    Dozens of service stations across Australia have run out of petrol as distributors struggle to keep up with customers panic-buying as the conflict in the Middle East continues to disrupt prices.

    The NRMA has warned regulators “missed” the chance to stop price hikes, as booming wholesale demand pushes fuel prices to a “permanent high” on the east coast.

    The New South Wales government said 32 out of 3,000 service stations in the state were out of at least one fuel type on Monday morning – but enough to leave single-station towns short.

    Fuel reserve released as farmers warn of food price hit

    Farmers have warned Australians will face higher food prices even after the federal government began releasing 760 million litres of petrol and diesel from its domestic reserves to boost regional supplies.

    As Australia heads into the third week of skyrocketing petrol prices from the war in the Middle East and state governments hold emergency meetings, Energy Minister Chris Bowen has authorised fuel companies to start drawing up to six days’ worth of supply from national reserves.

    After an urgent roundtable on Monday that followed Queensland and Victoria meetings, the NSW government threatened to use emergency powers to direct supply if the fuel industry did not prioritise areas that were running short, and it told petrol stations to declare online if they exhaust their tanks.

    Saul Chavez Duran of Maysville, Ga., took a chance on a $50 scratch-off and won an $8 million top prize.

    Chavez Duran works in North Carolina and bought his lucky $8 Million Money Maker ticket from D-Mart on N.C. 16 North in Denver.

    When Chavez Duran arrived at lottery headquarters Friday to collect his winnings, he had a decision to make. He could choose to receive his prize as an annuity of $400,000 a year over 20 years or a lump sum of $4.8 million. He chose the lump sum of $4.8 million and, after state and federal tax withholdings, took home $3,456,494.

    The $8 Million Money Maker game debuted in December 2024 with five top prizes of $8 million and 10 prizes of $100,000. Two $8 million prizes and four $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.

    DENVER, N.C. (WBTV) – A Georgia man won $8 million on a lottery ticket he bought at a Lincoln County gas station last week.

    Saul Chavez, who works in North Carolina, purchased a $50 Money Maker scratch-off at the D-Mart on Highway 16 in Denver.

    He hit the game’s top prize and claimed his winnings at lottery headquarters on Friday, March 13. When he collected his prize, he chose between an annuity of $400,000 a year for 20 years or a lump sum of $4.8 million.

    It took 10 years for Ballarat singer Harry Lamb to go from pub gigs to the national stage on Australian Idol, where he has just made the top 12.

    With the top 12 now revealed, the 11th season of the music competition is entering the live performance phase, where audience votes will decide who stays and who goes.

    The 27-year-old has been busy preparing songs for the next few rounds in a bid to surprise the audience.

    Australian Idol contestant Charlie Moon was in disbelief after receiving a ticket that landed him straight into the Top 12 of the competition as the soulful singer’s dream edges closer.

    The 31-year-old Fremantle creative performed a Beatles hit, and his incredible rendition of With a Little Help from My Friends received a ‘fast pass’ from judge Marcia Hines.

    Each judge has one fast pass to use on any contestant that blows them away and sends the Idol hopeful into the live shows as the next stage of the competition begins.

    Moon, who’s Idol audition was inspired by the loss of his late mother to brain cancer in 2023, said he was in “complete disbelief” after learning he landed a spot in the Top 12.

    Top 12 perform blockbuster anthems as AUSTRALIAN IDOL goes live

    After weeks of auditions, theatre rounds and showdowns that saw the Top 12 locked in last week, the competition now moves into its most unpredictable phase as Australia finally gets the power to vote and decide who stays in the race.

    Kicking things off is movie week, with the finalists taking on iconic songs from Hollywood blockbusters including The Lion King, Pretty Woman, The Devil Wears Prada, Top Gun, Deadpool and Frozen.

    Across three big nights, the Top 12 will perform some of cinema’s most recognisable anthems as they fight to impress both the judges and viewers watching at home.

    Does the world need another biography of Rupert Murdoch? It depends what it has to say and who has written it.

    Bonfire of the Murdochs, by journalist Gabriel Sherman, looks promising. He made his name with an exhaustively researched biography of long-running Fox News head and serial sexual harasser, Roger Ailes. The Loudest Voice in the Room (2014) has 98 pages of endnotes and a team of three fact-checkers. It was made into a series starring Russell Crowe as Ailes. Sherman was also the screenwriter of Donald Trump biopic, The Apprentice, which Trump fought hard to prevent being screened.

    Dynasty: The Murdochs review – who cares which billionaire will control even more billions?

    This Netflix’s documentary about Rupert’s warring children blurs the lines with HBO drama Succession. But, ultimately, it’s a depressing catalogue of nepotism that it’s hard to be enthused about

    ‘To explain the Murdochs, you have to understand the television show Succession.” So quips New York Times writer Jim Rutenberg a few minutes into this four-part documentary about Rupert Murdoch’s empire – and, specifically, his children’s battle for control of it when he dies.

    It’s a canny opener. Jesse Armstrong’s series about media mogul Logan Roy and his warring children, thought to be based on the Murdochs, was a gripping smash hit, and this documentary is soon excitedly matching the eldest Murdoch siblings – independent Prudence from Rupert’s first marriage, dutiful favourite Lachlan, “problem child” James and brilliant but overlooked (pesky X chromosomes!) Elisabeth – to their Succession counterparts. (Rupert’s two younger daughters from his third marriage aren’t in the running.) But don’t be fooled: despite the suspenseful strings and off-key piano motifs, this is no Emmy-award-winning drama. Rather, it is an exhausting if exhaustive rundown of all things Murdoch, with the siblings’ manoeuvrings often the least interesting part. In the documentary, as in life, they are overshadowed by their dad.
