Perth's seven-wicket win over Brisbane Heat has guaranteed the Scorchers a spot in this year's WBBL finals.

Perth's win also ensured that the Renegades would be unable to defend their title, and left Brisbane with the first winless season in the competition's history.

The winner of the Sydney Sixers-Adelaide Strikers game on Sunday will take the final spot in the top four.

Beth Mooney has led Perth back into the WBBL finals, executing the perfect chase against Brisbane and ending Melbourne Renegades's title defence in the process.

    UNCHANGED SQUAD FOR HEAT

The WBBL Brisbane Heat have named an unchanged squad of 13 for tomorrow’s final regular season match against the Perth Scorchers at the WACA.

Allrounders Chinelle Henry and Sianna Ginger were both cleared to play despite being hit in the helmet in the Heat’s 23-run loss to the Sydney Thunder at Drummoyne Oval on Wednesday night.

Teenage allrounder Lily Bassingthwaighte made her WBBL debut against the Thunder, the fifth first-gamer for Brisbane this season.

Local Replacement Player Catherine White and pace bowler Bonnie Berry would make their WBBL debuts if included in the starting team at the bat flip tomorrow.

Perth Scorchers 165 for 3 (Mooney 94*, Glenn 2-46) beat Brisbane Heat 164 for 7 (Redmayne 57, Mills 2-23) by seven wickets

Beth Mooney has led Perth Scorchers back into the WBBL finals, executing the perfect chase against Brisbane Heat and ending Melbourne Renegades' title defence in the process.

Needing 165 for victory in a must-win game at the WACA on Saturday, Mooney hit an unbeaten 94 from 61 to help Perth reach the target with seven wickets and four balls to spare. The victory ensured the Scorchers would have a home final, knocked the Renegades out of the top four and handed the Heat the first winless season in WBBL history.

Australia’s black type system under fire amid threat of international downgrade

The peak breeding body in the industry’s heartland of NSW has called on the Racing NSW (RNSW) board to “stand down” amidst concerns that Australia could be demoted from Part I of the international Blue Book.

Thoroughbred Breeders NSW president Hamish Esplin made the call as Australia’s black type situation – a suite of NSW races given domestic upgrades that the Asian Racing Federation (ARF) has not recognised under the international pattern – continues to be at an impasse.

It comes as the ARF has also stated races including Randwick’s Sydney Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) and The Metropolitan (Gr 1, 2400m), and Perth’s Railway Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) were eligible to be downgraded, based on ratings data.

Pattern’s last chance looms as Racing Australia board meets

A Racing Australia board meeting on Friday looms as a possible last chance to remedy Australia’s Pattern protocols and guidelines and head off action from the Asian Pattern Committee.

Racing Australia potentially faces its last chance to remedy its Pattern protocols and guidelines at a board meeting on Friday otherwise the country’s thoroughbred industry risks having the pivotal black-type process taken out of its own hands.

The Asian Racing Federation had given Racing Australia a mid-November deadline to respond to a list of concerns it holds about a series of black-type races and why a process used to demote and upgrade Listed and Group races was not in place.

Iwo Baraniewski vs. Ibo Aslan provides 90 seconds of mayhem at UFC 323

MMA Junkie has live coverage of UFC 323 with round-by-round analysis of every fight.

If you have 89 seconds, Iwo Baraniewski vs. Ibo Aslan is well worth your time.

They weren't there for a long time, but fight fans sure had a good one when the two light heavyweight sluggers stepped into the cage Saturday at UFC 323 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and delivered absolute chaos before Baraniewski (7-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) finished Aslan (14-4 MMA 1-3 UFC) for good at 1:29 of Round 1.

Baraniewski was first to drop Aslan, who immediately returned the favor moments later. Aslan swarmed by Baraniewski dropped him again. Aslan grabbed hold of a leg and worked his way back to the feet, and stunned Baraniewski again. Baraniewski then dropped Aslan, and that was it.

Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen bogeyed the ninth, and dropped back down to Smith and Si Woo Kim at 13-under.

Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen slept on a two-shot lead at -14, but with three players poised at -12, another at -11, and a trio lurking at -10, the Australian Open is perfectly primed for a big sandbelt finish.

Rory McIlroy sits at -5 and all but out of the running for the title, but the biggest name in the field still remains a major drawcard.

Follow along to our live coverage of day two of the second Ashes test here.

Australia dodged a bullet for their painfully slow over rate on day one of the Gabba Test – avoiding potential ICC penalties only by dismissing England so early on day two.

But Steve Smith’s side was still slammed by some of cricket’s greats after, at one stage late on day one, Australia took 18 minutes to bowl just three overs as fields were changed, helmets taken on and off and conferences held with bowlers.

‘Don’t think it was acceptable’: Great calls out Smith after ‘ridiculous’ Gabba scenes

Australia’s sluggish over-rate came back to bite them on day one of the pink-ball Ashes Test at the Gabba as the hosts narrowly avoided a significant penalty on Friday morning.

Only 74 overs were bowled on the opening day of the second Test against England in Brisbane as Australia’s all-pace attack toiled with the pink Kookaburra, falling short of the required 90 overs. No spinners were used on Thursday, with Australia controversially sidelining veteran tweaker Nathan Lyon for the day-night contest.

It was the least number of overs bowled in a full day’s play in Test history on Australian soil.

Axed Australia opener Sam Konstas found form, scoring a confidence-boosting century for New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield.

Enduring a difficult period after his incredible Test debut last Boxing Day, the 20-year-old reached three figures just before tea on day one of NSW's match against Queensland at the SCG on Friday.

It was his fourth first-class ton, and his first in the Shield since making twin centuries against South Australia in October 2024, before forcing his way into Australia's XI.

Konstas and fellow former Australia batter Kurtis Patterson helped NSW motor to the tea break at 221 for 1 after Konstas' opening partner, Matthew Gilkes, was dismissed for 55 by Gurinder Sandhu.
