The Syrian-born father of two helped disarm one of two gunmen during the Bondi terror attack, and on Sunday took part in the tributes made to the victims and those who risked their lives attending them.

Bondi attack hero al-Ahmed, responders honoured at Australia cricket match

Before the fifth Ashes Test, Australian and English cricket teams honour responders who rushed to the site of the shooting.

England and Australia’s cricket teams, as well as the crowd at the Sydney Cricket Ground, have honoured the emergency service personnel and members of the public who responded during a mass shooting at Bondi Beach in December.

Both teams formed an on-field guard of honour, and the spectators joined in with loud applause before the fifth Test match of the Ashes series, which got under way on Sunday.

The biggest cheer from the sold-out crowd was reserved for hero Ahmed al-Ahmed, who ran towards one of the attackers and wrestled the gun from him, walking out with his right arm in a sling.

The 'Pink Test' is an annual cricket tradition dedicated to raising awareness and funds for cancer treatment during the Sydney Test match in Australia.

The event pays tribute to Jane McGrath, the wife of former Australian cricketer, Glenn, who died in 2008 from breast cancer.

Jane was a prominent cancer support campaigner and established a foundation in 2005 to raise money to fund breast cancer care nurses in Australia.

Glenn is widely regarded as one of the best pace bowlers of all time. He took 563 wickets in 124 Tests for Australia and he was the most successful quick bowler in history when he retired in 2007.

Adelaide University has officially opened following a controversial $450m merger between the universities of Adelaide and South Australia, with staff arriving back on campus this morning.

The United Cup has its next quarter-finalist, and for the third time in the tournament’s four editions, Greece will advance to the knockout round. Stefanos Tsistipas’ and Maria Sakkari’s three-set victories secured the Group E tie against Great Britain ahead of the mixed doubles match at RAC Arena in Perth.

Notably, Sakkari’s 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 win over Emma Raducanu, was her first career victory against the Briton on the WTA Tour Driven by Mercedes-Benz. Sakkari is now 2-0 in singles to start the season, defeating Naomi Osaka on Jan. 2 in the win over Japan.

"Emma, I've had four tough losses against her so to get that first win against her, against a great opponent, it means a lot, especially delivering for Team Greece," Sakkari said on-court.

The upcoming Broadway revival of Arthur Miller's Pulitzer- and Tony-winning play Death of a Salesman has found additional casting, with the new roster to join previously announced stars Nathan Lane, Laurie Metcalf, Christopher Abbott, and Ben Ahlers when performances start March 6 at the Winter Garden Theatre. Opening night will be April 9, with Joe Mantello at the helm.

Lane will star as Willy Loman, with Metcalf as Linda Loman, Abbott as Biff Loman, and Ahlers as Happy Loman.

Newly revealed to be joining them are K. Todd Freeman as Charley, Jonathan Cake as Ben Loman, John Drea as Howard, Michael Benjamin Washington as Bernard, Tasha Lawrence as The Woman, and Jake Silbermann as Stanley, along with Joaquin Consuelos, Jake Termine, Karl Green, and Jack Falahee.

A Paris court has found 10 people guilty of cyberbullying France's first lady Brigitte Macron by spreading false online claims about her gender and sexuality, including allegations she was born a man.

The court on Monday convicted all defendants to sentences ranging from a cyberbullying awareness training to eight-month suspended prison sentences.

Naomi Osaka says she is battling an illness ahead of the Australian Open.

Osaka struggled in her 6-4, 6-2 loss to Maria Sakkari at the United Cup on Friday night.

The four-time major winner says she began feeling ill over the Christmas period.

Former world number one Naomi Osaka says she is not at full health following her straight-sets loss to Maria Sakkari at the United Cup.

Just over two weeks out from the Australian Open, Osaka was coughing at times during her 6-4, 6-2 defeat to world number 52 Sakkari in Perth on Friday night.

PERTH, Australia — Four-time Grand Slam singles champion Naomi Osaka is feeling under the weather at the United Cup.

After losing her first match for Japan against Greece's Maria Sakkari on Friday, Osaka said she got "really sick" over the holiday period and wasn't operating at 100% during the 6-4, 6-2 loss.

Osaka was coughing at times during the match and appeared to lack energy. She said she likely caught an illness from her 2-year-old daughter Shai.

"I have been dealing with some health stuff, so I'm kind of just happy to be out here right now," Osaka said. "It's not serious, but I'm not operating at the percent that I want to be operating at, which kind of sucks, because I had a really good offseason so I thought I was going to do really well here."

Great Britain fell to a bitter 2-0 loss in their decisive United Cup tie against Greece in the round-robin group stage as Emma Raducanu fought hard to overcome her injury-ravaged preparation for the new season before fading badly in her first match of the year, losing 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 against Maria Sakkari in her first match of the year.

Emma Raducanu withdrew from her match against Naomi Osaka as Great Britain started their United Cup campaign with a 2-1 group-stage win against Japan in Australia.

The British number one has not played since October and pulled out of two exhibition matches in the United States in December because of a minor foot issue.

Her withdrawal against Osaka in Perth comes in the lead up to the Australian Open, which begins in Melbourne on 18 January.

"I have to be honest, she was very close," GB team captain Tim Henman told Australian broadcaster Nine prior to the tie.

"It wasn't an easy decision. She had been building up and practising really well. But we just felt this morning it was a little bit too early."

Naomi Osaka survived a welcome test in her United Cup opener as Japan pushed Great Britain to the brink in Perth, where Emma Raducanu was a late scratching.

The two-time Australian Open champion beat Katie Swan 7-6 (7-4) 6-1 to level their tie at 1-1, before the Brits sealed the rubber in a match tiebreak.

Swan stepped in for Raducanu at late notice and pushed the four-time major winner for almost two hours, before Osaka delivered Japan their first United Cup point in their tournament debut.
