NAVI cannot ignore a Roster Change Anymore: A disastrous exit at EWC

Vitality and G2's favorite spots, the arena map, and special activities

For more than a year, NAVI have lived in an awkward space between being good enough to justify patience and inconsistent enough to make every bad tournament reopen the same conversation. The current lineup has won trophies, reached finals and shown that, on its best days, it can compete with almost anyone. It has also gone through stretches where the individual level disappears, the system looks laboured, and a team with NAVI’s expectations suddenly feels several steps removed from the elite.

The question of a roster change has followed this team almost from the moment makazze replaced jL in July 2025. Every time NAVI looked close to the end of the road, a result bought them more time. Budapest did it at the end of 2025. ESL Pro League and IEM Atlanta did it before the player break this year. Even after the Cologne Major, when B1ad3 explored the market, the right move never materialised. Now, after nearly two months away from officials, NAVI have been eliminated from the Esports World Cup by Legacy in one of their poorest series of the year.

Aleksib on NAVI exploring changes: "I'm old enough to understand that it's the name of the game"

Natus Vincere’s early exit at the Esports World Cup 2026 has resurfaced questions about the team’s off-season decisions. Over the summer, head coach Andrii “B1ad3” Horodenskyi revealed that the organization was exploring potential roster changes. Ultimately, no moves materialized, and NAVI committed to their existing squad for the second half of the 2026 CS2 season.

Following a devastating Round of 16 elimination by Legacy at the EWC, we asked in-game leader Aleksi “Aleksib” Virolainen if the lingering roster rumors had impacted the team’s cohesion. Rather than deflecting, the veteran captain offered a pragmatic perspective drawn from his extensive career.

Legacy eliminates Natus Vincere from Esports World Cup 2026

Brazilian CS2 squad knocks out one of the game's most storied organizations in a Round of 16 upset at the $2M tournament

Legacy just sent Natus Vincere packing from the Esports World Cup 2026, eliminating the Ukrainian CS2 powerhouse in a Round of 16 best-of-three series on August 20. For a team ranked around 12th in the world going up against one of competitive Counter-Strike’s most decorated rosters, Legacy played like they forgot they were supposed to be the underdogs.

The result marks one of the biggest upsets of the tournament so far, removing a NAVI squad that had looked sharp throughout the group stage. NAVI had already dispatched teams like Falcons and The MongolZ on their way to the playoffs, making their early exit all the more jarring for fans who had them penciled in for a deep run.
