Disgraced former union boss John Setka faces fresh criminal charges over allegations he issued a Christmas Day threat to an official from the Albanese government-backed administration that seized control of the CFMEU in 2024.

Police arrested the 61-year-old in Footscray on Wednesday morning, and he will face court over the charges in early June.

Setka has also been charged by Victoria Police’s Taskforce Hawk, which is investigating allegations of criminal behaviour linked to the construction industry, for allegedly committing offences while on bail.

Separately, Setka has been questioned over domestic abuse allegations after taking a car, which he says he owns, from a shopping centre car park.

Atletico Madrid confirmed as possible UCL opponent for Liverpool

Atletico Madrid have now been confirmed as the first of Liverpool's two possible opponents in the Champions League last 16.

The Spanish side completed a 7-4 aggregate victory over Club Brugge on Tuesday evening to advance from the knockout play-off round.

The Reds' other potential rival in the Round of 16 will emerge from the tie between Juventus and Galatasaray on Wednesday night.

Galatasaray hold a 5-2 advantage over Juve after the first leg in Istanbul last week.

The draw for the last 16 will take place from 11am GMT on Friday (February 27) and confirm Liverpool's opposition.

Who can Newcastle play in Champions League Round of 16? Possible opponents, route to final for Magpies

Newcastle United ran out 6-1 winners in the first leg of their Champions League knockout playoff tie with Qarabag.

The question heading into Tuesday's return at St James' Park was whether Eddie Howe's side might trouble the all-time record win for a two-legged tie in the competition proper.

A 3-2 win on the night meant the record books were not troubled, but attention had long turned towards who Newcastle might face in the Round of 16.

Atalanta faces Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of their playoff tie. Dortmund holds a 2-0 advantage heading into the away fixture, so they are the favourites to go through. Bayer Leverkusen have already confirmed their place in the Round of 16.

Western Power: 563 work laptops worth $1 million stolen over two and half years

More than a million dollars worth of computers belonging to Western Power have been stolen or lost in just two and half years, it has been revealed.

From July 2023 to December last year the agency responsible for the state’s electricity network lost or had stolen 563 computers, laptops and tablets — the equivalent of one for every five employees — raising questions about its ability to manage the security of taxpayer funded electronic equipment.

“If this is the standard at which we’re operating it’s a wonder the government gets by at all,” Shadow Energy Minister Steve Thomas said.

In the same period 198 Western Power-owned mobile phones were reported lost or stolen, costing taxpayers $143,000.

Brigades stretched 'babysitting' pole-top fires for Western Power

Regional shires and volunteer firefighters are frustrated over the time spent monitoring pole-top fires. (Supplied: Evan Lawrence)

The Gingin shire president says volunteer firefighters are frustrated about the amount of time spent monitoring pole-top fires waiting for Western Power to confirm isolation.

Emergency services are unable to extinguish a pole-top fire until a Western Power worker can travel to the site and confirm power isolation.

WA Local Government Association president Karen Chappel says Western Power and regional councils need to work together to find a better solution.

Regional shires in Western Australia say Western Power's slow response time to pole-top fires is stretching local resources and putting stress on already fatigued volunteer firefighters.

Inside Kate Hudson's Big Blended Family

Kate Hudson grew up in a blended family, raised by mom Goldie Hawn and the actress' longtime partner Kurt Russell, and so the 2026 Oscar nominee's life has unfolded with her own three children.

As a mom of three, Kate Hudson has had her work cut out for her.

"Raising kids is not an easy thing to do," she told the Sunday Times in 2022 of life with sons Ryder, 22 (with ex-husband Chris Robinson), Bingham, 14 (with ex Matt Bellamy), and daughter Rani Rose, 7 (with fiancé Danny Fujikawa). "You try to raise them well and hope they make good, solid decisions. My parents are really focused on how they raised us. Family was their priority and we always knew that."

Kate Hudson shares rare appreciation for estranged dad Bill Hudson

Kate Hudson may not be close to her biological father, Bill Hudson, but she is thankful for his surname.

The Oscar-nominated actress shared some rare appreciation for her dad while discussing growing up as the daughter of Hollywood elite, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, whom she and her brother, Oliver Hudson, refer to as their "Pa."

Kate revealed that Goldie and Kurt were "adamant" about not giving her handouts and encouraging her to find her own way, a lesson she "really took to heart."

"I'm being really honest with you, I grew up in L.A., where I saw kids coast by with parents who gave them everything," Kate said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. "And I had the opposite parents.

Kate Hudson reveals 'very strict' rule she was raised under

Kate Hudson has revealed the "very strict" rule she was raised under. The Almost Famous star's celebrity parents were less indulgent than fans may imagine, Kate told Josh Horowitz, host of the Happy Sad Confused podcast. "I'm being really honest with you, I grew up in LA where I saw kids coast by with parents who gave them everything," Kate, 46, recalled. "And I had the opposite parents." Kate, who was raised by her mother, comedian Goldie Hawn, 80, and stepfather Kurt Russell, 74, acknowledged she and her brother Oliver Hudson, 49, grew up with wealth but insisted they were not handed the extreme indulgences she saw many of her school friends receive. "We were clearly privileged kids," the How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days star continued. "But I do think that my parents were so adamant about how none of it belonged to us, that we didn't earn it, that in order to get a life (comparable to the one) we were living, we had to earn it ourselves, that that would never be available to us unless we had the same kind of work ethic." Kate, who shares her surname with her biological father, musician Bill Hudson, explained this value system left her committed to making her own way in Hollywood. "I was like, 'No, I will never rely on my parents,'" she said. "And that was my big thing, like, 'I will never take a job because of them. I don't want anybody knowing they're my parents' … When I first started, I was so happy my last name was Hudson".

