, which some claim conflates criticism of Israel with antisemitism

The ABC has chosen not to adopt the definition of antisemitism used by the royal commission into social cohesion and will use its internal editorial guidance on hate speech instead, in order to maintain its independence.

The royal commission on antisemitism and social cohesion announced in February that the inquiry would apply the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism.

The royal commission was established in the wake of December’s Bondi antisemitic terror attack, in which two gunmen opened fire on Jews attending a beachside Hanukah celebration, killing 15 people and injuring 40 others.

Definition of antisemitism is the starting point for getting rid of it

Both the ABC and SBS are to be commended for pushing back against Jillian Segal’s demand to adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of antisemitism (“ABC, SBS reject federal government, special envoy’s definition of antisemitism”, May 19). The core definition of antisemitism is undoubtedly accepted by the ABC, SBS and the broader community. However, accepting that criticism of Israel is antisemitic will undermine efforts to rid our society of this prejudice. The Executive Council of Australian Jewry should recognise this, rather than deride the pushback as ludicrous. People in my orbit do not support Israel’s destruction of Gaza or the advancement of West Bank settlements, yet simultaneously fiercely oppose racial hatred of Jews, which is the simple definition of antisemitism. For Segal to recommend that institutions such as the ABC and SBS have funds withheld just for protecting their journalistic integrity brings her capacity as special envoy to combat antisemitism into question. Proposed funding cuts to NDIS would disadvantage Australians with visual impairment, psychosocial disability and Downâs syndrome the most, according to government analysis, with the government hoping to slash those budgets by 50% by the end of 2027.

It also forecasts the cost of the NDIS will more than double in 10 years to $117bn, representing 2.4% of GDP, unless significant changes are made to the $50bn program.

Total disability spending to hit $100b despite NDIS cuts

The Albanese government will increase total spending on disability to $98 billion this year despite efforts to slow the runaway growth of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, as payments to support pensions for people who cannot work and to carers continue to rise.

While Labor has focused on ambitious targets to cut NDIS growth to achieve more than half of the projected federal budget savings over the next four years, other forms of disability aid will also make up a significant portion of government spending.
