Corporate Travel Management will continue to pay its departing chief executive Jamie Pherous for six months despite growing anger among shareholders that the travel services giant has failed to correct accounting errors that have seen its stock unable to trade for five months.

Corporate Travel chairman Ewen Crouch said the board had decided it was “time to accelerate the transition to a refreshed corporate structure that consistently meets the expectations of its stakeholders”, appointing chief commercial officer Ana Pedersen to replace Pherous.

A man accused of posting an anti-Semitic social media message in support of the Bondi massacre has been slapped with fresh weapons charges.

Martin Thomas Glynn is accused of posting on social media in the hours following the December 14 terror attack at Bondi Beach, where two gunmen opened fire on a crowd of Jewish faithful celebrating Hanukkah, killing 15 people.

The RBA’s inflation fight finds Hail Mary in soaring Australian dollar

The soaring Australian dollar is acting a natural brake on inflation, with bond investors arguing that the Reserve Bank of Australia should consider how much the appreciating currency will affect economic growth.

The dollar’s leap to a three-year high to just under US71¢ last week is providing a vital pressure valve for the economy, they say, automatically lowering the cost of imported essentials and doing some of the heavy lifting usually reserved for the central bank and its interest rate decisions.

Live: ASX and Aussie dollar up ahead of expected rate hike

The Reserve Bank has hiked the cash rate 0.25 percentage points to 3.85 per cent, in its first rate rise in more than two years.

The Australian dollar has rallied on the rate hike, while the ASX 200 has come off its highs but remains positive.

We'll bring you the latest on what's happening on the markets throughout the day in our live blog.

Betashares chief economist David Bassanese has issued a note with his take on today.

"The Reserve Bank has today bared its teeth by re-asserting its determination to bring down inflation," he says.

His reading is the RBA board "judges that solid demand in the face of limited spare economic capacity is also playing an important role" to push up inflation.

The Australian sharemarket rose on Tuesday, but finished softly after the Reserve Bank of Australia delivered its first interest rate hike since 2023 – the first by a major economy this cycle.

The S&P/ASX 200 Index rose 78.5 points, or 0.9 per cent, to 8,870.60, with 10 of 11 sectors in positive territory, rebounding from Monday’s 90-point loss. The RBA’s 25-basis-point riseto 3.85 per cent briefly cooled the rally, which had peaked at 8,896.60 and was shaping up to be the index’s biggest gain since November. The unanimous decision pushed the dollar up 0.8 per cent to US70.09c.

The Australian sharemarket has given up some of its earlier gains after the Reserve Bank raised official interest rates for the first time since 2023, saying inflation would remain outside its target band.

The S&P/ASX 200 was up 0.8 per cent or 73.4 points at 3.25 pm, after trading 1.2 per cent higher earlier in the day. All sectors were in the green except for utilities, with miners and technology the strongest performing sectors.

The Reserve Bank raised interest rates by 0.25 percentage points to 3.85 per cent, in a move that prompted a small retreat in the ASX200 and also sent the Australian dollar above US70¢ shortly after the decision.

Clippers, James Harden exploring trade, sources say

You have reached ESPN's Australian edition. Stay on current site or go to US version.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — The LA Clippers and guard James Harden are working through whether the sides can find a deal by Thursday's NBA trade deadline, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania on Monday.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are one of the teams expressing serious interest in Harden, sources told Charania.

The 36-year-old Harden has veto power over any trade because he's technically only under contract for this season. The second year of the two-year, $81.5 million deal he agreed to this past offseason is a player option, which isn't fully guaranteed.

Clippers, Cavs Reportedly Discussing Harden/Garland Trade

The Clippers and Cavaliers have had advanced talks about a blockbuster trade that would send James Harden to Cleveland and Darius Garland to Los Angeles, sources tell Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated.

Harden, a 6’5″ guard, missed his second straight game on Monday due to personal reasons. Head coach Tyronn Lue said the former league MVP was at his home in Phoenix, but he didn’t elaborate further (Twitter link via Joey Linn).

Kelly Iko of Yahoo Sports also hears the Cavaliers are trying to acquire Harden, citing league sources who say Cleveland has been interested in the 36-year-old since December, when L.A. was off to a miserable start.

Mannix reports that the Cavaliers could trade Darius Garland to the Los Angeles Clippers for James Harden.

Garland is making $39.4 million this season, while Harden is making 39.2 million. The 2018 MVP with the Houston Rockets has a player option worth $42.3 million for next season.

Harden and the Clippers are working through whether the sides can find a deal by Thursday's NBA trade deadline, according to NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN. Harden has been with the Clippers since 2023.

Meanwhile, Garland has spent his entire NBA career with the Cavaliers. He was the fifth overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Steam, Epic face 90% access restrictions under Turkish platform regulations

Türkiye's Family and Social Services Ministry has drafted legislation that could impose severe access restrictions on major digital gaming platforms including Steam and Epic Games, potentially blocking 90% of user traffic if companies fail to establish local representation in the country.

The proposed law, currently under review by ministry officials and relevant parliamentary committees, would require gaming platforms exceeding a certain daily user threshold to open official offices in Türkiye and designate local representatives, according to details published Thursday by Turkish technology news outlet.

Platforms that refuse to comply would face bandwidth throttling of up to 90% imposed by Türkiye's Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), effectively rendering the services unusable. At such reduced speeds, downloading a modern 100-gigabyte game could take months, making the penalty equivalent to a complete ban.

Türkiye launches digital platform to guide parents on screen time | Daily Sabah

The Ministry of Family and Social Services has launched a digital platform aimed at protecting children from online risks and guiding parents on healthy screen use, recommending strict daily screen time limits for young children.

According to guidance published on the “Children Are Safe” digital platform, daily screen time should not exceed 30 minutes for 3-year-olds, 40 minutes for 4-year-olds, 50 minutes for 5-year-olds, and 60 minutes for 6-year-olds. The recommendations cover all screen-based activities, including videos, digital games and television.

The ministry said the platform was developed to raise awareness among parents and the wider public about the risks children may face in digital environments and the measures that can be taken to reduce those risks.
