22-0! Brewers tie franchise record run tally in rout of Mariners

MILWAUKEE – Jake Bauers scratched, clawed and crawled for the Brewers’ first run on Tuesday night. He smashed his shoulder in the process and dirtied his uniform. It was quintessential Brewers baseball.

And it was absolutely nothing like the rest of the night.

The Brewers matched their franchise record for runs scored in a 22-0 rout of the Mariners at American Family Field, scoring 21 of those runs over their final four, wild innings at-bat for a victory that pushed Milwaukee 30 games over .500 overall and 20 games over .500 at home.

It tied for the most lopsided shutout win in Major League Baseball since 1888, when the Philadelphia Quakers won a 24-0 game on the road. Two teams had won 22-0 games in the years since – Pittsburgh in 1975 and Cleveland in 2004.

Markets live updates: WiseTech shares plunge on ACCC raid, ASX falls for sixth day in a row

The competition watchdog has executed a search warrant on WiseTech Global, sending shares in the logistics software firm plunging.

The Australian share market has fallen for its sixth consecutive day, following another weak session on Wall Street.

Tech titan Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, is defending itself in US court against claims that it designed deliberatively addictive products aimed at children.

What’s at stake in this bellwether case? And what happens if Meta loses?

And financial intelligence agency AUSTRAC has made hundreds of referrals to authorities in connection with an investigation that has uncovered what the regulator is calling 'coordinated mortgage fraud.’

ACCC raids WiseTech Global, sending shares into steep descent

Officials from the competition regulator have raided the offices of WiseTech Global in a search for documents and electronic data to help assess whether the global logistics software giant breached consumer laws.

WiseTech told investors on Wednesday that a search warrant had been executed as part of an Australian Competition and Consumer Commission investigation, but did not provide details. Shares slumped 11 per cent after the announcement to $38.34 in afternoon trading.

Sydney Swans ban 5 players for rest of AFL season over hotel misconduct and a police investigation

SYDNEY (AP) — Five Australian rules footballers have been banned for the remainder of the AFL season by the Sydney Swans for breaching player codes of conduct during a stay at a Melbourne hotel that has led to a police investigation into allegations of sexual assault.

The Swans issued a statement Wednesday saying “Riley Bice, Nick Blakey, Isaac Heeney, James Jordon and Chad Warner will not be considered for selection for the remainder of the 2026 AFL Season,” ruling them out of a regular-season game this weekend and the playoffs series.

The Swans said the club-imposed sanctions were independent of an investigation by Victoria state police. No charges have been laid, and no player has been identified as being involved in an alleged sexual assault.

The AFL’s latest regrettable chapter was handled delicately in some areas, while others initially viewed it largely through a sporting lens

Sydney Swans chief executive Matthew Pavlich, coach Dean Cox and captain Callum Mills spoke to reporters in the 24 hours after police began investigating an alleged sexual assault at the Pullman Hotel on Monday.

None of the three said much – likely on legal advice – but none felt compelled to even share a thought about the woman or women whose experiences prompted them to go to police.

For a sport with an unsatisfactory record on rape and sexual violence, this week delivered another regrettable chapter.

Organisers of the Finley and Berrigan shows have, in the past few days, cancelled the poultry competitions at both upcoming events.

This is due to the uncertainty and as a precautionary step to protect poultry and exhibitors from the current outbreak of H5N1 (avian influenza).

The cancellation decision for the Finley Show, which takes place on September 6, was announced on Friday.

The cancellations came after a fifth case of H5 avian influenza (bird flu) was confirmed in NSW on Saturday, with more than 200 nationally.

Show organisers still have bird exhibits

Organisers of the annual Myrtleford Show say planning for the October event is going full steam ahead, including poultry and avian exhibits remaining a fixture, despite the slow spread of bird flu across parts of the country.

Myrtleford and District Agricultural and Pastoral Society Inc. have been in contact with the Department of Agriculture and have been notified there is currently no need to remove the poultry and the avian exhibits for this year's show, to be held Saturday 24 October at the Myrtleford Recreation Reserve.

2027 Hyundai Tucson revealed with bold, boxy design

The 'All-New' Hyundai Tucson has just been unveiled in Korea, and sports a radically overhauled design that claims to offer best-in-class practicality.

