122-year-old yacht built in UK brewery chasing win as it races Brisbane to Gladstone

The Maritimo Katwinchar is looking to make history as the oldest boat to compete in the race at 122 years old.

Favourable weather conditions mean the first boats could come into Gladstone early Saturday morning.

The skipper of a yacht built in a London brewery 122 years ago is chasing glory as he launches into what could be the boat's final race before entering a museum.

The Maritimo Katwinchar is among 29 taking part in the 78th annual Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race today, with a race briefing starting at Moreton Bay from 10am.

The fleet is confirmed for the 78th Gladstone Ports Corporation Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race, set to start tomorrow on Good Friday, 3 April 2026.

The 308 nautical mile offshore passage from Brisbane to Gladstone remains one of the most respected challenges in Australian sailing, drawing experienced offshore crews as well as emerging teams stepping up to test themselves along the Queensland coast.

This year’s fleet includes Rolex Sydney to Hobart veterans Wild Thing 100, Maritimo Katwincher, a beautifully restored 120 year old vessel, and V5 from New Zealand. It is a strong line up that should deliver plenty of action and great vision at the start.

SALT LAKE CITY — — Evan Mobley and Donovan Mitchell each scored 34 points and the Cleveland Cavaliers used a late fourth-quarter surge to beat the Utah Jazz 122-113 on Monday night.

Mobley set a season-high for points, including eight dunks, and also had 16 rebounds and three blocks. The 7-footer capped the decisive 14-1 run with a three-point play that made it 117-106 with 3:14 remaining.

James Harden had 13 points and 14 assists for the Cavaliers, who have won five straight road games and six of their last seven overall.

Cody Williams scored 26 points, Kyle Filipowski had 20 and Ace Bailey added 19 for Utah. The Jazz have lost six straight and 10 of their last 11.

DENVER — — Nikola Jokic had 31 points and 12 rebounds in his first game in a month, Tim Hardaway Jr. added 22 points and the Denver Nuggets knocked off the Los Angeles Clippers 122-109 on Friday night.

Jokic, the three-time NBA MVP, missed 16 games after injuring his left knee in the first half of a Dec. 29 loss at Miami. The Nuggets went 10-6 during that stretch, which also included extended absences from starters Cameron Johnson and Christian Braun.

Jokic’s 29th double-double of the season came despite being on a minutes restriction imposed by coach David Adelman. The 30-year-old Serbian was limited to 25 minutes, his second-fewest in a game this season.

Denver superstar Nikola Jokic returned from a 16-game injury absence to post a 31-point, 12-rebound double-double on Friday and propel the Nuggets to a 122-109 NBA victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Three-time NBA Most Valuable Player Jokic had not played since suffering a bone bruise in the left knee he hyperextended in a game against Miami on December 29.