'Doesn't the case have to fail?': Judge interrupts closing statement in Coles trial

Coles is being questioned by the ACCC over its "Down Down" promotion, and whether the prices were misleading. (Supplied)

The judge overseeing a bombshell federal court case has made a stunning intervention as the consumer watchdog makes closing arguments.

The ACCC has been outlining why it believes Coles broke the law by misleading shoppers with fake discounts on hundreds of items.

During the week-long trial the consumer watchdog alleged the supermarket giant jacked up prices briefly before dropping them to a higher-than-original price under the "Down Down" promotion.

But this morning Justice Michael O'Bryan interrupted the ACCC's legal counsel Garry Rich a short time into his address.

‘Doesn’t the commission’s case have to fail?’ ACCC faces critical questions in Coles case

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s case that Coles misled customers with its “Down Down” promotions has faced a wall of critical questioning, with the judge hearing the case interrogating whether it has failed to prove its central allegation.

On Wednesday, Justice Michael O’Bryan probed the commission’s claims that customers had been duped into thinking prices marked as “Down Down” represented a good deal, and were being offered for less than what the associated items were selling for weeks earlier.

The judge said the commission had not formally argued the tickets conveyed those meanings as part of its case, or proved them to be misleading. “If they are the two primary representations communicated by the [pricing] ticket … doesn’t the commission’s case have to fail?” O’Bryan asked.

ACCC argues Coles’ ‘Down Down’ actually meant ‘up, down, prices are up’

Coles never intended to sell products at new higher prices after receiving requests from suppliers and did so only as a tactic to push through smaller increases advertised as a discount, the competition regulator alleges.

Garry Rich, SC, representing the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, said the supermarket giant adopted this tactic because it knew its “Down Down” promotion was more profitable and led to more sales than offering the product at the same price but advertising a discount.

By now, you’ve binged your way through Bridgerton seasons one to three, probably more than once. However, fear not, for season 4 is on the way—and the powers at Netflix are drip feeding us exciting tidbits about the show’s return, from the cast to the juicy plot. We now know that season four will centre around Benedict Bridgerton, the second eldest Bridgerton sibling and bohemian bachelor of the Ton. His love interestm Sophie Baek is to be portrayed by Yerin Ha, who hails from Sydney.

The first TikTok on Yerin Ha's recently launched account features the Australian actor in period garb dancing to a meme sound. It has 49 million views.

The 28-year-old has been steadily building a name for herself in local productions like The Survivors and international fare like Dune: Prophecy for almost a decade.

But nothing could have prepared her for the frenzy of becoming the newest paramour in Netflix's beloved regency fantasy Bridgerton.

"It's insane. Those numbers [on TikTok] are so big you don't quite grasp the actual reality of it," Ha says.

Yerin Ha didn’t change for Bridgerton, the show changed for her

When Yerin Ha walked onto the set of Bridgerton for the first time, she felt like she had “climbed through a TV”.

“It’s a world I had watched for years,” says Ha, who plays maid Sophie Baek in season four of the wildly popular Regency-era drama. “It felt so bizarre and surreal, but it just shows you how much work goes into preparing this detail, from the ceilings to the colours and everything. It just made it more realistic and easier for me to be able to focus on the scenes.”

The 28-year-old Australian-Korean actor, who grew up on Sydney’s north shore, is in the middle of eating breakfast during a hectic trip back to Australia for the AACTA awards. It’s a brief respite from a whirlwind few weeks, where she was unveiled – quite literally, her character first appears wearing a mask at a ball – as the new love interest of Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson).

Bill Gates 'took responsibility' over Epstein ties in staff meeting, foundation says

Bill Gates "took responsibility for his actions" and addressed his links to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during a meeting with staff from his charitable foundation, the organisation said.

"Bill spoke candidly, addressing several questions in detail," the Gates Foundation said in a statement.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Gates apologised to staff, said he had two affairs with Russian women which Epstein later found out about, and in relation to the late financier said: "I did nothing illicit. I saw nothing illicit."

Gates has come under renewed scrutiny over his relationship with Epstein following the release of files by the US Department of Justice in January.

ICC cracks down on Pakistan star with big punishment amid T20 World Cup 2026

New troubles are knocking at the door for Pakistan, as amid the T20 World Cup qualification scenario not going their way, one of the key batters has been subjected to punishment for breaching the ICC code of conduct.

The Pakistan Cricket Board is anyway going through a rough patch, after their Men's team made an awful start to their Super-8 campaign in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup. They qualified for the Super-8 stage after having defeated the Netherlands, USA and Namibia, but have not won against any of the major forces.

Pakistan's group-stage defeat came against rivals India. They had lost the game by a humiliating margin of 61 runs, and then, coming into the Super-8, they lost the match to England in their second game. The first game against New Zealand was abandoned without a single ball being bowled.

They squeezed us a lot, I think we lost three wickets on 84 which is never ideal. The longer we could take it, myself and Cole [McConchie] were thinking we would try to get to 140, which kind of set it up for the last two or three overs.