Hyundai Motor Company has revealed the new fifth-generation Tucson SUV, boasting the Korean brand's new 'Art of Steel' design language and latest in-car tech.

The 2027 Hyundai Tucson is a stark departure from the curvaceous current model, with a more upright body and angular detailing, as well as striking full-width LED lighting front and rear.

Measuring 4700mm long, 1905mm wide and 1685mm tall on a 2785mm wheelbase, the new Tucson is 60mm longer overall and 30mm in the wheelbase compared to the previous generation, while width has increased by 40mm.

Hyundai has thrown the covers off of its highly-anticipated next-generation Tucson in South Korea, although further local details on the key RAV4 rival are yet to be confirmed.

The new model adopts a more radical design language than the outgoing car, with new angular 'H-shape' light fittings similar to the incoming i30 Sedan, which was revealed several months ago. Both cars feature the brand's latest 'Art of Steel' design language.

The side profile shows a boxy and upright design, moving the Tucson more towards a resurgent off-road trend, with strongly contoured bodywork protruding over the rear wheels while the rear light fittings also consist of strip-style H-shape LEDs.

Olivia Dean at MSG: The 5 Best Moments From the Second of Her Four Sold-Out Shows

The English singer-songwriter proves she's at the peak of her powers.

“This album has completely changed my life” may sound like a familiar sentiment that any artist might share during a new album cycle, but for Olivia Dean and her second LP The Art of Loving, it’s practically an understatement.

Midway through her Saturday (Aug. 15) night show in New York City, the English singer-songwriter paused to reflect on a transformative period that saw her go from opening for Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet Tour, which rolled into Madison Square Garden in fall 2025, to selling out four nights as the headliner at the same venue just 10 months later. “That was my first time in an arena,” Dean shared of opening for Sab. “This is crazy. Now we’re doing our own four shows here.”

Olivia Dean Delivers Lessons in Love and One Hell of a Show at Madison Square Garden

There’s a word Olivia Dean consistently called to mind throughout her headlining performance at Madison Square Garden on Friday, Aug. 14 — present. The show was the first of four consecutive sold-out nights the British singer-songwriter has scheduled at the venue this weekend. She didn’t seem to be thinking too much about the other three, or really anything beyond that exact moment. Dean was astoundingly present.

It’s the most apt descriptor for the manner in which she commanded the room for nearly two full hours with a set spanning 24 songs. “I’m feeling emotional and grateful and so present with you this evening, New York,” Dean told the audience. It was early in the night and she just finished introducing the show with an opening run of “The Art of Loving,” “Nice to Each Other,” and “Lady Lady.” A brief encapsulation of how love lingers. A madly persuasive plea to live in the moment. A surrender to the inevitability of change. It was the exact order in which the songs appear on her acclaimed second album, The Art of Loving, which shares a title with the tour.

Former Adelaide Crows player Ricky Henderson is suing the AFL and Fox Sports for more than $1.2 million over a 2013 incident in which his genitals were aired on live television.

Fox Sports and the AFL say Mr Henderson ought to have been aware of the presence of the fixed camera and denied he was entitled to any damages.

Lawyer for rapist Ralph Carr urges court to halt case, likening it to that of last man hanged in Australia

A pre-sentence hearing has continued for disgraced agent Ralph Carr (centre), who was found guilty of raping a woman in 2023. (ABC News)

A lawyer for rapist celebrity agent Ralph Carr has asked the court to halt sentencing of his client, likening the case to that of the last man to be hanged in Australia.

Prosecutors described the application as an inappropriate attempt to attract media attention.

Prosecutors say the County Court should get on with sentencing rapist celebrity agent Ralph Carr, after his defence team made a rare legal move to halt the case.

Last month, a jury found Carr guilty of raping a woman at his West Melbourne home three years ago, an allegation he denied. A longstanding suppression order was also lifted, identifying Carr.

Entertainment industry and AFL figure Ralph Carr has “a hurdle to jump” if he is going to convince a Victorian judge that he should be granted a stay on his sentence for raping a former staffer, a Melbourne court has heard.

Carr, 66, appeared in the Victorian county court on Tuesday, where judge Frank Gucciardo is hearing submissions about the sentence he should receive.

Carr was last month convicted of two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault after a trial. He had pleaded not guilty to the offences, which were committed against his former employee in March 2023.
